Post by: ThePokerTranslator on August 06, 2016, 12:29:37 AM
Hello, what does Electrum 2FA accomplish? If say a malware were able to exploit my computer and electrum software, does 2FA do anything?

Most bitcoin malware replaces the destination address, and some are keyloggers to steal your passphrase. I do not think 2 FA will give you absolute protection in that case. If you like Electrum I think the safest way to use it is with Trezor to sign transactions, and always double check to make sure the address has not been replaced. If you use Electrum with Trezor 2 FA is not really needed.

2FA can help you a lot but know that electrum is very difficult to hack. It has a proven record of 0 hacks so far in its history. That should say a lot. My advice to you would be to install electrum on a clean PC and safeguard your seed like the most precious thing to you. Add a very strong password with at least 13 characters including non alpha numeric characters and you should be safe. Even if your computer gets compromised after that the hacker cannot do anything as they need the seed in order to use this software from their computer. Pretty much electrum is a very safe wallet and 2FA makes it even more safe. You can read more in the electrum webpage regarding multisig wallet to help you better.
