so new thread below:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1600815.msg16080661#msg16080661

Well the bad news last jump was 7.67% and we are at an all time high of 217.3 diff.  also coins dropped from around 600 to 560 last time period all in all bad.

Now the good news I had ended prize money due to my prize funds being sucked up be the bitfinex hack.
Well  between bitfinex refund and donations to the fund from generous people I will be able to start back prize money.

$25 a jump until  first  jump after Oct 1.  If all goes well I will slowly increase prize amounts jump after jump.

Difficulty History

Date...........   Difficulty...........   ..Change.....   Hash Rate

Aug 15 2016   217,375,482,757   7.67%   1,556,034,316 GH/s

 So  a >>>>>     New game.

PICKS BEGIN AT 1116

First rule is I decide all rules since it is a free chance to get some coin.
Second rule is you need to be  a forum member since April 15th of 2016
Third rule is you need to have made 30 posts.  I will read them and decide if you appear to be real.
Fourth rule is if I think you are double dipping your picks won't be allowed
Fifth rule is we open picks at 1116 and end picks at 716   just about 2.5 days to pick.
Sixth rule is  this is for fun so I tend to allow off topic and don't delete very much.
Seventh rule is your pick should look like  -1.2 = philipma1957 or   +1.2 = philipma1957
Eight rule is  if you pick a used pick I will assign a pick to you and you are stuck with the one I assign.
Ninth rule no pick changes
Tenth rule no pre picks via pm's
Eleven rule no late picks.

Anything I missed above feel free to mention.

I self mod due to seriouscoin
I always pick -1.2 due to seriouscoin

So new game 25 usd paid in btc

Thanks for your continued generosity, Phil, and your work at running this fun contest.

The btc world is starting to look more and more like it's going to be 10PH+ farms only, and all the small guys will be pushed out due to high operating costs, high network difficulty, and a sluggish btc value.

If ETH STANDS fast. We may all end up mining it or a replacement GPU coin.

ASIC lock on btc. Is killing it.

Gpu mining uses real pc's real warranties.

You can get a deal here and there I just purchased parts on sale.

3 rx 470s for 550 usd . A mobo for 110 usd a CPU for 50 usd. A m2 ssd for 55  a psu 750 watt titanium for 140

Soft ware and ram for 95. A case for a hundred and this is a total of 1 k for 66mh uses fourhundred watts

And a 3 or more year warranty on all the gear.  Pretty good

 I like that  ;D ;D

It will be interesting to see what will happen to the 900ph in s-7 + avalon 6  it is almost all under water.

at 6 cent power the s-7 generation goes red at a diff of  337
at  7 cent power the s-7 gen    ----- goes red at a diff of  297
at  8 cent power the s-7 gen  ------- goes red at a diff of  253

a new price drop to 500 would really hurt that generation

I have a good power deal and I may buy another s-9 tonight.

but even with the cheap power in the solar array i am not sitting that good.

Keep hoping to see some raise in value but seem's small drops were pattern, but that is better then a big drop.   And all news considered could have been far worse.  Last period I got really into 3D printing really neat new hobby so forum activity went down hard to say how many hour's I have already put into it.  Has been a good new hobby though.

The difficulty jump was higher then I like, which is under 5 is my goal.   I am wondering if big sales are going on with S7's from bitmain to low electricity companies.  They are not focusing on S9 sales to public so   I wonder on those if internal upgrades.   Likely we will never know as they are very good at keeping internal secret's. Either way will be a interesting week to watch most likely.

The problem with s-7 is you need 2 cent power  not 3 cent power.

It is under water at eight cents and soon to be under water at seven then six cents.

I'm VERY happy to read about a recovery of your funds.

The big jump of difficulty was in relation with the previous too big drop. Now it should be back to normal and the price should rise too in a few days.

But I have bad news too. :( From what I've read, this may be the last paid contest of yours until you find another campaign :(

Yeah I used his funds to put into Bitfinex then would take funds out to pay for this.

I did get almost all funding out of Bitfinex and when I count the funds donated from some fourom members.
I got back 600 of 700.

I can fund this without a signature campaign until Dec. I would pay 25  a jump vs 50.

I think that even if you'd pay 1$ a jump, people would still come here.
That's because this is a chance for free money and a nice and civilized thread/discussion.

And sooner or later you'll find another good campaign too.

Yeah pretty much my thoughts are that I will get a new campaign flat rate like I did with this one.

Back to diff.

there are or is  900 ph  of s-7 and avalon 6  and it is going to become worthless over the next 3 months  diff has to slow or drop.

Thats my guess.  Lets see how bad it is on sept 1 then oct 1 then nov 1

I agree with this, we don't need 50$, 5$ is quite en ought to have some fun ;-)

Ho men, I wanna buy an S9 today ... ROI is still extreme but you know ... :P

I grabbed one.  I still see something in the huge amount of s-7's and avalon 6's my power cost with the array  makes my s-9's able to beat a 2 cent s-7   and all the older gear will soon need to be on 2 to 3 cent power.  I just don't see the older gear lasting much longer.

I ran my Avalon6 all last winter and spring, but I've had it off all summer due to heat.  I had always planned to bring it back online once things cooled down again, but now I just don't think it's worth it.  Maybe as a lotto machine run a few hours here and there just for fun, but yea all that gear will be falling off the network fairly soon I bet.  I even ran my S5 all that time, too, but doubt I'll ever turn it on again.

My S3 and S1 I keep around in a box just for the memories hehe.

What is odd to me. is how eerily similar all the chinese pools are now in size as if they are in some agreement with each other.  Which to me just means one thing.  Its centralized thought amongst the top chinese pools which just throws decentralization out the window.  thats most likely what was discussed at the miners agreement.> lets not cut each others throats.  Just a thought i had .

If ETH STANDS fast. We may all end up mining it or a replacement GPU coin.

gonna be getting into cooler weather in the northeast usa, so ill likely build out another rig soonish. use my current freenas box and turn it into a miner as ill 1st build a proper freenas server with supermicro parts (ecc ram etc).

mining gpu stuff has the bonus of handmedown parts if you only have a few rigs and recycle parts into other systems.

glad you got some money back out of that loss, so to speak. as someone said, a buck would do, although just the chat and prediction stuff is enough.. i mean look what to people go through just for faucet money..

Thankfully it looks like the spike has peaked and is on the way down. Hopefully this averages out to a more mild increase.
Even though the peak hash has dropped off it's still currently sitting higher than it ever has in the past.  I honestly expected a bit of a slow down after the halving, but things just keep going up and up.

I just think it is funny how wrong all of the doomsayers were about the halving and the 1MB block size issue. I heard so many people conjecture that the hashrate would drop significantly and that we would have trouble solving blocks because of the difficulty.

Still 900 ph in s7 and  avalon 6 has to do something to keep hash rate down.

Maybe they are an anchor   and rates would be closer to a diff of 300 if it were not for them.

They wanted to wait September, but the temptation was too strong, they not only replaced three 28 nm for one 16 nm miner, but they also plugged a few more 16 nm and some also got their 14 nm up and running!

Who are "they"?  Bitmain, Bitfury, BW, ...

Exciting!

there are or is  900 ph  of s-7 and avalon 6  and it is going to become worthless over the next 3 months  diff has to slow or drop.

Thats my guess.  Lets see how bad it is on sept 1 then oct 1 then nov 1

The electrician finally fix the fried circuit. The blow dryer and Avalon were fighting for awhile so it took one hot night in the basement. So yes I was out all summer too. Still use the compac from time to time. Sold the S5 intime but am stuck with (2) S3's
I'll fire up the avalon6 to see if it wasn't damaged and run it while at work. Saved $300 a month on electricity and still can run my 2 pool servers on the cheap.

I'm not sure what to expect coming in future with R4: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1596886.0 .  Pretty drastic change in miner design will be inserting to see how it does, it should give 120 people something to be happy about.  So unsure how much this will effect difficulty if bitmain will use design internally or keep with bigger miner's.   Or they could have like a R4+ for internal looking at it there are 2 unused hashboard spot's ready to be plugged into and many without a connector.  But all guesses there.

Price I am decently happy with so far this period as no big drop's it seem's.  I have kinda slowed slowed down watching price and posting currently I have really gotten into 3D printing and it's taken up a ton of my free time.

It doesn't look to me like the R4 is going to have a measurable network wide effect like the S9 did.  But it will be interesting to see how the new cooling design works out, I'm sure we would all welcome quieter miners (although Bitmain won't see any money from me directly).

man only size, imaginations and supply of plastic is the limit for 3d printing.

It's been a fun adventure so far I started off with a monoprice 3d printer ( https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-Select-Printer-Heated-Filament/dp/B01FL49VZE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1472173723&sr=8-2&keywords=monoprice+3d).   It has amazing review's for the money on it.... but I got unlucky and guess mine was not checked for quality.   Fan fell off during printing which is bad... then the filament feeder broke a few day's later luckily amazon has great return policy.

The little one got the bug in me that enjoyed it enough after returning that monoprice one I upgraded to a Lulzbot 3d printer after much research.  Have been just starting off with PLA/ABS plastics to get my skills up.   Once I know what I am doing it is not even just plastic limit with this 3d printer :) everything from stainless steel, magnetic iron, copper, tons of plastics, to even wood - https://www.lulzbot.com/store/filament .

Been a fun week to say the least learning.   Messing around in a loft during summer is not a whole lot of fun to say the least.   Been a while since I have went into my barn's loft.   Hope all is well with your solar array, still a very sweet setup from pictures you have shown.

I spent 3-4 hours in the loft today.  and I got all the gear stable ;D ;D

There is a mystery issue where boards drop off  but still use power.

No hash at kano.is no 0000000000 in the gui but the power meter shows one board dropped.
I would take the miner out of the loft at buysolars house  bring it back to my house and it would mine fine.
Bring it back to the loft and the missing board trick would occur .
I tied many fixes at the solar array

Booting no go
reset no go
lower freq no go
use two boards with lower freq no go gear shows 1 board running kano shows one board running meter reads 2 boards.
use one board with lower freq no go gear shows no boards running kano shows no board running meter reads 1 board

network set up was.

cable>>> router>>>> 32 port switch>>>> seven miners and other gear

new setup
                                                              >>> buysolar's other gear
cable >>>> router >>>>> 32 port switch >>> new 5 port router > new 8 port dsl router >>>> Six  miners one open port to attach laptop
                                                                                                 > new 8 port dsl router >>>> one miner room for more and the laptop

and this lets all miners run with all boards so far no dropouts. I have to think this is a problem that I solved but i will keep checking to see  if it stays solved.

i have to resist the temptation to just grab one of the cheapest ones out there, for just the reasons you mention and others. hitting its limitations too soon, or lack of quality control. but i suppose you gotta start somewhere and at least i would know what to look for in a better one. just get something to learn on, expect it to break.

never know you could get different materials. bronze, bamboo ??

oh boy me wants even worse now..

Yeah  stainless steel  I need to make some stainless steel items.

I want this  insert in stainless steel   http://cdn3.volusion.com/tupwt.vxhen/v/vspfiles/photos/NP-3813-2.jpg?1471996598

If you have 3 inserts vs one that comes with the kit making the cake is easier

At this rate, we could be deep in the negatives, -3.0% or more. That would be awesome, but I doubt the trend will continue.

The amount of hashpower controlled by bitmaintech is amazing.

My pick is -1.2  which if I do win I will roll it over.

anyone track the biggest swing in a difficulty adjustment. like highest was +20, lowest was -10 for a 30% swing in any given difficulty adjustment  since the contest started?

Very interesting result. And I think it's good that the difficulty didn't rise much (although I really thought it will).
Also I think that we have a winner too (Congrats!), but it's Philip's part to confirm it since it's his show.

Two blocks to go! Does this mean my 1.2% has a good chance if miners take a long time to find these two blocks?
I just took the 1.2% from nextdifficulty.com when I posted it, it was the prediction at that moment, and it's very close again now.

i think you are not,

your pick had to be 1.6% , since 1.56% = 1.6% when rounded.

1.5  covers 1.50000000 to 1.599999999

diff was 1.56

we use 1.5 as a short notation
to save space.

I suppose next game we can write as

1.5000
1.6000
1.7000

rather then
1.5
1.6
1.7
