Title: Should we have mining subcategories?
Post by: Lightspeed on June 12, 2011, 11:14:08 AM
Consider:

At the rate of current influx of people & now stickied threads that are taking up the top half of the page and the fact that it gives preference to the largest pools; Should we have a few Sub-categories

ie:

Mining Pools
Getting Started
Mining Software/Miners
Profitability and Speculation
Mining Hardware

+ what other brilliant ideas the community comes up with

cheers

Best idea I've read so far today!  but I've only been on 30 minutes this morning.

It would definitely make reading the mining section a lot easier than it is in its current state.  Sometimes I go in looking for specific information and have to wade through a lot of seemingly junk posts to actually find it.

I just noticed "Whitelisted" under your name; what is this?

That means you not have to make 50 Posts in the Newbie Area cause you are whitelisted. ;)

Longer answer for those who don't know:

In response to the spam posts yesterday from new accounts a Newbie Forum was created and that is the only place "new" (under 50 posts) accounts can post to start.  There's a sticky in it for requesting to be white listed.  I had been on the forums here for about 10 days, hadn't been trolling, had made a transaction and was listed under trusted traders... so I guess that's enough to be white listed (requested it last night and had it this morning).

So far the troll posts seem to be much fewer in number today.

I'd prefer to have a subforum for pools so that the 5 largest pools aren't all stickied (worsening the large pool problem), and instead all the pools regardless of size are easily visible.

I think two subcategories would be a start. One for hardware and software and one for "business talk" like pools and such. I think the main category would be enough to hold the rest.

And maybe we could add one more for those who want prove how Tycho and Slush will take over the world...  ::)
