Post by: Gohs on August 17, 2016, 12:38:04 PM
Why has amazon not added bitcoin as one of their payment options?

Are there any risks associated with buying and selling on amazon with bitcoins?

eBay and Amazon will more than likely won't accept Bitcoin , at least not anytime soon. Not only they need a lot of users who request Bitcoin but they also need the ability to manage chargebacks etc... (they can do that with PayPal however It's impossible with Bitcoin).

If you want to buy anything from Amazon , simply buy a gift card from Gyft or any other providers or use Purse.io

Where's their incentive? It's hassle. You gotta integrate new systems, promote it and at best you might get 0.1% of sales, probably a bunch less.

They're also a payment processor in their own right and have that token thing so there's some clash of interests too.

Maybe they are afraid of bitcoins flactuatiom and seriously that can be a big loss for them if they risk to accept bitcoin as their payment processor, but who knows maybe in the future they will truly accept it since the market of bitcoins are increasing maybe they are doing a deep analysis for that so they cannot do a wrong move to their business if bitcoins will gone to failure.

flactuation really is the big barricade for bitcoin to be accepted not only on.amazon but also in different online and local store.

This thing is not powered by Amazon officially. people can buy amazon gift card with bitcoin because of those amazon re-sellers who accept bitcoin and re sell amazon gift cards. these peoples are totally individual and Amazon not involved in them.

maybe Amazon officially accept bitcoin in future. but to be very honest it is hard. because Amazon is just fine with his own payment source.

The discount sounds great, but that is why I will never use this service or others like it. If you get goods from the wrong person it could cause some serious headaches and that is just not worth it.

amazon gift cards is actually a payment source of amazon.

I think that's not the main problem of the amazon has not received payment for bitcoin. May be due to factors introduction and legal use of the bitcoin which has not been recognized by any country or any person using the internet. So this is only technically related and I think in the future this could be a light for us

the unstable price is not really a problem because there's an API that exchange the bitcoin which being sent by the sender and will be exchanged to the fiat directly with the equivalent amount when the order was made,so it's definitely resolving the unstable of price problem, maybe they just want to stay on the safe zone and don't want to enable bitcoin before it was officially regulated yet

They're not accepting bitcoin directly for their payment because the price is always unstable but they accepting bitcoin payment indirect with buying their's gift card. Accepting bitcoin for their payment it's not only means you can using your bitcoin for directly in their site.

Steam accepted bitcoin and are dealing with it just fine. They don't have compel to the same refund policy as Amazon and eBay?

Seriously bitcoin has not build in charge back feature - but you have to do it manually. In case of refund they could just send BTC back to the same addresses which was used to made payment.

Even if its sounds like great idea, amazon will not accept bitcoins as currency in near future.
I didn't find any news about their future plans, and are they interested in blockchain technology at all. But if something like this ever happen it will be great boost for bitcoin community. Amazon is big business, bitcoin need to grow more to be ready for such big service like Amazon is.

Currently there is no news that Amazon will start incorporating Bitcoins.  Amazon may fear the double spending  and delay of confirmation of bitcoins and may not add in near future until bitcoin became more popular among masses.

Why has amazon not added bitcoin as one of their payment options?

Are there any risks associated with buying and selling on amazon with bitcoins?

First thing Amazon is service provider and Bitcoin is digital virtual currency.

Bitcoin is far big than amazon. As Amazon have to consider and implement all necessary thing to accept bitcoins. Even on large scale many of service have adopted bitcoins as a payment provider.

So till amazon adopt it we have to wait. And there will be no risk when amazon officially announce bitcoin as a payment partner.

What if we contact Amazon to add bitcoin as one of their payment so that they will decide that many buyers will buy in their online shop. If they accept bitcoin i think many online shop will do the same.
I think there are risk in buying and selling on amazon with bitcoin. Because if theres no risk, why they didnt accept it. I think amazon have reason why they didnt accept it. Like They cant get big profit here, or this bitcoin is use in blackmarket so if they accept it, theyre market is blackmarket too.

* Because adding bitcoin as a form of payment is, in their point of view, a huge risk due to volatility as well as the inability to make charge-backs. More importantly, I think it's also because no government has yet to acknowledge bitcoin, they're even having trouble on how to categorize it, so why would Amazon risk it especially since the demand is most likely negligible.

* The risk, at least for now, is mostly on the part of Amazon if they officially accept bitcoin they risk getting censured by government/users/other, add to that the volatility/instability of bitcoin's value, leads to them thinking it's just not worth it. At least for now. Let's hope it changes soon though as it'll be huge boost for bitcoin if mass-adoption or even awareness happens.

I dont believe amazon is smaller then bitcoin, as most and several people do use amazon to sell and buy several stuffs, soo that for me is wrong. Bitcoin will be present when they feel they can do it and will bring or keep their costumers happy, as the fees they charge should be the same, with the option to pay with bitcoin and just.

this might be a reason but i think amazon have their own payment processor already and adding bitcoin will somehow have an effect to their buyer.  There are really lots of things to consider when you have something to add or change to your mode of payment. And it will cost them alot due to website upgrade and testing.   It is not that easy.

Amazon and any other big companies wont be forced to accept or use bitcoin, namecheap allows bitcoin, with a third companie between the bitcoin and the cash, they werent forced, they saw an opportunity and i do believe their results are good. You cant force no one to adopt bitcoin because price or value will raise over time, bitcoin is an option to the most merchants as costumers.

Think about the amazon will accepting bitcoin or not it's just useless things in this day and why? caused by all of the suggestion will no be heard by the amazon and will be better if discussing with their CS... but for my personally if still there is a way for buying in amazon I will not making a hard things for that.

I think its not useless to suggest amazon to accept bitcoins since bitcoins are great option to be accepted for them but the thing that barricade them for accepting it is the unstability of the price and that is the big minus for business sector including amazon since they can lost money for certain downfall of a price, but also in other hand i think amazon are in deep analyzation for bitcoin since it is thrend in global markets  maybe we can't see it accepted by them for now but mayb in the future we can see that they are accepting it if the time is right.

Amazon is very big company, it is the largest Internet-based retailer in the world. They make a lot of money, and they do business in many countries. Probably they pay big taxes everywhere, and with bitcoins it can be a little tricky. First not all countries have regulation about bitcoin usage, how they will show their profit with bitcoins in country that not have law about it?
I think its not so simply to implement bitcoin such big structure, and that is the only reason why they still didn't do it. But now when New York accepted bitcoin, maybe amazon will offer to people from NY to purchase things with bitcoins, we will see.

Before any auction being taked byt the countries around bitcoin, google were allowing people to purchase some products with bitcoin, with a third company providing the money to them and taking the bitcoin, soo there isnt nothing to do with rules from others countries as a similiar  act may be adopted by amazon, and now sure they may allow it a NY and them to all, but its just they wanna to work with, that are some companies providing those service between the costumer and the company.

The instability is always been a main reason of the big companies needs think for a twice accepting bitcoin in this time. I hate it but I love it... that's so dilemma for me...but maybe the exit problems are they need for converting the bitcoin payment into the cash in directly but the another problem will appear caused by the every transaction needs a time and the movement of price has always happened on every second.

eBay and Amazon will on summit of likely won't admit Bitcoin , at least not anytime soon. Not single-handedly they habit a lot of users who demand Bitcoin but they then dependence the carrying out to run chargebacks etc... (they can reach that when PayPal however It's impossible behind Bitcoin).

If you ache to get conformity of all from Amazon , profitably make a obtain of a talent card from Gyft or any new providers or use Purse.io

Are there any risks associated with buying and selling on amazon with bitcoins?
Maybe they do not want bitcoin to  rule the world LOL.

Amazon has a big audience and if they would accept bitcoin, it would give bitcoin a tremendous boost, However i think they are working on their own kind of crypto currency. The same way like google does but then for their market place.

They have larger numbers of user but mostly of them are not bitcoin user or no knowledge about its existince, and so by that maybe they don't see the mass numbers for bitcoin users for now thats why amazon don't see bitcoin is worth to accept with, and im pretty sure they are doing some good analysis and data collecting for bitcoins and the users itself so they can determine how huge the volume of users, and if they will see enough users to it i think in this future bitcoin will be implemented at amazon.

With google they have milions of costumer, but they allowed us to invest into google products with bitcoin, soo they saw bitcoin potencial and are working with it. I doubt amazon wont allow bitcoin over the next years, namecheap is fully working with it and i doubt they regret those option they had add to their options of payment.

That is true and very important. What Bitcoin needs at this momemt is some big companies backing bitcoin up. The larger the better because it will give trust into bitcoin, from use but also from other companies, who will think, Well if Amazon takes it, it must be good.

Well the big problem really for bitcoin is the price of it is unstable and im pretty sure they are afraid for it since businessman and institution doesn't want to lose money from it and im sure nobody would like to lose since it can lead them to be down, and so thats why i think they are doing deep surveying and analytical data collecting about the market and the user itself, im very sure they are looking for bitcoin but the bad thing is we don't know if they accept it or not.

When I talk to businesses about bitcoin your point about instability comes up a lot. They can't deal with holding a currency that could drop 10% overnight. However there is no reason to face any market volatility with a payment processor. A company like BitPay will handle the transaction and make a cash deposit in your bank account each day. That is faster than taking a credit card, safer for all parties, and cheaper by 2%. The only logical reason to not take bitcoin anymore is ignorance of how it works. Bitcoin is a not only a better deal for consumers, but also better for sellers.

Well amazon wont be allowing bitcoin in the near future, maybe at 2020 they are working as some big companies that had joined already bitcoin, as long a third companie gets the bitcoin or they exchange the bitcoin at the rate of the day nothing will happen, namecheap works that way you can deposit and the balance will show into dollars, if bitcoin value change isnt anymore a problem.

It is better if you are going to buy to purse.io even though they are just selling gift cards for bitcoin that can be used to buy anything in amazon. That is already considered that we can use bitcoins for purchasing anything in amazon but with the help of 3rd party websites. But I hope that amazon is going to accept bitcoins directly soon.

I'm not sure I understand.  Directly processing bitcoin transactions is what BitPay does. There are others if one prefers. Or a business could have a trade account at an exchange and do it themselves. I only mention a payment processor because that is something 99% of businesses already do. All credit cards purchases, for example, are processed by a third party and cost the seller about 3%.

It would be great for Bitcoin if they could make a deal with amazon and let Bitcoin act as a payment on there website because amazon is far more popular then Bitcoin.
If they manage to do it Bitcoin will become allot more popular for sure.

you must know about bitcoin payment gateway API such as coinbase and bitpay that will convert the bitcoin that sent to the specific address directly into fiat to avoid the volatility characteristic and also having zero confirmation feature that would be very useful,it's not a new thing.

I think the reason why amazon still doesn't accept bitcoin as a payment method is because bitcoins price is more volatile than the other currencies. I think that when bitcoin is widely known  and used worldwide then amazon will definitely add bitcoin as a payment method.

For now If you guys want to purchase something in amazon you can use purse.io or rewardspay.com
