Post by: Gutembergin on August 12, 2016, 07:56:41 PM
If anyone has the time, please post step by step instructions on how to accomplish setting up a mining rig, how it works exactly and how I receive my coins from it. Its very hard to find instructions for dummies on this subject matter.  :-\

To be honest, mining bitcoins is not appropriate for a newbie.

There is already a few solid and good guides out there.

http://www.coindesk.com/information/how-bitcoin-mining-works/
https://www.bitcoinmining.com/

Do also check out http://www.coindesk.com/information/ for more detailed information on Bitcoin.

Mining is not really profitable nowadays unless you have huge capital or the electricity fees at your place is really cheap.

Have fun mining - if you're serious! :).

Im a newb too but wouldn't the general concept be the same as mining alt coins? Why discourage?  ???

If you want to venture in something, you have to ignore the discouraging words you hear from people.

At the moment, mining ETC/ETH makes more profit - unless you have cheap electricity costs: less than $0.10/Kwh.

The concept is basically the same. The implementation is different. Mining an alt coin with a GPU is achievable. Mining bitcoins with an ASIC is a big step up from that.

I would prefer that someone's first experience not be trying to mine bitcoins and wasting time and money. There are lots of things going on in Bitcoin. Do some research. For example, did you know that you can buy stuff on Amazon at a big discount using Purse.io?
