Hello, Bitcoiners!

I have premade VMware images with Ubuntu Server and the Bitcoin daemon uploaded to 4shared! You actually might need this VM because

A) you can run multiple nodes on one computer with lots of hard disk space;
B) by copying a VM with a fully downloaded blockchain to run on your computer, you are copying the blockchain itself the easy way,
and C) you can use these VMs on lots and lots of servers.

All you have to do enter "bitcoin" for the username, "node" for the password, and "bitcoind -daemon" to get it running!

How do we know that you did not install any malware that would allow you to steal our bitcoin? This is highly suspicious.

I did not install any malware, unlike what your antivirus told you. And as far as I'm concerned, I have no knowledge on how to install malware in the first place. Also, as of right now, I dont know why, but my computer's uploading it very slowly as it is not finished uploading.

The point is that other people do not know what you did with those images and whether you messed with them and installed malware. All people can do is trust you to not have done anything malicious with it and given that you are only a newbie with no trust, I highly doubt that anyone is going to trust you to not have messed with the images.

There is money at stake here, I highly advise everyone to not download these images.

Ok, I see what you mean. If you wish, I highly recommend testing the VM to verify it.

Why even mention that, the one asking the question didn't mention this... So you're saying that an antivirus would find malware on those images?
Maybe it's not what you meant to say, but it just comes across as suspicious.

I haven't been able to test out the image to verify if it's "clean" or not, but OP, if you're serious about distributing these images you could consider starting bitcoin-d automatically on boot with a cron command or with init.d.

I think a better alternative to distributing images would be distributing a .sh file that automatically installs bitcoin-d, and updates/upgrades the OS in the process as well. It's easier to verify that a .sh file is clean than it is with an entire disk image.

I saw some thread somewhere today, where Linux are being targeted by hackers to turn people's computers into mining machines. This is obviously some Alt coin, because the Bitcoin difficulty will render zero profit from this, even if they had a whole army of these machines.

People will also second guess images like this, because there are too many places to hide malicious code. ^hmmmm^

I don't think turning computers into mining machines is the biggest issue here, it's a far greater threat if it has some kind of keylogger or other kind of malware that would give access to the wallets being used.

I would mind, if my computers resources are being hogged by mining software and I did not know that. The electricity wasted has to be paid by someone and the hardware might even be damaged, if

these guys pushed it too hard. I kinda agree with that guy, because I hate slow computers and paying for something I did not benefit from. I use a Trezor and paper wallets for cold storage, so

malware and keyloggers are not my main concern, because I never access anything from my main computer... I use another device for Bitcoin payments.  ;)
