Title: SAFE Network Alpha Release!
Post by: davidpbrown on August 12, 2016, 03:35:42 PM
SAFE Network Alpha Release! (https://safenetforum.org/t/safe-network-alpha-release/10687)

TechCruch: After a decade of R&D, MaidSafe’s decentralized network opens for alpha testing (https://techcrunch.com/2016/08/12/after-a-decade-of-rd-maidsafes-decentralized-network-opens-for-alpha-testing/)
> Not many startups have spent a decade fine-tuning their tech platform prior to launch. But not many startups are trying to radically rethink the structure of the Internet.
...
> The aim for the alpha is to see how the network operates, garner feedback and grow its community of developers — to fuel the necessary app ecosystem to drive adoption of the real-deal down the line (an API is slated as launching this week).
> MaidSafe’s ambition for the Safe network, as it will be called (aka ‘Secure Access For Everyone’), is for it to be useable by as wide a user-base as possible

by the way.. don't mistake SAFE for an altcoin!

In case you're behind this curve, consider this: Data chains: what? why? how? (https://safenetforum.org/t/data-chains-what-why-how/10358)

but it is an altcoin.... Otherwise, why would you post in altcoin announcements?

The point of considering what SAFE is now as Alpha, is consider what is will become.. and that is beyond altcoin.

So, MaidSafeCoin (MAID) is an altcoin at the moment but that's just until SAFE Network is beyond Beta, then there will be a 1:1 conversion to Safecoin within the network.

The point about Data chains, is a larger one.. but that's for later.

Check the maidsafe website, it's very real. Lots of trade action going on after the announcement.

I'm not official, it's just one project that has been walking the walk and I rather like it. I don't expect the official will pass this way for a while yet and prefer media that goes beyond the cryptocurrency crowd. It's got some way to go yet to beta and full network but what it promises by way of providing a route to true privacy; security; and freedom, is something rather new. Given it's on the back of ~10yr+ research, I'm liking the progress so far. Seeing a distributed network invulnerable to attack and ensuring data integrity, are tough problems but it looks good for what it is atm. Coupled with the prospect of better solution from data chains for storing blockchain like data; and then scripts that potentially can out perform Ethereum.. well too much to hope for all in one project but even a little of that will be a powerful change for the better..

You provide resources to the network and you'll get safecoin in return.

So, it's more about hosting data and providing bandwidth than mining. That will likely be one of the big strengths, that it doesn't burn energy just to do math but all the effort is usefully applied to supporting the network's performance. If you provide a strong node=vault, the network will prefer you over others - the detail being hammered out in the alpha testing. Also the data storage removes duplicate encrypted fragments in a way that storage will be cheaper than the sum of the files it stores, giving advantage to those supporting the network.

Getting data from the network is for free.

General public have an option to buy safecoin to pay for putting their data to the network or provide resources ahead of the spend. It's meant to be simple enough that most nodes will benefit but naturally strong node/farmers likely will have an advantage in the return they see. Ideal then for droplets, if you know how to run many of those, you'll have an advantage.

That's fair but consider this is older that bitcoin.. 10yrs+ in the making, so should progress rapidly from here.
