Title: Donation help: which organization shall I fund?
Post by: Karartma1 on August 03, 2016, 06:47:00 PM
Hi everybody,
please help me to decide which organization to fund with 0.197 BTC that I had via last month sig ad.
All betcoin.ag signature campaign participants have been told by a member of this forum that keeping the sig ad would have brought to a negative feedback. We should put our money where our mouth is, if you ask me.
So here am I asking you to help me share funds received from betcoin.

Quote
http://seansoutpost.com   Pensacola Homeless Outreach…fueled by Bitcoin.

thewaterproject.com
The Water Project is unlocking human potential by providing sustainable water projects to communities in sub-Saharan Africa who suffer needlessly from a lack of access to clean water and proper sanitation. Access to water unlocks potential. It removes obstacles that hinder a community from growing itself out of poverty.

www.songsoflove.org
The Songs of Love Foundation is a national nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that creates free personalized original songs to uplift children and teens currently facing tough medical physical or emotional challenges. Each CD is professionally produced with lyrics containing the child's name and references to all of his or her favorite activities things people and pets. Songs are written and performed in any language in the musical style that the child likes best by a variety of talented professionals.

Watsi.org
Watsi is a global crowdfunding platform for healthcare that enables anyone to donate as little as $5 to directly fund life-changing medical care for people in need. 100% of every donation funds medical care and we are dedicated to complete transparency.

TunaPanda
Tunapanda Institute does digital era vocational skill training in low-income parts of East Africa. The organization focuses on skills like web design computer programming and video editing that can help people earn an income improve their communities and engage in meaningful self-expression. They deploy computer networks using open source software and free (libre) educational video content.

Please vote the one you really want to see funded.

I am going to post TX ID when poll ends and I release funds.

Thank you

From the list above I don't have any information about those so I haven't voted.
If you are going to donate then I would say that It is a good way to help people here who got scammed by users here like me trying to help others and this happened when I tried to give a loan without any interest/collateral and got scammed. (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1471789.0)
Thanks.

Send me a PM when you do, if you send the funds to a published donation address -- I'll match your donation to which ever one you pick

I did not want to make votes visible so that everybody would vote by having an idea of what they were voting for.
So I opened up the results.

Since now everybody can see votes, i would personally like to fund Sean's outpost especially after this news

http://www.pnj.com/story/news/local/2016/04/03/seans-outpost-homeless-shelter-threatened-city/82389850/

As you can see no one gives a shit about this thread, it's way more cool to post one's address to get 1000 BTC giveway.

So sad.

Hi man, thanks for your message. I solved the poll thing.

However, sorry to say but, being scammed is something that happens to those who are looking for easy money.

My money will go to the people who are at the edge of a difficult life. This is what donations are for  :)

It is undoubtedly amazing idea to support those in need. But I have very unpleasant experiences with bitcoin powered donations.
When I see bitcoin + charity in once sentence I can't shake thought that it is scam - because I've seen so many charity startups and project created to take advantage of gullible people.

I am not familiar with these organizations you want support. But you have to be absolutely sure that your money will be used to fuel a good cause.

You shouldn't blame them for being human.  Greed and self interest are innate to us all. Be careful though, a lot of bitcoin charities are scams too. Do your due diligence, and if you find a worthy cause, pm me. I will  donate 100mbtc.

However,  as much as I admire your gesture, donate your coins only because you want to and not because of someone else's moral compass. You earned them honestly.

I hope I've selected 5 good projects.
We cane never be 100% sure of what we fund but in the end it's always good to start doing something.

I don't think all charities that accept bitcoin are scam. Can you provide me some examples?

My plan was to fund Sean's Outpost from the beginning, after doing some research I landed here

my suggestion is convert to fiat currency with good exchange site and donate the amount to the trusted people you know. instead of sending to unknown person best is to donate it to the person whom you know very well.  it is an nice thinking to donate  it to the people who are in difficulties  :).

Thewaterproject looks to me as the most reliable one. By the way, there are also funds that help elderly people who need help and have no home, for example. They are often underfinanced. Check it out if interested.

As you guys can see someone (or a group of people, organization etc we don't know) donated 38BTC to the Water Project which was on the list I provided some time ago.

I am happy to see there's a real flow of BTC towards these organizations.
Much happy ;)

Really admirable. I am now getting into all the threads to know what is happening. Really very happy to see that many are donating their btc to  organizations, home for aged, water project and so on. Want to be a part of it. Work hard and earn btc first. Will be in touch with this thread always and provide as much as i can.

Yep, I heard about that donation too. It was featured as article on bitcoin.com's news page.
I still believe that it was single act of kindness and we won't see much of anymore soon.

Why? Because:

1. People are donating mainly to feel better and show off how amazing they are - with silent and relatively anonymous bitcoin donation no one will know about this.
2. There is a problem with credibility of pretty much every charity - I have problem with their money management, plus  bitcoin powered charity could turn out to be scam even more easily.

the electronic frontier foundation isn't getting any love? they're doing a very important job trying to keep things open. there are one hell of a lot of people who want to take your internet freedoms away. there ain't too many people out there who are there to defend it. the eff is one of the few.

There will be some coins for them as well don't worry: it's just a matter of time. I donated fiat money to the EFF long ago when I discovered the HTTPS everywhere plugin which improved my "surfing" experience.

Maybe we need a good thread where all these organization gather to explain how they use funds, what they do etc.

That'll be a good step forward.

Maybe some people here will find it odd and they will ask why doing that when so much people need help but my suggestion is to donate to abandoned, molested or endangered animals. You don't have to donate to some organization that you will find on.the Internet and maybe you will not be sure how they will use the money. I'm sure that in your community exists some animal shelter or animal care organization that you can donate to. You will do something good and feel good.

Waterproject is the best for funding. Help for people in Africa is important because, otherwise this continent is very poor.  ;D

lol man why would you go all that way to donate while people here near you could use a lift in spirit just by receiving $10.
Or better yet do you know anything about your neighbor, whether or not they might need some help maybe some cash?
Because they are the priority after your parents of course.

If someone can post links to all the deposit addresses for these charities, I'll put up a multifund page for it on bitcoinstarter.  Each pledge would then fund all the charities in one go for other people using whatever coin they want.

Sean's Outpost. I find that they do a great service to the community, even though I don't get to see their work firsthand, being in Australia.

Hi,

I'm new to the bitcoin community and thought it would be a great way to fund our non-profit organization, Adaam Project. We aim to educate and provide necessary hygiene tools to the youth of Armenia since gum disease is an issue through out rural areas of the country. We believe that empowering the young is the best way to propagate preventative health habits for future generations. We want to expand our operations to other countries but need your help to do so. We are looking to raise about 300 bitcoin to be able to make this a full-time organization and be able to supply the necessary tools (Toothbrushes, Toothpaste, Mouthwash, & Floss) to the young in other countries. Most of us are currently dental students and young professionals who started this organization.
The highest Donor will be able to choose the country of their choice to start the next step of our journey. We have only done this in Armenia but are aware of the struggle through out the world. We will also make a video with kids giving a thank you to the people who are generous enough to contribute to the cause. We will also have a dedicated page on our website of donor names to show our gratitude.

I will prefer for a direct donation to the needy people. If you will donate your money directly to the needy people then you will be more satisfied with your donation and those people will love you more. I often donate some money to needy people and I do not donate them to any organization but direct to the needy people but I am not in a position to donate that much which you are donating now.

And try to start donating your nearest people i.e take the start from your neighbor as morally they are the most worthier for the donation from you.

I wish to support the needy as well. Will focus on earning more and reach out to the needy ones at least around my surroundings. I have already decided to celebrate my son's first birthday with blind children who are taken care by a trust. I am sure that would teach my baby a lot. Will try to continue on his every birthday. Wil be happy to see the children being happy for the moment. I am sure all would love it.

I don't donate anything.  I just don't want it too. I don't trust anyone that they will use the money as they say you do. I can not stop someone from donating but I don't see why I should.
