Bitcoin was designed as an anonymous and decentralized currency. But transactions are never truly anonymous, as they are recorded and available on the Blockchain — the distributed ledger which keeps a record of every Bitcoin transaction.

When you use Bitcoin to pay for goods and services, you need to provide your name and address to the seller for delivery purposes. This means that a third party can trace your transactions and find ID information. This is the reason why there are such services as Bitcoin mixer, for example, which allows you to exchange your Bitcoins for different ones which cannot be associated with the original owner.

Martin Albert, Bitalo Owner, explains to CoinTelegraph:

“You cannot overcome the general principles of the Bitcoin network, that means in the end you can only make it very complicated to track individual coins, but still you can track every coin back to the block where the coin was mined.”

And you? What do you think about mixer?

Mixers have their place and serve their purpose, but bitcoin was never designed to be anonymous. You can put your money to services that do not require your information or only minimal. When you buy milk in the store, do they ask for your address? Would you buy milk at a store that does? So why is it ok to give out your address when buying digital goods?

Yes bitcoin is not true anonymous so we can use crypto mixing services for keep be anonymous, it is like [banned mixer] who has low fees and low minimal transaction only 0.001 BTC . You can mix 0.001BTC it is secure, save and fast.

I have never used a mixer as of yet but I have been thinking of using it in the future if I need to keep my Bitcoin transactions anonymous.   Most of the services I use do not store much personal information about me.

I think providing the address that is mentioned in the article is for delivery purposes. If you buy purely digital goods I don't see any reason the provide your physical address. But when you buy physical goods online using bitcoin, the goods somehow need to arrive at your home.

Unless you use a PO box or something, you will always need to provide personal details when buying this type of stuff.

I am happy that we have such a thing as a mixing service. All coins that I withdraw from exchanges that will be sent to my cold wallets, will go through bitmixer first before ending up in my cold wallet. I don't want an exchange to follow me and hand over information to governments and such.

That is true, when you need goods delivered you have to provide an address. It must not be a personal one though. Can be a company one, a PO box like you said or even a local store can work sometimes. Breaking connections between digital and physical identities is not easy and requires work, but with a little creativity it can work.

I think bitcoin is more often used for digital goods and I had several occasions where I was asked to provide a full address for those (e.g. gift cards). One time they even wanted to verify my (obviously fake) address. I asked for a refund in bitcoin and somehow a verification was no longer needed (I assume they never held any bitcoin). Its usually the last time I use a service like that. At least according to german law a company should only store the information that are needed(!) for a deal. My address is not needed when I pay with bitcoin for a gift card worth a reasonable amount.

Ive never used bitmixer but im more than aware of its capabilitys. but i would say if you are looking to use your cryptocurrencys for something that you wish to have more or complete anonymity then your best bet is probably to use an atrenative coin that supports higher anonymity. I wont bother offering an example since im sure thats a debate in itself. For me though i dont really need the extra anonymity , Should i need to for any reason i wouldnt hesitate to use a mixer since they are their to serve that purpose.

I think people only use mixers if
    1. They're paranoid
    2. They've committed a crime and don't want any link to the stolen coins.

Bitcoin wasn't designed to be anonymous, just like what the others here on this thread are saying.

Hmmmm ,, to date I have not tried using a mixer but I have thought to use them in the future .
If I have to keep my bitcoin anonymous , because most of the services that I use do not store personal information about me .

You are wrong. In the whitepaper of bitcoin it can be clearly read "bitcoin is electronic cash system". Cash means anonymity. So in any case, bitcoin needs to become way more anonymous to stay true to the definition of what cash is, we must push for an agenda that is pro-anonymity to strengthen bitcoin. Once governments start tracking everything you will wish that bitcoin is more anonymous.

having mixing services is always a good thing in bitcoin, because apart from anonymity that everybody is talking about , there is another concept that is important to a lot of people and that is privacy.
it is so important to keep one's privacy when online, especially when you are using something like bitcoin where every random person on the internet can have access to this public data called blockchain and see what you are up to and you can even be targeted if your privacy is compromised.

well did you read the part with the poisoned milk? also let us say the manufacturer discovered a flaw in his car where suddenly the breaks don't work anymore.

It seems the verification request was to protect themselves if the gift card is stollen. But then it doesnt make much sence as you cant return digital goods and the cost to sue you for a theft is not worth it. Plus it is easier to stole it from torrent sites than use stolen gift card. So I see no reason why they requested verification, maybe its just their routine.

To stay anonymous with Bitcoin requires a lot of thinking when to use the mixer. But it is better than using one wallet for many years, as then everybody can check your habbits in the last few years with a bit of effort. No effort required if you just use one address - crazy people and services using one Bitcoin address only.

I would not trust a mixer site with my identity what so ever.
Their business is in hiding ones traces from others knowing where your bitcoin transfer are coming from and frow. So what do you think they would be doing with your personal i.d?
Makes not much sense to me to trust them at all. >:(

Well so far mixers serves its purose for me since Im using an exchange to convert my coins to fiat and that exchange doesnt want coins coming from gambling sites so instead of creating another wallet and send it there before it reaches the exchange site I would rather send my coins to mixers and so far no problem yet.

However I noticed that the address that mixers use are fresh or new with no transaction, so for tgose who are tracking someone its  kinda like a give away tgat the coins was sent to an address created by a mixer.

As shorena says it is not needed for everything to ask us to provide ID/selfie with ID and lots of other verification procedures which are needed mostly for lifting the limit for debit cards or using exchanges.
I like the idea of bitcoin mixers because sometimes it is needed to use these, but I hate when it is used by hackers which hide their identity in this way mostly.

A problem no one talks about much concerning mixing services is it is suspected that the largest volume clients on popular mixers are drug dealers tumbling their coins. In effect drug dealers are exchanging their coins for coins that were deposited by other dealers.

So if you are using a popular mixing service to mix gambling proceeds you may get coins sent back to you that trace back to a darknet drug market. That might raise a red flag at a service like Coinbase.

You might consider using a more private way of mixing your coins using Monero (https://bitcoinnewsmagazine.com/how-to-use-monero-to-anonymize-bitcoin/).

bitcoin mixers are a good thing for bitcoin and it always helps improve the anonymity of bitcoin that a lot of people around here are concerned with. but i think you also have to be careful when using the mixer itself because like anything else they can not be what they seem to be. they may even be keeping logs on you and what you mix so you will only pay some fee without really improving anything.

so better choice a reputable mixer and be careful about what you do.

Bitcoin was designed as an anonymous and decentralized currency. Because more and more companies are opening every year makes the bitcoin not anonymous anymore because the bitcoin will be transferred from one exchange/company to another one.

they have been using credit cards, and money (fiat) laundering for ages and still do.

Yes. Its bad for your privacy and for the privacy of everyone you trade with.

Exchanges are no wallets and with "blockchain" you probably mean "blockchain.info". These two are completly different things.

However I noticed that the address that mixers use are fresh or new with no transaction, so for those who are tracking someone its  kinda like a give away that the coins was sent to an address created by a mixer.
There's nothing wrong with that. Anyone can have a transaction that is sent from an address with no transactions at all. Perhaps someone who just purchased Bitcoin from somewhere? Even if one knows that a someone is using a mixer, there is nothing that they could do to find out the origin. Given that the mixer doesn't keep logs and mixes it well.

Mixers aren't foolproof. They can always keep logs even though they promise not to. The best way is to just use several of the mixers and hope that the information won't be leaked.

I have never used a mixer as of yet but I have been thinking of using it in the future if I need to keep my Bitcoin transactions anonymous.   Most of the services I use do not store much personal information about me.

same here. I've also never mixed my bitcoin because I think I don't have problems that require need to be totally anymous so far.

probably only those who want to share their bitcoin anymously or those who have got their bitcoin in wrong way.

Just like it is said, the coins can be traced back to the original block.
But that does not mean you can put an Id to the owner of the coin.
If you send your coins from one wallet to another, I think that it is already after this one transaction hard to prove who the owner is (as long as no ip address is recorded).

If you're worrying about bitcoin's pseudonymous feature, mixers are good to use to completely erase your tracks as you would be having coins from different sources.

Mixers have their purpose like to hide where your coins are from so you can ensure your privacy.

I think the best use case for a mixer is when you are sending coins that you don't want traced to you. So you send to a mixer and then the mixer sends somewhere else. Done.

It gets more complicated if you want to receive coins from a mixer--as has been stated already you may be getting coins that are more tainted than you may want.

People should that bitcoin is pseudonymous, not anonymous. They must be very careful when use bitcoin to keep their anonymity.

That's true that bitcoin mixer service can help keep your anonymity, but what if they keep your transaction or turned to be scam?
For normal people, i think one-time address should be good enough.
If you use a trusted mixer, the chances that the mixer turns into a scam is small but still there.
Personally, I only use one wallet, and it works perfectly fine. I just use Bitcoin normally, and I only occasionally use mixing when it's absolutely necessary.

The largest mixers have been running for years, and there's a low chance one will suddenly close at the exact time someone decides to mix his coins through it. There is more profit to be made from running a mixer for a year than suddenly closing and scamming whoever was mixing their coins through it for a duration of six Bitcoin confirmations.

Using smaller mixers is risky because there's less profits from them for the owners.

sometimes being paranoid is not a bad thing, especially when your hard earned money is involved. you can send your bitcoins to the mixer in a couple of batches instead of all at once, this way you reduce the risk of what he mentioned, also the fees are percentage of what you send so it doesn't matter.
also this way it can add to your anonymity because you will receive them out on the other side with bigger intervals.

If you use fake identity documents to register a Post Box, and pay someone off the street to collect the content for you, and drop it in a pre-arranged pickup zone, then you would still be able to bypass all that identity tracking. So the system is flawed, not Bitcoin.

You can just use mixers to hide your bigger stash or your main account, but it will not be impossible with the correct legal documents, to trace it back to it's source. ^hmmmmm^

this last part is only true if the mixing service that you are using is keeping logs so the government can trace you through the legal channels. but mixers like bitmixer are not keeping any longs at all, and all the records will be removed immediately.

What logs are kept?
Absolutely no logs or personally identifying information are kept regarding your use of the Bitmixer service. All logs are permanently removed from both our website database and from our Bitcoin wallet after your coins have been transferred out of our reserve. All forwarding entries are removed after 24 hours.

although like any other service it is up to you to decide how much they are keeping their word and destroying the logs.

I have never used any small mixers. Actually, I have never used any mixer other than bitmixer since it is the only one I truly trust even though the fees are kinda high. But it is low enough that it does not really affect the amount of coins that I mix virtually.

That's the problem nowadays, many hackers are using these mixer services which enables them to scam and get a way with crimes.
I hope the community will come to a consensus on how to deal with these kind of cases.

I don't know how the community can make a consensus and 'track' these people mixing the bitcoins.
Bitcoin was designed as an anonymous and decentralized currency. Because more and more companies are opening every year makes the bitcoin not anonymous anymore because the bitcoin will be transferred from one exchange/company to another one.

that problem will always exist and there is nothing anybody can do about it, and you should know that it is not bitcoin, hackers and all the bad guys will always use anything for their own bad purposes.
they have been using credit cards, and money (fiat) laundering for ages and still do.

Unfortunately that's true, but I have read somewhere that exchanges does not accept or does not process these dirty coins but still there are way for these to mix and spend these bitcoins and they probably don't care about the bitcoin mixer fees.
