Title: Ghetto GPU heat exhaust
Post by: Cryptozillah on August 06, 2016, 11:49:31 PM
I have been running these RX 480s for some days now.
It is late summer here and hot as hell, the upper floor where i am hosting this rig at the moment have been horrible hot.

So today i went to a store and picked up a fan and some hosing to make a simple beta version of something that i have been thinking about for some time.
This is working REALLY good, i am now dumping most of the heat outside the window.

The rig is only standing there temporarly and will be moved to another location where i lead the hot air straight upwards and then trough a vent. Next step is try to make the collector in some other not caught fire easy material. All my frames are stackable so i might build a bigger one later on.

GPU temps are pretty much the same but the temp in the house is alot lower.
I have the GPU fans running on auto so they dropped a bit rpm:s after this mod.

Man!

That's super inconvenient but yeah, I bet it works  :D

I liked especially how this setup is mildly storm-resistant... not like some "farm owner" post I read some time ago  ;D

That's a really nice frame mate!
Did you build it yourself or bought it ready made?
I'd really appreciate some links or materials list.

I just built my first one out of wood, it works but it's ain't pretty and a bit too bulky:

Yeah it look like crap right now but it was a fast beta build :)
I will move this setup to its final hosting place later this week and everything will be more like i planned this.
This is just a test and it is working really good !

The plan is to stack three frames on top and build a bigger collector for blowing the heat out the ventilation.

Thanks :)
I have around ten of these frames. I bought them from a guy here on Bitcointalk some years ago.
I hosted my early Darkcoin miners in these frames. Now this is the third time i reuse them for mining operations.
Originally the frames are built for five GPU:s and one PSU. But if the PSU are layed down it can host six cards, pretty neat.
All frames are stackable too, i will post another pic when i have the miners setup at their new location.

Really liked your idea, I guess you're getting 140-150MH/s? that's pretty neat. good job dude.

What mobo you use?
Also if you don't mind please share a link where you bought your USB risers.. I keep getting shitty ones that don't work at all.

With some help today the rig is now running like this:

It is pulling 990w from the wall now and i am really pleased with that :)

I only use Asrock H81 Pro BTC mobos in my rigs, really great boards that never fails.
I bought my USB risers several years ago, some of them i bought here: https://www.hashratestore.com/shop/cables/usb-pcie-riser-powered-molex-60-cm/
I have around 100 risers laying around and none have failed yet. I think thoose ones are in better quality then the ones from ebay.

I was expecting much closer to 140MH/s, really nice dude, that's like, 1.2+ ETH a day? damn.
Makes me ashamed of my dual Fury X system haha, I can only pull 60MH with it  ;)

Regarding to Coinwarz i should get 1.27 ETH daily but that changes really fast with the difficulty.
On stock clocks the rig is doing 148Mhs @ 920w.
The Fyry X cards are pretty sweet too :)

Yeah its ghetto but it works.

Only problem is that its only good for reference type cards because the air is directed one way. If you have those open air aftermarket cards like ASUS or Sapphire then it won't work because some air would go up, down, left, right and the entire rig would have to be in a enclosed box.

Yes thats true, to be honest i prefer cards blowing hot air like this and not making a mess of it in all directions.

you can re-direct it in another way with a big ass fan behind it, it should work

Yes, interested in your specs to get them to 27 MHs
