Title: Mining hardware
Post by: kellendil on August 02, 2016, 12:41:35 AM
hi,

İ want to build a 6 GPU rig with  with a 2011-3 Socket. İ have these MB s as options http://www.akakce.com/anakart.html/36011 and here http://www.novabilgisayar.com/Anakart.asp?ANAKART-SOCKET=LGA-2011

Most of the time they have  4x PCIe 3.0 x16  and  2 x PCIe 2.0 x1 slots.

So for the PCIe 3.0 x16 slots,  i just need x16 to x16 risers something like this ? (  These are just extension cables, am i right? So actually i could put 2 GPU s on the mainboard and two risers to extend the other 2 GPU ? )

http://tr.aliexpress.com/item/PCI-E-Extender-Extension-Cable-Express-16X-TO-16X-Riser-Card-Extender-power-supply-cable-for/32630201958.html?isOrigTitle=true

And for the PCIe 2.0 x1 slots this ?

http://tr.aliexpress.com/item/USB-3-0-PCI-E-Express-1x-to16x-Extender-Riser-Board-Card-Adapter-WIth-SATA15Pin-4Pin/32632788266.html?isOrigTitle=true

İ dont know which mainboard to buy could you help me guys ? And did i link the right risers for the slots ?

( http://www.novabilgisayar.com/bilgi.asp?ID=11166 this mb has 7  PCIe 3.0 x16 so basically i could use  x16 to x16 risers for all slots ? )

Thank you in advance :)

2011-3 is a waste of money for mining rigs.

I didn't look at your links, but make sure your risers are powered as unpowered ones can cause your MOBO to catch fire.

Also, if I am not mistaken, which I might be, I don't believe that you can run more than 6 GPU's on a machine.  Like I said, don't quote me on that, but the 7 PCI slots would be a waste I believe.

İ want to use the 2011-3 socket for something else thats why i want to have it.

But i think there arent any 16x to 16x powered riser ? Only for the 1x to 16x if im not mistaken...

This whole thing is so confusing :)

windows nope ;/
windows WILL NOT recognize more than 6 GPU's. fail ;p

linux on the other hand... i have heard users having up to 32 GPU's running on a linux machine with "EthOS"  ;D  (ubuntu 14.04)

edit ;   to be more helpful i would direct you to a GPU mining community slack https://mineum.slack.com

it CAN be very confusing ;/

There are definitely powered risers for 16x to 16x risers.  Should be fairly easy to find.  Here is a website that seems to be good gpushack.com.

Ok, that was where I was thinking it was from. Can't run more than 6 GPU's on windows.  Did not know that about Linux though.  I remember seeing an attempt at a huge backplane to run a bunch of GPU's, but I am pretty sure that they never got it going.

ooo yes i would also recommend gpushack they have some dece stuff, great range for what you wanna spend ;)

it's a shame farms like genesis weren't as transparent as they claim, would be interesting to know how the "big boys" are running their gpu farms.
(all headless and remote access i assume)
