Thanks for the bug reports. I just pushed a fix that probably doesn't work for you, but might: when the internet is unavailable, the app would crash. It's fixed in version 3 on the app store.

Okay, it looks like the crashes have all been from users with older versions of the android API, and I was using a newfangled one for unnecessary reasons. I've switched it to something that I hope will be compatible and thus fix the crashes, but I don't really know as I haven't managed to get an emulator on an old API version yet.

Short story: if it crashed for you before, please let me know if it's fixed now.

Also, the widget now has a semi-transparent background, just for you saddambitcoin :).

Seriously, those features aren't high on my list at the moment.

Not to be contrary to what other people have requested, but I like how the widget works now - that if I tap it, it refreshes.  That's a lot faster than the Bitcoin widget which when tapped shows a chart - with that one you have to go into it's menu to refresh.  I like how yours works now.

I just pushed version 5 to the app store. It adds BTC support at bitfloor and btc-e. Cuz why not?  8) enjoy

Hmm.. I don't know how to resize the widget. I have Android 4.2.2, and I tried the long-click-and-drop method but no resizey knobs appeared. It would be a lot easier to address this issue if I could test it out myself.

Getting a lot of Java API and JSON error and exception messages relating to queries against bitfloor and vircurex, which is funny because I'm only set up to check btc-e.

I have gotten requests for more obscure coins. I have decided to include coins once they reach 10000+ BTC of market cap as reported by dustcoin.com. If I don't notice a coin reach this value, please let me know.

important: if you are having problems since update 18ish, try deleting your widget then adding it back to the desktop. The upgrade path wasn't clean as I moved to a different underlying preferences structure. Sorry about the inconvenience!

nope LTC with btc-e still doesn't refresh when I tap it , I tried uninstalling it and all that .

Seems nice but it's almost impossible to read in a tablet with 1200x800 screen. A 2x2 or 3x3 widget would be fine.

So this is indeed a bug, and it will eventually be fixed. For now you can work around it by adding your widget and *explicitly setting the coin to LTC*, as opposed to accepting the default (which is also LTC). The bug happens when you use the default.

Most of the work of adding new coins is tracking down the graphics and making them android-friendly. This could be mitigated by having some generic graphic with a text overlay for most coins.

There's also a little bit more boilerplate than there should be for each new coin added.

Finally, I'd like to make sure the UI can handle a bunch new coins without feeling cluttered.

Until I have time to tackle these issues (or someone contributes improvements), I have to continue to limit the coins I can add. For now, my policy is that a coin needs to have 10000BTC market cap to get added. I will also consider adding coins if they've been around for a long time, say 18-24 months or more.

i'm using your widget for a half year and so far everything was good. but lately i have added a Namecoin widget for BTC-e and its not working properly. The price it displays usually 0.5$ higher than the real one on the website.

How can I fix this?

This widget is the best. I recommend it by far. I use it since 5/2013 and so far it works great.

Someone suggested that the LitecoinWidget logo could use an overhaul, as it's not really about Litecoin so much anymore. The name too. I agree, and am entertaining suggestions in this thread. If you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

It has come to my attention that somebody rebranded Litecoin Widget as "crypto widget" on the play store without my permission. It is a near-identical clone of an old version. I guess I should have expected this due to the widget's open source nature. I'm not sure how I feel about this, so, for the time being, I have taken down the source code.

The widget is awesome and I love it so far.
Would you please consider to add the Bitcoin.de (http://www.bitcoin.de) exchange?

Yes. Sorry about that. I had an issue where the cached json file on my server was getting corrupted every time the cryptsy API call failed, which is lots. I fixed it about 12 hours ago. It will be good to know if you continue to experience a lot of crashing.

They said I needed to create an account and that I would then be able to access the API. They also said I could only poll the API once every two minutes, which is fine with me -- I'll cache the data on my server like I do with other unreliable exchanges (*ahem* cryptsy *ahem*).

But they haven't responded in a good while now..

I am planning to add Bter soon. Hopefully I can do it in a way that automatically includes all coins on their platform.

There have been some major issues with cryptsy widgets, mostly because the php code on my server that was handling cache requests was really inefficient and the server was getting bogged down with just a few requests per second.

I've completely rewritten the way caching is done, now it should be much faster. However, this change will require all existing cryptsy widgets to be reconfigured. You just have to go into your widget configuration and choose the coin again. Sorry, I tried to avoid this, but I suck and this is the best I could come up with especially because I wanted to fix the issue ASAP.

I was thinking about making a widget just like this that displays the current profits of Just-Dice.com. or better yet the profits of a user. Investors and bettors with bots would use this all the time.

It's a cool idea. I'd definitely consider adding it as a feature. I don't see an easy way to scrape the info though? Would the user have to input their j-d password just to see their personal profit?

to get personal profits a username and password would be needed. however, JD uses 2fa so it doesn't totally compromise security. additionally JD publishes anonymous account balances on a weekly basis. it may be possible to get anonymous account balances on a more frequent schedule or upon request.

@bitcoinproj has already implemented hourly total site profits in their twitter feed, so that seems like JD already has a method of automated requesting that information. I know total site profits would be pretty helpful too.

I did this by scraping the html off the front page, and caching the result on my server, since they never responded to my inquiries about their API. The data may be behind up to about 5 minutes.

Not a recognized bug. NMC on Btc-e works great for me. I suggest the following:

1. Ensure that you have the most recent version of the widget. You can find this by going to settings -> apps -> Litecoin Widget. It should be version 52 or 51.
2. Delete the NMC widget instance, and re-add it from scratch.
3. If you're still having a problem, please PM or email or post here the details.

Please add the new Cavirtex trading pairs! Cavirtex now supports CAD/LTC and BTC/LTC.

Somebody was kind enough to mail Virtex support asking them to provide the API details for these. Hopefully, I'll hear back soon, though, I've seen Virtex support just drop things before.

Is the widget still working with just-dice? It shows me after refreshing 15031,2934%. Till now i thought it shows the profit on just-dice right side. But that profit is at 15898,2770 at the moment.

There was a permission issue on the server I use to cache the data. I just fixed it. Thanks for letting me know it was broken.

Thanks! It seems to be more near the real numbers but it isnt exact. It shows 15889 since some time though in reality it is 15872 since some time now. Even though the update time says it should be more near the real value.

Isnt it possible to take the value directly from just-dice?

Really embarrassing.. I broke something else as I was fixing the permission error. Fixed now. When things are working properly, the data should not be more stale than about 1 minute.

The two issues with taking the value directly from JD are (1) the data comes down a javascript websocket and (2) it's behind cloudflare. The best way I've figured to get around this is to use phantomjs on a server to cache the interesting data. If doog wanted to make a public http api I would certainly not complain, though I understand this is not as easy as it looks; there are scalability / performance issues when you have thousands of phones pinging your site every few seconds :).

It's a nice idea. The biggest issue I can see is that, if the logos are living on a server, all the clients will have to download the logos creating significantly more traffic, battery use, etc. Probably with some intelligent measure of client caching, however, I could make it work.

I enjoy the widget very much thank you.  any idea why it doesn't sometimes refresh? Seems kind of random. I'm on a droid turbo.  I have multiple price widgets on the desktop and some update and some dont.

Yes, my server crashes every so often due to heavy request load, and is auto-restarted within seconds. If you send a request in the unlucky few seconds, you'll get denied. It's high on my list to fix this.

First off, I love the widget!  It tucks in there nicely, right next to my Bitcoin widget and my stock ticker :)

Any idea when you will be adding the new Dash logo?  The ? coin icon is flipping out my OCD, haha.
If you don't have time right now, is there a way I can do it manually?  My phone is rooted so I can access any area on the phone.

AFAIK there isn't a way you can do it manually, it needs to be updated in the source tree and the app rebuilt.

Medium term I'm partial to ThePeeps' idea to allow users to upload logos to a server so I don't have to do it myself (see the last few posts).


Possibly so.. it could definitely use some cleanup work, as there is a lot of fugliness in the code from it having evolved organically and in short hacky spurts from very humble beginnings.

Release notes:

version 69 brings a major overhaul to the backend, including:
- almost all requests go through my server now which provides caching and faster response times.
- future exchanges can be added and removed much more quickly without updating the app
- the time displayed at the bottom of each widget used to be misleading: if the data was cached, the time still showed like it was fresh. Now it shows the time the data was actually pulled from the exchange.
- all coin images are served from my server and cached on client devices which lays the groundwork for user-submitted coin images (soon!)
- "old world currency" is now "also display as", and behavior is more consistent
- remove cryptsy, added cryptopia

Oh, I neglected to mention -- you may have to delete and re-add your widgets after updating, because I don't think all the backend changes were compatible. Please let me know how this transition process goes.

Automatic refreshing does not work on MiUI 7.2.3.0. It is set to 30 minutes, but it never refreshes.

Additionally single tapping to refresh manually does not work initially after reboot. I have to first double tap to enter the widget configuration and accept it. It then refreshes the data and starts to work normally for additional instances (I have 4 instances on my screen).

It would be sweet if you could add btc38 exchange to the app . * Sometimes the widget shows the update date/time a couple of hours away - does that happen because some connection issue? Is there any way to see what went wrong?
* And a bigger issue: sometimes the widget freezes. Nothing works until the phone is restarted.
* Kraken has trading Monero lately. Any chance to add it to a future update?

Second thing I want to request is something like a statsitic about the prize in a diagramm when you press on the widget.

There is another App "Bitcoin Ticker Widget". This App does realize really good overview about the prize changes on Kraken Exchange for example. But there arenot the so much currencys and exchanges like in your app and also there is no option to change the colours...

Maybe this post helps and you are able to expand the functionality of your app!

Thank you for that great widget.  I have been using it since a few years already - great to keep an eye on prices.

However, it stopped working a few days ago for me.  I had just recently updated to that last version (79).  The price and update time stays stuck at what it was a few days ago (for instance, a fixed $905 on BTC-e, with 18:14 as the time).  If I tap on it to refresh, it does as if it was refreshing and writes "ok!", but the price and the time don't change.
I tried rebooting, uninstalling and reinstalling the app, nothing changes.
Interestingly, after reinstalling the app and re-placing the widget, it still says "18:14" as the update time.
I also tried clearing the cache and data from the app (in the phone settings)

In the new menu (debug options), both shaA512 and web requests work fine.

Would you have any idea of what could be the solution to this issue?

It started to work again this morning, without any other change from my side (and after not working for 4-5 days in a row).
So the issue seems to be solved, but I do not know the cause of it.

There are some issues most people will be happy (and not annoyed) to deal with when they will present themselves.  :P

Would it be possible to add a 24hr high and low along with volume to the widget? Furthermore it might be a nice feature that if you refresh one widget, all widgets are refreshed.

For the past few days, my phone hasn't been able to pull pricing information from Kraken (specifically BTC↔CAD). Did they change their API? Is this already a known issue? Would be nice to have BTC prices on the widget again. :-)

Its really hard to check all the altcoin's rates. i would want to see a fully loaded app which show user defined altcoin - BTC rate from different exchanges may be. I am a person who has invested in many altcoins. Will be happy if something like that comes up from this. Already using this from some time and it works perfectly.

Remember, you don't generally need to request to add coins, as I add entire exchanges at once. Though there are a few exceptions such as bitstamp (where I do need a reminder to add coins as it's not automatic).

I have been hearing increased reports about the 2x2 issue on newer phones, please continue to send me these reports and I'll see if I can get it fixed.

The binance data is not updating since they altered their API.
