Yeah... ummm nobody believes this was a legit give away.  The person who owns the 1k coins just sent it to themself via another address to try and get some attention for some reason.

Generally, I don't click these kinds of links before I analyze them. Here's the Virustotal scan. (https://www.virustotal.com/en/url/c64c6e667576c53b855695638cd201d20548b82bc3a9a77cb7a431af78186e47/analysis/1471520646/)
This story is as legit as the giveaway was. You ended up being a fraud as suspected (regardless of whether we assume that this article is correct or not).

Update:
Lol why would you be paranoid of such a link?
I've never used this website in particular. Actually, this is the first time that I've heard of it. Not that this is really the primary subject of this thread.

Lol why would you be paranoid of such a link? The link is hosted in vice.com, how is such a link going to pose any realistic treat unless vice.com itself was compromised which is very unlikely?

So they knew each other. He planned to propose her. And she was randomly picked as winner.
What a randomly happy coincidence, isn't it?
I mean come on.... are they that stupid to think anybody can believe this crap story?

Honestly I loved reading that article although I have a major regret why the women faces were blurred. I love to see their faces as one of them was hot at least it looked to me the left one red head and skinny just how I like them. Lucky woman to be proposed by a guy with more than 1000 bitcoins in his wallet. Of course this story has a lot of holes and its a fixed one anyway I had fun reading it.

i think many here tried that lottery anyway lol, i also tried it despite knowing that it was a scam, but who care nothing was asked in exchange so we had nothing to lose, also he didn't show any proof of those hacked coins he claim to have stolen from bitfinex

fwiw i dont click links in general either, i am super paranoid of anything.  If i had a higher technical knowledge then i would trust myself more.  One thing for sure the last time i got hacked for anything was back in 2008.

sorry to be a bit off topic here but you really don't need to be paranoid or a teck savy to figure things out as long as you have access to google:
https://www.google.com/search?q=can+you+get+a+virus+from+just+visiting+a+website

and the short answer is YES.

For a moment I felt like I'm reading a novel based out of a Bollywood movie. The part where where they state, the point of this drama was to "propose to the women he liked" is simply ridiculous!I couldn't find any wallet with that public note "send me money I'm poor".I'm sure the entire thing is a troll and or as stated above,an attempt to send money to himself. You can see how qucikly the coins are being moved. They are residing here right now https://blockchain.info/address/16j8aThXJfgFkLbcf4pAASpKKYwBnnUf2q if anyone wants to investigate further.

I always knew this gonna happen so i never applied too. But if you see the thread of that give way, its enormous.
I wonder people trust too much that they will be paid free bitcoins.

WTF did I just read... When I thought I'd heard about everything something even more weird comes up. ::) I can't see what did the author of the "giveaway" had to win with all this.

Quote
“By the way, there are laws about giveaways in every state,”

I don't think this is relevant with Bitcoin, but I'm not a law expert.

whatever happen to 1k btc, that send it to his self etc. dont mind,
question is what happen with the extra btc that dumb ppl send on the correct address , because ppl actually continue send btc after the address was back to normal , expect from the fake one..

It just shows you, people do silly things when two key ingredients are present... Love and Money. Both of these, bring out the animal behaviour in people.. greed and sex. The story was interesting, but

has more holes than a Protitute's fishnet stockings.  ::) I think the most surprising twist in this story, where the reaction of people on Reddit, and how they tried to justify their greed.  ;D ...It just shows

the vulnerable parts for human beings.  ;)

It's definitely better to be cautious than to end up paying the price. It doesn't cost one much to check whether the website seems safe or not.

and the short answer is YES.
Exactly. This is why one should scan links posted by random users here (preferably open them in a sandbox or VM environment if you have a lot of coins on your system).

I don't think this is relevant with Bitcoin, but I'm not a law expert.
I'd say it's in the grey area in most countries as the regulation is lacking at the moment.

I think the most surprising twist in this story, where the reaction of people on Reddit, and how they tried to justify their greed.  ;D
I wouldn't be surprised if this article was paid for though. Unfortunately, a lot of the people fail to admit their own faults and tend to get 'insulted' if you point them out. You can observe the effect of greed in some of the sections around the forum.

So the guy doing giving away coins probably placed a virus on every computer that went to his site in order to steal their coins from them... that's really interesting.

Knew from the start that this was just a cry for attention.. And a bad attempt at it too..

The story is just too much and doesn't make sense. Nobody is giving away 600k as a proposal present to someone they met a few months ago, especially after that person starts claiming not to be too tech savvy.. "Wow, so romantic to receive 1000 bitcoin, but what is bitcoin?"

Regarding clicking the links, wouldn't you think the risk of being infected by a malicious ad is much bigger than clicking on a wrong link?

'Redditors and bitcoin experts alike guessed at numerous explanations for the lottery, which ranged from clumsy money laundering to pure trolling. Either way, many suspected that reckahxfb had simply sent the coins back to himself, using the alias TheTwistedTwo, or to someone he knew under that name (more on this later)'.

That wasn't considered legitimate by anyone on the forum. Even the site that you put on the thread say's that he sent the money back to himself. He probably just created another wallet and transferred it.
