Title: Russia's sinking: Spain is now richer
Post by: countryfree on August 15, 2016, 10:56:19 PM
I was checking countries by their gross domestic product (GDP), here (http://www.imf.org/external/pubs/ft/weo/2016/01/weodata/weorept.aspx?pr.x=51&pr.y=10&sy=2015&ey=2016&scsm=1&ssd=1&sort=country&ds=.&br=1&c=512%2C672%2C914%2C946%2C612%2C137%2C614%2C546%2C311%2C962%2C213%2C674%2C911%2C676%2C193%2C548%2C122%2C556%2C912%2C678%2C313%2C181%2C419%2C867%2C513%2C682%2C316%2C684%2C913%2C273%2C124%2C868%2C339%2C921%2C638%2C948%2C514%2C943%2C218%2C686%2C963%2C688%2C616%2C518%2C223%2C728%2C516%2C558%2C918%2C138%2C748%2C196%2C618%2C278%2C624%2C692%2C522%2C694%2C622%2C142%2C156%2C449%2C626%2C564%2C628%2C565%2C228%2C283%2C924%2C853%2C233%2C288%2C632%2C293%2C636%2C566%2C634%2C964%2C238%2C182%2C662%2C359%2C960%2C453%2C423%2C968%2C935%2C922%2C128%2C714%2C611%2C862%2C321%2C135%2C243%2C716%2C248%2C456%2C469%2C722%2C253%2C942%2C642%2C718%2C643%2C724%2C939%2C576%2C644%2C936%2C819%2C961%2C172%2C813%2C132%2C199%2C646%2C733%2C648%2C184%2C915%2C524%2C134%2C361%2C652%2C362%2C174%2C364%2C328%2C732%2C258%2C366%2C656%2C734%2C654%2C144%2C336%2C146%2C263%2C463%2C268%2C528%2C532%2C923%2C944%2C738%2C176%2C578%2C534%2C537%2C536%2C742%2C429%2C866%2C433%2C369%2C178%2C744%2C436%2C186%2C136%2C925%2C343%2C869%2C158%2C746%2C439%2C926%2C916%2C466%2C664%2C112%2C826%2C111%2C542%2C298%2C967%2C927%2C443%2C846%2C917%2C299%2C544%2C582%2C941%2C474%2C446%2C754%2C666%2C698%2C668&s=NGDPD&grp=0&a=) and I was shocked to discover that the latest estimates put Spain in front of Russia. With less than one third of the people!

I knew Russia was a mess, but it's really surprising. I hadn't imagined it was so bad. One single spaniard is now richer than 3 russians. I can't understand why russians are not starting another revolution. Since last one was 99 years ago, maybe next year would be appropriate.

Wow! You are right. Russia has a hundred million more people than Spain. That translates into like 3 times as many people.

Do you think Russians hibernate through the winter? Or maybe they are really good at making vodka.

All I know them for are the Inquisition and their Running of the Bulls. :D

Absolute rubbish. Russia is having a very large "grey" economy, the size of which is many times larger than the official one. At least Russia is a sovereign nation, unlike the NATO vassal Spain.

Spain's economy is a lie.

They will first to be ruined in a global crisis event because their economy leans too much on tourism. In a global crisis, people give up their luxuries and vacations first. Does that ring a bell? In 2008-2010 Spanish Gov gave away their passports for 160k€ just to get out of Mortgage crisis. FFS!

On the other hand, Russia's economy leans on their natural resources. If you don't have it you have to buy from those who have it. You buy less or more but you have to buy in the end.

Russian economy is in no way sinking. In fact, it has been displaying continuous, fast growth (https://www.google.ru/publicdata/explore?ds=d5bncppjof8f9_&met_y=ny_gdp_pcap_cd&idim=country:RUS:CHN:BRA&hl=en&dl=en#!ctype=l&strail=false&bcs=d&nselm=h&met_y=ny_gdp_pcap_cd&scale_y=lin&ind_y=false&rdim=region&idim=country:RUS&ifdim=region&hl=en_US&dl=en&ind=false) since 1998, the only exception being the 2008 worldwide crisis, and a recent small drop due to sanctions.

Sanctions are having near-Zero impact. It is the falling crude oil and gas prices which has hit Russia hard. But still, they are preforming much better in some sectors, such as agriculture. For example, this year they overtook the European Union as the largest exporter of wheat.

Spain's economy is a lie.

Have you been to Spain recently? I'm going there at least 6 weeks each year, and it's a strong economy. Both Madrid and Barcelona airports are very busy places, among the busiest in Europe, and my last time in Barcelona, all the shopping centers I went to were crowded. Also Spain's manufacturing a lot of cars, bringing billions to the country. I was surprised when I found that info, but the more I think of it, the more I believe it.

Russia probably has 50 million or more people freezing their balls off having their arses subsidised to infinity as well. Even if there is barely such a thing as a welfare state, keeping people alive in a place of that magnitude must suck up vast amounts of money.

And as others have said, there'll be a monstrous economy that never gets anywhere near official figures. Same goes for Spain no doubt.

Welfare rats are present in every country, and not just in Russia. And according to the latest stats, the number of poor people in Russia amounts for 19.2 million (13.4% of the population). This may be lower in countries such as Germany and the United Kingdom, but Russia performs better than countries such as China and Brazil in this regard.

Good, I was there last February. I always try to avoid Spain during summer time, as it gets too crowded. Wasn't it crowded while you were there? Weren't the restaurants packed? Weren't the hotels fully booked? I was in Barcelona in mid June of 2015. We went to the placa Reial on a weekday, and it was still crowded at midnight.

OK.. here are the stats:

Russian national debt: 14.92% of the GDP ($148 billion)
Spanish national debt: 100.14% of the GDP ($1.18 trillion)

The Spanish economy is like an inflated balloon... It can burst at anytime.

This clearly shows Spain is much richer. It can borrow money easily whereas no banker wants to put into money in Russia. New car registrations give a good indication of a country's wealth, and both markets are now equal. That is quite incredible, considering the population's difference...

No. It means that Spain is living on borrowed time (and money). Russia is behaving much more responsibly to the future generations of the Russians.

Seriously those confrontation with the west on stupid issues are not conducive to the return from the English exile for the Russian community. Because there was a lot of values harvest from the Soviet ruins... However it makes a long time and this money didn't seat idle. To recap

1. Terrorist or Islamic fundamentalists are being fought
2. Russia keeps Crimea
3 eastern Ukraine is created
4. The rest of Ukraine is independent and nato free
5. Syria is federalized according to the Kurdish plan and the Kurds get their own federation

It's the best outcome... Otherwise more conflicts, more children sent to the west by smart parents knowing full well that America is special...eternal conflict against America is very dangerous as a plan or way forward... Who succeeded?

Exactly. If we remove the national debt, then the Spanish GDP will be in the negative. Russia does not need to borrow, as prior to the crude oil price collapse in 2014, they had a budget surplus. Also, most of the major corporations in Russia are nationalized, while the biggest Spanish companies are all American-controlled.

Well, this is the first time ever I'm reading that Russia is behaving responsibly. Note for the future generations that the spanish population is growing faster than the russian one. I believe the spaniards have more faith in the future, but they're richer so that helps to be more optimistic.

No. You have been caught lying again.

Number of births in Russia (2015): 1,940,579 (13.3 births per 1,000 people)
Number of births in Spain (2015): 417,265 (9.0 births per 1,000 people)

And most importantly, in Russia there is a natural growth (i.e births > deaths), while in Spain, you have natural decline (births < deaths).

Russia and Spain don't even fit in the same category so that you can compare them. Somebody simply read about "Russia's pain in the behind..." somewhere, and moved the "s"  away from Russia and in front of "pain," and then thought they would try to compare the two countries.

I booked my hotel 3 months before i get there. The city was very crowded. I like it crowded. A vacation in Barcelona wouldn't make any sense without a crowd. :) So i have no regrets, i liked it a lot. I usually hanged around plaça de catalunia and the street which goes to the beach from there. Beach clubs, weed clubs, strip clubs... You can have any kind of fun you like there. Airport was also crowded but nothing like disturbing.

Yeah i know spain makes a lot of cars. I heard VW have a factory there.

I am not saying Spain is completely worthless. (their income is mostly from tourism, which is worthless in war times) I say, Russia is in a better position.

I was in Barcelona last month.

So, how much does Putin pays you to write all that BS?
For your information, there's no street starting from placa de Catalunya which goes to the beach. And there are no weed clubs, nor a single strip club in Barcelona.

NOTE to all readers: MINDRUST IS A LIAR. He would have been in Barcelona, he would know there can't be a strip club in Barcelona. It would make no sense because just North of the city, there's a nude beach where anyone can see hundreds of naked women for free (yes, I've been there).

@lemmyK - This topic isn't about Slovakia.

You have never travelled to Barcelona, and you don't know anything about that city. There are dozens of strip clubs in Barca. Check these:

Atcually, it is a no-brainer. Which major European city does not have a strip club? They are more numerous than ATMs.
