Title: BTER stole my bitcoins!!! Still owes users BTC from the hack!
Post by: wutrigy on August 16, 2016, 05:28:29 PM
BTER has been hacked a year ago, and many users lost their Bitcoins. BTER is working fine and they returned minor amount of the owed funds a few weeks after the hack to calm people. Over one year has passed, and they didn't return and more of it - they still owe me 1.7BTC !!!

There is no information or news regarding stolen funds nor do they answer any support tickets or emails regarding that. Complete silence...

Anyone have any information? I would stay away from trading at BTER, don't know when you can lose your funds...

Well, that's the risk with exchanges... I'd take that money as a loss. If it comes back, it's an extra.

Volumes on there have dwindled to piddling amounts so even if they wanted to pay you back, they're not making the fees that'll enable them to. Or rather they're not going to give you the coins they stole.

I'm amazed it's still limping on. There's no incentive for the owners to keep running it other than the occasional theft for old time's sake.

It is very hard for any exchanger to wake up from the hack and it is same for bter and i am quite sure many have already lost hope of getting their bitcoin back from bter. Bitfinex may also face same situation like BTER is facing now in future.

This hack has happened more than 2 years ago and they still haven't been recovered these funds neither they have earned from the exchange fee through this time? I think that they will never conpensate these money, from the pic above it seems that only 9.76% were sent back to the users. Bifinex is more popular and they have already returned 70%+ to their users and I believe that they will send the rest shortly.

actually some of their users have problem regarding their funds on Bter since these exchange was hacked 2 years ago and unfortunately Bter wasn't solved this problem and since that many people will avoid Bter including me and i think this is good lesson for OP that do not trust 100% to exchange

Glad I never had heard of them in the first place. :)

These exchange scams will be the end of crypto if the community don't take actions against them. Soon there won't be anybody left who didn't get scammed by exchanges and i don't think those scammed people will come back and join the game again. They will think whole crypto as scam and stick to their FIAT.

I had to check my BTER account to make sure about this, but they never returned "anything" to anybody. they have only returned a number to your account as your previous bitcoin balance and called it BTC_B or BTC pending
Quote
Notice: The previous BTC balance has been moved to BTC-B which will be used as the reference for 100% compensating our user's BTC loss.

and if you check it you can see that this amount is not withdraw-able. it says BTC_B withdrawal is disabled.
in fact they never recovered from 7700BTC theft.

I stopped using their service after that hack and luckily all funds were into altcoins and got withdrew these to my wallets, I don't think it make any sense to keep using this exchange after this kind of scammy attempt, we have some very good exchanges to use their services but now I don't keep my funds into any exchange.

exactly, especially since all of their markets seems to be dead. i don't really understand why would anybody want to use their services anymore. the only alive market is CNY and that is mostly fake volume because people trade CNY on okcoin and other good Chinese exchanges not a hacked/dead exchange like bter.

Ouch, I never knew the "hack" was for such a large amount. An exchange as small as BTER can't expect to ever pay that back, especially after traders predictably stop using their exchange and they can't generate much in fees anymore.

This sounds a lot like what Vircurex did. I wonder if Vircurex is still around..... I imagine they didn't pay people back either.
