Both are unsafe as they are online wallets and using online wallets is not recommended unless you are keeping very small amounts for daily uses.
Desktop wallets are much better If you know what you are doing , Paper/Hardware wallets are definitely the best so yeah... It's pretty much depends on the amount you are storing and the purpose .

I wouldn't leave any large amounts of bitcoin in either as they're web wallets. I do know that with blockchain.info you can print off the private keys to the addresses you have with them so in the event it goes down or there's a DoS you will be able to get access to the coins.

I'm unsure if you can do that with Xapo too?

Lol of course blockchain safer than xapo. besides blockchain have an older age. although they are a third party, but they do not have control over your bitcoin dude. so you have control over your own bitcoin wallet, blockchain also gives many facilities.

Yes both are unsafe but OP is asking which is safer of the two.
Probably OP has no other option but to use online wallet.

For me, Blockchain is safer. I feel more comfortable using it.
Although Xapo requires your account to be verified before you can send/receive bitcoins.

if you want to use online wallet, use coinbase, i am using it more then 2 year and i never had any problem, but listen to OmegaStarScream and dont keep big amount in online wallet, better use desktop wallet.

if you want online wallets for gambling, be careful, most of them are blocking gambler users

Both are unreliable but there s a very big difference from blockchain to XAPO as with blockchain you have the private keys and you really control the addresses there and you can import those private keys to certain other wallets like Multibit or Electrum if something bad happens to the website like going down because of a DDOS attack. With XAPO is almost like coinbase and they can even block your account certain times.

No, it doesn't matter how 'old' they are. Generally, online wallets should be avoided.

If you have to use online wallet, try both with smaller amounts and find which one is easier for you to use and more convenient.
Use a desktop SPV wallet, they're equally convenient and easy to use. A good example of that would be Electrum.

if you want to use online wallet, use coinbase, i am using it more then 2 year and i never had any problem
This is horrible advice. Coinbase should be avoided at all costs.

i think blockchain is more safe, i have been using it for really long time now and i never was scammed and never heard anything bad about this bitcoin wallet
Besides the fact that you should not be using online wallets in the first place?

Both wallets are web online wallets which means you are relying on third parties to hold your bitcoins for you. Not the ideal case if you ask me. Its not difficult to change to Electrum for example , www.electrum.org and download this perfect wallet take your time to read the documentation at their website and you should be good to go. Remember that almost all of the horror stories who bitcoins were hacked were from blockchain the majority of them. If you wanna sleep OK at night I suggest you immediately migrate to Electrum from web online wallets.

There are both good anyway, But when it comes in the feed of other's member here Blockchain is the one to keep on it, when it comes to history background or track record Blockchain is the good to choice. Though xapo has a good track record too. But I suggest never keep a big amount in this two wallets. its for a small amount of bitcoins.

If you are going to use the xapo bitcoin debit card service then go with xapo otherwise blockchain is good too. But i dont prefer any of them especially xapo which does not provide private key.

Both wallets are insecure. Online wallets are the worst place to store your bitcoin.

Xapo takes control of your funds.
Blockchain has control of your wallet file, but not your wallet. If they go down or decide to delete your wallet, neither one of you have access to your coins.

But the best would defenitely be blockchain.

Post by: xJuturna on August 19, 2016, 09:46:23 AM
In terms of all the possibilities they're the most unsafe to use. But compared to each other it would really come down to features. I wouldn't say one is more safe than the other since they are both online wallets and both serve the same purpose and act in similar ways.

Your best bet if you want to be as safe as possible, like quite a few people have said already, is to create either a desktop, paper, or hardware wallet.

I think blockchain is much safer than xapo, but if you want to use wallet without fee then use xapo, blockchain have a fee for every transaction you made even small amounts,. If I were I you I will use those 2 wallet , blockchain for saving btc, and use xapo for your daiy sending funds to others. Like investment etc.

I generally agree with Lauda saying that online wallets should be avoided, at least for putting large amounts on it.
But I think it's perfectly fine to hold small amounts of coins on them, just not more than what you could afford to lose.

If you're trying to save coins without using them, I'd put them in a paper wallet.

If you have a small amount for spending, I think blockchain.info or xapo are perfectly fine.

I would say that if you want to remain really really safe, so blockchain and xapo are not safe for you.
Better store your btc in offline wallet if you want security, but if you want mobility and a good online wallet, then choose blockchain (xapo has no fees anyway)

I think both of them have the same level of security, both of them have their own unique and speciality, as i know most of the bitcointalk user used blockchain, because it can easily generate a lot of address and you can sign message (which is needed in some withdrawal and verification) and for the security is quite good, you can set, each time you want to access, you need to confirmed through an email, while xapo need a lot of confirmation when you want to withdraw your coin

Title: Re: Xapo or blockchain?
Post by: Jeremycoin on August 19, 2016, 10:58:39 AM
I more prefer Blockchain.info, because if you use Xapo you can't import your private key, they will keep your private key instead (which means you can't sign a message with your Bitcoin address on Xapo).
And the other reason is, I just feel more freedom when I'm using Blockchain.info as my online wallet.

both is not really safe as it is online wallets, better go off from it because your privkey will be saved on their database, but if you're not having problem with this,i do prefer blockchain because you can sign message from it and could control the address because you'll be shown or given the privkey, but the security, i could say both are at the same level

I would choose neither. Online wallets are hacked on-and-off, and if I remember correctly, the Blockchain Wallet (if you mean this (https://blockchain.info/wallet/#/) one) had already been a sort of hacked in the past. So if you are anything serious into Bitcoin, you shouldn't use online wallets at all.

There's no reason to opt for a web wallet in comparison to SPV wallets like Electrum in these cases either.

It doesn't have to be an offline computer. I comes down to your usage habits and expertise. Generally, even a SPV wallet (e.g. Electrum) on a computer used daily (the same one that would have been used for the web wallet) is safer.

I think both bitcoin wallet Xapo and Block chain is good and both are safe, but i prefer pick blockchain, because blockchain is my first bitcoin wallet and i don't have any problem everytime i use blockchain.
This is useless advice.

And the other reason is, I just feel more freedom when I'm using Blockchain.info as my online wallet.
Using a web wallet is counter-intuitive to freedom. They're just a better version of Coinbase.

So if you are anything serious into Bitcoin, you shouldn't use online wallets at all.
To better formulate it: If you're using Bitcoin for the right reasons and care about its intrinsic values, you're not going to use web wallets.

If I'm not mistaken, the Blockchain Wallet doesn't save your private key in their database. But this doesn't make it any more secure, since the key can still be obtained by criminals through using fishing sites (or Tor exit nodes under their control as it already happened in the past).

In fact, I meant something else (but this doesn't mean that I disagree with you). If you have large amounts of bitcoins, it is mandatory that you use some kind of cold storage (e.g. offline wallets).

Currently i like more blockchain as i found it easy to use then xapo, last time i saw several coins list, but sure online wallets arent the best way to storage big ammounts of bitcoin, bitfinex recent hack just showed those websites has some security issues and one day who knows if the target wont be those two companies.

I dont think that online wallets are unsafe and desktop wallet are safe, once my friend system got hacked and he was using coinbase and xapo for online and was also using electrum desktop wallet, but the hacker was able to hack the electrum desktop wallet and stole the seed key and was able to withdraw the bitcoin stored in desktop electrum wallet, but he was not able to hack the online wallet both coinbase and xapo as both are having 2fa security, coinbase is using sms and email confirmation when ever you are login through new IP address so he was not able to login my online wallet and like this my friend got saved from losing bitcoin in online wallet.

It is true that using online wallet for gambling is too risky as if they find it then they will block your account. but desktop wallet dont have any limit and you can use it any way.

Since I have never tried xapo so I would rather suggest blockchain. Because I think bitcoin users who use blockchain more than xapo, and I think blockchain it's safe wallet providers. But according to what I read on the web xapo, they negate the transaction fee charged if you send money from blockchain. I guess all the above wallet safe, and depending on your decision to use which. thank you

This is a common problem. Online wallets (I mean those that exist for a long time) have at least some security level. It may be argued which online wallet is more secure and which is less, but if your computer is not properly protected and you don't follow simple security rules, your desktop wallet may not be even remotely as secure as any online wallet out there.

Which tastes better, a rock or a stick?

Both are terrible options (both OP and what I've written above). You don't hold your own private keys and you're just as prone to 'hacks'* as any exchange is. Use pocket change or faucet money on these but anything of value you should store either on a paper wallet, hardware wallet or for ok security your encrypted phone or a computer. Just stop using online wallets actually. Who has free money to spare? I know I sure don't.

*hacks may actually end up being blockchain.info / Xapo

For me the blockchain is better because its simpler and also has a better overview, it of course stays a online wallet but its a good one if you are asking me.
Blockhain is also one of the biggest online wallets and most likely also the safest.

Why not we could have both XAPO and blockchain wallets.

Usually I do not suggest online wallets, still if you prefer to access your bitcoins from multiple devices (like using bitcoin from mobile and computer) and not fan of hardware wallets, you can go for online wallets like Xapo / blockchain.

Prime advantages of blockchain over Xapo :
1. Allows you to access private-keys of your addresses.
2. You will be able to sign a message from your addresses.

Prime advantages of Xapo over blockchain :
1. No tx fees for sending out bitcoins.
2. New deposit address for every time.
3. Xapo to Xapo will be instant and also using email IDs (similar to paypal).

If you have a small amount for spending, I think blockchain.info or xapo are perfectly fine.
i do agree with that point but sometimes we need to access our wallet without need to install an app so the online wallet is the solution,as you say putting all of the bitcoin in an online wallet is such a bad thing so only small part of all bitcoin would be fine,we can't really avoid online wallet but we want to avoid the lose

You're telling me you honestly don't have your phone on you when you're needing to spend bitcoins? I lost money from blockchain.info and I've avoided all online wallets ever since. It's a non-issue for anyone. If you use an online wallet you might as well be keeping your money on an exchange because they have the same security levels and will be hacked

Not exactly that. Xapo earn money when users buy  debit cards and also from various card fees. From part of this money Xapo can cover transaction fees and also have profit. Debit cards users don't pay for other people transaction, they only paying for debit card.

But its also what you like of course due to the fact its what you are self preferring.

I also use it sometimes for small amounts that I have to pay to buy something, its pretty nice and fast, they have a good website and the interface is indeed nice.
A offline wallet is better but sometimes the blockchain is good to use.

Coinbase has been there for more than four years already (it was founded in June 2012 according to Wiki), and as far as I remember (I've been using this wallet since 2013), they have never been charging any fees for transactions above relatively small amount. Bitcoin payment cards is a rather fresh phenomenon which has been there maybe for a year or so, and they should have been covering their costs somehow before introducing these payment cards.

Wait until you will be asked about account verification, they will block your account because you will receive coins from address they will find 'suspicious'.
It might be every gambling site or even faucets with integrated little games like freebitco.in. Then you might evaluate your opinion about them.

If you don't want any problems with your coins in the future (and you need online wallet) switch to blockchain.info.

If you receive or send small amounts of bitcoins maybe you won't need to send verification documents. I'm used this wallet to send or receive funds from or to HYIP's, cloud mining or sports betting but they didn't asked to send them documents. But maybe they choose users by random factor.

I would go with blockchain since they do not require to pass the verification process if you do something that they wouldn't want.

Xapo is good and in some cases is better than blockchain because they offer the exchange and bitcoin card service.

With Xapo your every transaction is monitored, your every action noted, but there is no way they would know every gambling address.
There are so many niche, small gambling sites around and HYIP sites are appearing and then vanish over night.
Anything related to gambling is direct violation of their ToS.

According to https://bitcoinfees.21.co/ (https://bitcoinfees.21.co/)

The fastest and cheapest transaction fee is currently 70 satoshis/byte.
For the median transaction size of 226 bytes, this results in a fee of 15,820 satoshis (0.08$)

So your free wallet like Xapo is good only if:

1. Your primary source of BTC is faucets, you create a lot of dust transactions.
2. You are sending multiple low volume/dust transactions or sending overwhelming large number of transactions everyday.

In other cases I don't think that giving up your privacy is worth it.

If you are looking to store a small amount of bitcoins, then probably Xapo as there are no fees for transactions. If you want to use a large amount of bitcoins though, I'd suggest a desktop or paper wallet since online wallets can be hacked.

Xapo good for new users who earn bitcoin from the faucet, because no charge.

I've been using blockchain.info for several years without problems and very safe with adds 2FA.

It will be vary hard to hack blockchain.info wallet because even if attacker will got access to their server user's wallet are encrypted.
Same with password to your account, blockchain.info has not access to it. First they would need to decipher it.
You can always make a copy of your private keys and export your  blockchain.info's wallet data to Multibit or Bitcoin Core as well.

I am using coinbase from the beginning and transacted more than 2 BTC and found no problem there, my advice is store only very less bitcoins in web wallet, if you are going to use more than 5 BTC better to use desktop wallet which is more secure than web wallets.

The point is never trust any 3rd party for storing your bitcoin, it's better to storing them on your own pocket.
anyway i'm suprise that you transacted more than 2 bitcoin on coinbase, is just calculated or you stored all of them the 2 bitcoin out there, due to coinbase and xapo is similar, you can't own the private key i saw many cases that people account in coinbase and xapo are frozen since they did something wrong against their rules like used their service for gambling, at least in blockchain you have own control over your private key, so no one can't freeze your money, whatever you do with your money.

I've never used the Blockchain wallet myself, mostly because the idea of sending the private key across the net doesn't look quite safe to me. It's true that you don't have access to the keys if you are using a Xapo or Coinbase wallet, but even if your key gets sent through an encrypted channel like https, you are still vulnerable to a MITM attack (man-in-the-middle attack). A few years ago the Blockchain wallet keys of a number of darknet users had been successfully intercepted by an exit node of the Tor network, and their coins got stolen.

I don't use the Blockchain wallet and will hardly use it in the future, but if you feel interested, in this thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1467458.0) people are actively discussing how to sign or verify a message in what they call a new Blockchain wallet. Take it for what it is worth. Maybe, some other features in the list you posted have been added or fixed as well.

The most online wallets are just bad because of the lack of security..

If it feels more secure, does it mean that it is in fact more secure? In web wallets such as Coinbase or Xapo your private keys never hit the web, either encrypted or unencrypted, so there is no possibility for the man-in-the-middle-attack, which has already been successfully employed to steal money from the Blockchain wallets. On the other hand, users keeping their private keys "at home" are still susceptible to being directly hit by hackers. Hackers could steal passwords from other web wallets as well, but enabling two-factor authentication solves this issue. Further, users who can audit their own security would likely shrink from using any web wallet altogether.

So, is the Blockchain wallet really more secure than other web wallets that keep the keys?

I would use blockchain.info because it is just simple to use.

I wouldn't recommend Xapo to anyone because I haven't tried it.

Hello friends
Which is more safe xapo or block chain wallet? And why?
I use both, but I always for special purpose. If I want to send big amount or more than 1 btc I use blockchain because use blockchain faster than xapo. For me, xapo is very good for received and save bitcoin for long time

Before i do love to used xapo wallets, but now i do just prefer to used coinsph which is of course gives me more services because since it is currently operating in my country they do have staffs that is really good in terms of customer service. And  i am much more aware also of their facilities and personal information.

Bothe are online wallets but if you want for difference in both of them then I will suggest for blockchain because blockchain will not interfere in your personal details and will only keep your bitcoins while xapo will ask for all the details of you and after that they will freeze your bitcoins and will ask for documents.

I use both, Xapo and Blockchain and I'm satisfied with both. Maybe I could say that I find Xapo a bit safer, although that could be just a feeling. In Xapo you are backed up with your personal documents and verifications and in case of some troubles you have some legal basis and I feel protected. For Blockchain I think there is nothing you could do if someone steals or attacks your coins. But like I've said, this is mainly just personal feeling.

Talking about safety i would choose bitcoin and i think funds in xapo are not safe from even xapo because of their more safety features. They may suddenly ask for identity verification which i never like.Thats why i am using blockchain.info wallet over xapo and many other would also recommend the same.

The blockchain is pretty okay and I think that you can easily manage your wallet on it too, the only thing is that you have to pay some fee's of course that is not something that is bad because the fact is that less more secured.

I think the both are good online wallets, but I prefer to use blockchain.info. I think it's more simple to use and it's very famous, trusted and safe, I never had any problem with this wallet.

Xapo has some good points also like the faucets paying directly to that and the xapo credit card for who likes it.

From my day-zero on bitcoin i used Xapo as web-wallet, worth to note that the login process and the verification identity is safe but very long..you have to receive code on your phone every 5 minutes or so, plus others annoyng things. Just to positive note, i find it very safe, not a single sat was never lost ;)

Xapo is greater although blockchain is the most secure online wallet. There are several reasons why i support Xapo. First, users do not have to pay for the fees when they make a transaction. Second, the wallet is well-designed and very attractive. Third, Xapo have developed their debit system for years. That's why i choose Xapo

What makes you think that it is more secure than Xapo or even the most secure web wallet? Quite a few people had been complaining about their bitcoins having been stolen from the blockchain wallet due to security leaks. If you ask me, I would stay away as far as possible from this wallet. Just read this reddit thread (https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2oo72b/victim_100_bitcoins_stolen_from_blockchaininfo/) about someone losing a hundred bitcoins there.

Has Xapo been hacked even once?

I think blockchain is much safer than xapo, but if you want to use wallet without fee then use xapo, blockchain have a fee for every transaction you made even small amounts,. If I were I you I will use those 2 wallet , blockchain for saving btc, and use xapo for your daiy sending funds to others. Like investment etc.

I agree with this idea, better to have both accounts as each have his positive and negative aspect
NC is safe and fast, but have transactions fee then is good for storing the bank....instead keep a small part of bank on Xaopo account for daily expenses and transactions, or to get payment....then you can safely move money from one to another!

You cannot be serious.

1.Coinbase is not a bitcoin wallet,it's a damn bitcoin bank ran by corporates.
2.Coinbase is not anonymous and the keep track of how your coins are spent/where they came from.
3.Xapo does the same, offers free bitcoin transactions with other constraints.
4.Don't be surprised to wake up to your wallets being hacked.
5.Hey have you heard of bitcoin core? Or electrum ?

Xapo is indeed not very safe because it has not such a good security, you cannot secure it optimal with the blockchain there are way more options without any doubts.

1. And what difference does it make? I mean even if Coinbase is a bank, it doesn't cease to be a Bitcoin wallet.
2. The chain is not stronger than its weakest link. I mean bitcoin transactions themselves are only pseudoanonymous.
3. So they are basically the same.
4. Desktop wallets are hacked every now and then. Has Coinbase (or Xapo) been hacked even once?
5. See 4.

I think it's okay to use online wallets for small amounts. For spending, shopping, bits of payments and such. I haven't personally encountered an issue with one yet, so good enough. (Probably because I don't keep much on them. It's usually just passing thru.)

Now, as for Xapo vs Blockchain, I would personally choose blockchain anytime. The fees could get high, but I do feel safer with it compared to Xapo. And none of that 'ID verification' stuff.(Least none that I know of.)

Still, you could just download core/electrum or such. Now THat, is way more secure, plus, only you got control of your coins.

You got it, blockchain is the most secured bitcoin wallet provider. But of course we are not the same, we have our own perspective on why we are going to like ones bitcoin wallet provider.

But for me, Blockchain would be the best even though I tried to use xapo but I stopped already I hated their 60 second cool down for security.

Unlike blockchain's email verification.

I really don't think there is all that much difference in safety. The safety is up to you to make sure your pc is always clean of malware and trojans and keyloggers and other meanies :( Xapo I use it is good I love the interface it's so professional and sleek. Thought the addded  security requires you to use a cell number to send a code to and this annoys me but I guess it is very secure. Someone would need your phone and password to get in.

That's one of the reasons that web wallets on average are more secure. You enable the two-factor authentication and basically remove the risk of losing your money due to the password being hacked, though it is still not good if it gets stolen, of course. With desktop wallets you alone bear the full responsibility for the safety and security of your funds. In my view, many people would love to share this responsibility with someone else. They simply don't want to be their own masters.

This is what I am using to even though I tried using xapo I am not satisfied with my experience in xapo because it annoys me with the timer.

But I do get my transactions in Xapo to be processed within one or two minutes itself. When I am sending out more than 0.01 bitcoins, I believe they are getting processed immediately because I have checked the transaction ids, sometimes it contains only my transaction.
If you really do not care about paying tx fees, then switching over from Xapo really not a big thing to you.

There are some differences between them. Xapo won't allow users to access their private keys - so you can't store local copy of your wallet at all - if one day Xapo will disappear your money are gone.
Blockchain.info allows you to copy private keys and they are open-source project so you can verify their code yourself. And I would rather have non intrusive wallet like Blockchain, that one that is spying on me like Xapo.

The Blockchain wallet is very like your desktop wallet with the primary difference being that it runs in your browser and you don't have to download the blockchain itself, or some part of it, to your computer.

A relevant part from the Blockchain wallet FAQ:

Quote
What information do you store about my wallet

    Wallet identifier
    Shared Key
    Time the wallet was created
    Time the wallet was updated
Time the wallet was last accessed
    Encrypted JSON wallet data
Wallet alias - Optional short link if set by the user
Notifications email - Optional if you want to receive transaction notifications by email

Your bitcoin keys are stored encrypted on your computer and backed up on the Blockchain servers. Since the keys are encrypted in the browser itself, hacking the Blockchain servers won't be enough to steal your money.

Comparing blockchain and xapo's 2-way authentication. Blockchain's confirmation through email is easier than xapo.

Because xapo's confirmation through your phone is sometimes not reliable and fast because I have experienced delay with it.

That's why I stopped using them anymore and there is no way to get your account confirmed through email or some alternative.

I don't quite understand the purpose of 2FA in the blockchain.info wallet. If someone gets access to your computer and already has a password to your wallet, which is assumed if he ever gets to this step, how the two factor authentication can help secure your funds at all? The intruder can just take your keys which are stored locally, decrypt them using the wallet password, and then transfer all the money kept in that wallet to his own wallet.

Anyone care to explain?

That is just created to prevent accessing of an account from other places. And may I know how was that person will get your wallets password unless you will give it someone that you are trusting. So, the most possible way of accessing someones account is by just getting your full information and passwords. I find blockchain's email 2FA helpful.

I don't think so they do have this, if you want to contact the support of them just simply contact them by means of their email support and chat support like in xapo. I used to contact the support of blockchain.info when I experienced some troubles regarding my balance so they tried to help me out by giving some points and tutorials.

In this moment Xapo is safest one as you can see here :

They save more the 85% of coins in cold storage in swiss military bunkers splitted on different continents. Means your private key will be splitted too for different continents.
As seen here :

https://qz.com/1103310/photos-the-secret-swiss-mountain-bunker-where-millionaires-stash-their-bitcoins/

If Governement, police or thiefes comes to your house they can stole your printed cold storage private keys  and in Xapo this is too much harder to happen . So physicly Xapo security is much higher and online is similar or pretty higher because regarding website Xapo rented a methereological Satelitte and  is using it as alarm to check if website is under silent attack one day ...

Well that said, the disadvantages of Xapos are only for those whose those Bitcoins are not clan or the money they are using to upload Xapo to buy Bitcoins is from suspicious source or if you dont identify your self on  properlyand honest way, trying to openning different accounts  with fake ids and things like that  then they can seize your freeze your account until you identify your self clearly and honestly!

I can hide my paper wallets everywhere I want, and there isn't even a single chance of anyone finding out where they are. I could even write down my private keys in several parts, where each part is hidden in a different place -- believe me, no one will ever find it, even if I voluntarily allow the police to search my entire house. ;) Other than that, I don't care how secure Xapo's location is where they store people's coins -- main point of importance is that you are no longer the sole owner of your private keys, and that's the biggest negative aspect that there is. No matter how much nonsense you come up with in your post, there is no point into making people believe that storing coins in Xapo's service is better than your own cold storage forms....

In this moment Xapo is safest one
I'm considering them as the safest but I'm a practical person. Their fees are even higher than electrum which is also a good wallet but if I'm going to choose, I would prefer the cheapest one and that is blockchain.info. They are also trusted and one of the most popular web wallet that I can trust with but I'm not going to let all my bitcoins stay there.

There is a danger of hearthquake, floods, fire incidents and other natural disaster that can took your bitcoin Forever. Also your enemys can apply torture on you to reve al your papers location, luckly you Will survivor, In my case they Will have to kill me because i dont know mypasswords.

Well after all this Security, coldstorage bunkers, and space satellite surveillance,  its true we dont own the private Key, but at least we know the Xapo owner. Wences Casares is just one of the PayPal directors and a well know high tech entrepeneur in silicone valey.

Who os Electrum wallet owner? Trust for trust i Will trust on Trezor and Mycellium to spend however once again you Will need a paper wallet that could BE Stolled, wiped in water floods or burned in fires or destroyed um hurricanes or earthquakes...

Xapo owner is a well know entrepeneur in silicone valey and  one of PayPal directors. We dont own the private keys but  know to who we are trusting it.

Well its expensive but Security have a price. I never heard before about Electrum wallet to have bunkers spread around different continents to store 85% of coins on coldstorage and a satéllite to do surveillance to website.

Security is the most invested thing in this world that probably the reason why xapo's fee are increased and will never change and go back to the lower ones. I'm into security but it's still better to have the private keys, you know what I mean that we have to hold it. He may be a well known entrepreneur but still it's a normal thing that you need to have the private keys of your bitcoin wallet.

Who os Electrum wallet owner?

Yeah once again i believe that regular  people dont have conditions to hold on home a paper wallet with reviver seed for his Trezor device encrypting 100 thousand to half millions dollars bitcoin, because this Will BE the Next price on comming years.
Terrorists, thiefes, robbers, hurricanes, floods, fireing , kidnap, torture, extorsion, governments, authorities...wow so many things average persons cant control....

Well for this Xapo works fine and they give you opportunity to send to a Fiat internal wallet on the currency you wish, if bitcoin prices reach to a point you consider Good . On other wallets you need to send coins to a exchange and this take time..and on crypto time os money..

xapo is good but blockchain is better

Probably yes, Xapo is the good kind of wallet ( but like you said ) Blockchain is much better than Xapo because it's secure.

I would go for the Blockchain because its more secure and also way more trusted than than the other wallet of these days to be honest.
I'm also using blockchain.info for my bitcoin , and yes that is good wallet because its the best for the online wallet and there are 2FA authentication to secure our bitcoin.

Are you sure that the blockchain.info wallet is more secure than Xapo? Blockchain.info is a hybrid wallet, and the keys from your wallet can be stolen from your desktop as well as easily intercepted in the network when you send them to the server. It is known as the man in the middle attack, and it had been done before via malicious tor exit nodes which deciphered the encrypted keys to the blockchain.info wallets, and then their operators stole the coins from these wallets.

For me Blockchain better than Xapo because Blockchain stores encrypted files on its servers as a backup, When you log into a Blockchain wallet, the wallet fetches that file and decrypts it. It means that Blockchain is immune to hacker attacks and can’t take transaction fees. while Xapo is younger than Blockchain tharefore Blockchain is better for me ;)

Yes I agree, I think blockchain is the first choice of web wallet, the simplest features and the cheapest transaction cost being my consideration that will continue to use web wallet from blockchain.

I know about block chain implementations in real world, such as real estate purchasing data being stored in open source block chain environment, is there a way to use xapo in the similar way? Or is it just the alternative to block chain wallet system?

Yes me also i choose blockchain wallet than xapo, before i love to used xapo wallet when there is no update on their system but when time come transaction fees are getting sucks it was too high that is the start many people are withdrawing their fund in that wallet and never used it again. But over all blockchain for me as my alternative bitcoin wallet

Both xapo and blockchain wallet are safe, secure and will get the job done in most cases. I also agree blockchain does have more security features when compared to xapo.

Also, Blockchain provides you with an options to choose your own transaction fee but XAPO doesn't provide this option.

You are talking about the blockchain network and this thread is not intended to discuss about that thing.

is there a way to use xapo in the similar way?

Yes, xapo also uses blockchain technology if you want to inline your post about the network.

Or is it just the alternative to block chain wallet system?

"Xapo or blockchain", this thread is merely talking about the blockchain.info web wallet.

If we talk  about the security of both of them then I think both of them are very secure.. I am using both of them from an year and I do not have faced any issue from them while if we talk about the expenditure then I will suggest for to use blockchain because the fees of blockchain is very low and you can set your own fees while xapo has a high fees.

I'm checking that feature from time to time and it's totally low but I tried to transact with that fee and it's effective though it's very low. It's still better to rely with blockchain.info's recommended fee if you don't want to get any headache.

Both party are safe and secured, but, you cannot really say that it is a good storage if you put huge amount of crypto currency since that web wallet sites knows your informations . there are known whales in the industry of crypto/digital currency who doesn't use web wallets they prefer desktop wallet, own private keys and very own wallet.

Xapo and blockhain supports many web wallets, they are really safe but don't let your guard down.

both is just as good and secure, but if you want a full control of your bitcoin (signing message, etc) you need to use blockchain,
but for transactional, just use xapo  ;D

We do have the same opinion here about between two wallet and if we do try to compare the fees then i would really go for blockchain since we can able to set dynamic fees regarding or depending on our needs on how long it would be confirmed. On what i am doing when i do see that the network isnt congested i do set only small fees lower than on the amounts suggested just to save up more satoshis on such transfer.I dont bother on the confirmation because it wont really took so long since network isnt too traffic and im sure that transactions would really be broadcasted easily.

there are known whales in the industry of crypto/digital currency who doesn't use web wallets they prefer desktop wallet, own private keys and very own wallet.

It has not much to do with just whales, a lot people here sit on a potentially very valuable amount of coins. Everyone with a properly functioning brain and common sense knows that everything depending on a third party is something you should avoid if you care about your coins. In some cases there is no way to avoid using centralized services, like an exchange you do your trading on, but that's just a temporary practice. Most people nowadays have seen the importance of having a proper form of cold (offline) storage, which is why hardware wallets are in extreme demand right now. Funds at all times should remain disconnected from the internet, so even a desktop client isn't enough.
