Also, for anyone who is wondering, we are aware of the crowd-funded bitcoin documentary and consider our film to be the other "first" bitcoin documentary.  We have been in communication with Johannes and his team for the past few weeks and we are keeping the door open for possible collaboration between the two projects.  These are fast times in the bitcoin world and we are looking forward to bringing our stories to the community!

Hey everyone!

We've just launched our official website http://www.TheRiseandRiseofBitcoin.com and wanted to release it here first!  We will be updating the blog areas throughout the process of filming, and will be posting video updates on the site as well.  We are premiering our trailer at the Bitcoin 2013: The Future of Payments conference next month, and will update the site with that video as soon as we get back from San Jose.  Stay tuned!

The film has really taken on a life of it's own and has grown quite a bit during the filming process.  We added a donations tab to the site so that anyone in community who might want to help support the final stages of the film would be able to contribute and be a part of making the film.  Thank you all for your continued support.  We can't wait to show you the finished film!

I see those casascius private keys were just for the video shot, not for actual funding, right?

Correct, those were not real private keys, just an old/void sheet he used to show us how they are cut out.  You can see that they only have 22 characters, a length that was only used in the original series 1 coins.  

looks like a real exciting flick. it should really help spread the bitcoin story to the curious. can't wait to see it.

I spoke with someone at the GigaOm conference that was also doing a documentary -- but I think he's a ways back of yours. His main argument was that the profit motive was going to kill Bitcoin as an alternative currency -- essentially for profits will mainstream it inside the existing system.

This is absurd. This is anything but a documentary. It's an impressive piece of propaganda, but to be a documentary it needs to be more than "These bitcoins are the solution to everything and they will fellate you in your sleep"

I don't think you understand what a documentary is.  Documentaries are SUPPOSED to have sided on something and have an opinion.

Thank you all so much for the kind words.  We have been working hard for over a year on the documentary and are excited to be on the home stretch.  We really appreciate all of your support and are looking forward to showing you the final film.

Since we are still in production, we released this as a working trailer to be premiered at Bitcoin 2013.  It doesn't dive into the deeper story-lines, character arcs, dramatic elements, or political and economical debates that we will be covering in the film.  Once we have our final trailer(s) out, you will see much more of that.  We'll be posting more content as time progresses, so keep an eye out!

This is not necessarily a true.  a GOOD documentary will still provide opposing arguments - and come to a balanced point of view after considering both supporting and contrary arguments

this doc still looks good though. impossible to tell from the trailer whether it touches on potential problems/disadvantages with bitcoin.

Yes, we are a small independent team that believe in the future of Bitcoin.  So do a lot of other people, and the number is growing in leaps and bounds.  Bitcoin has so many stories around the world and so much content you could make 1000 documentaries and slant them however you like.  Feel free to make your own and cater to whatever audience you like.  I don't think 99% of the population would give a damn about watching "impartial discourse on the future of cryptocurrencies" if they don't even know what one is.  They might start to care if they watch an entertaining movie about Bitcoin and see a portrayal of characters that have dedicated their time and money to supporting the idea of a decentralized open-source currency and helping it grow.  That is what the film is about.

I don't see why you would bother going through so much trouble to over-analyze and nay-say a working trailer that is meant to build interest in the film.  We aren't even finished FILMING yet!

I would pay to watch from Rise and Rise of Bitcoin website, but it's not available.
