Just learned about bitcoin and am fascinated...

Anxious to learn about it.

What's the best RSS feed I should subscribe to... to read all the best news about bitcoin?

( As a sidebar:  To the moderators of this forum: How do you keep spambots out of your SMF forum!? I ran one once and disbanded it because of the constant fighting the spambots. )

Hi Bruce, welcome.

This forum is the best place to hear first about new merchants and such. I just set up a google alert for bitcoin too, I had been checking search results frequently, the alert should be more efficient I think.

Funny thing about this post is that it could be sent to just about pretty much any kind of internet project's forum.  Just have to copy your message and replace "bitcoin" by the project name.

Two hypothesis :

1. you are not a human being, but a spambot.  The fact that you mention spambots might be a way for you to get some information about how admins fight against you.  Then your human designer will be able to fool them better.

2. you're gay.  Posting a first message and saying "Hi.  Just wanted to introduce myself", sounds like a hyper-social behavior, very characteristic of gay community.  Plus, you announce you live in New-York (as if anybody cares) where those people are not rare, and your signature is a weird "Bruce & Ed", which is difficult not to understand as a way to express that you live with an other man.

So, which is it ? :)

Looks like a real person who has a form letter introduction for self/site/career promotion. I think it means he doesn't really love us, so don't get your hopes up guys.

Oh snap! He even mentions keeping spambots out. It's over, machines win.

I guess the more this forum gets popular and have an important number of members, the more spambot designers get interested in publishing there.

What a way to draw conclusions about people, and whether true or not if he's gay, what business is it of yours? What a way to greet a new member - confront him about his sexual orientation.

This guy has been discussing Bitcoin on twitter for days. He hosts a talkshow. He's not a bot.

Bruce is here because Ive been speaking to him on twitter about bitcoin. Sorry for such a rude introduction Bruce from a fellow bitcoin user I assure you that is not the normal sort of behaviour around here.

Just don't take it too seriously :)  Also, if someone is very interested in an internet project, I doubt such a bad welcome could prevent him from getting more involved.

It's easy to mass-remove accounts that are older than a few weeks, have 0 posts and mention a website in the user details. Post spammers are more annoying, but usually catch the admin's attention even quicker.

This guy *really* just wanted to introduce himself.  I mean, that's the only message he posted !  He really just wanted to do that.

I think this thread was my first post.... yes.   

However, I've been very busy reading and posting all over this forum since then... as you can see if you click on my Profile.

In fact, I was so busy reading and posting elsewhere, that I never made it back to this thread until NOW.

I have to say...  It really made me Laugh Out Loud.   Literally.

Yes, you are correct on both counts.   I AM a spambot.   And I AM gay.   I am a gay spambot.   I hope don't have anything against gays or spambots.   ;)

However, I am very intelligent, as far as spambots go...  SO you might never even realize that I am not human.    We'll see.

I'm probably the first spambot who is capable of simulating live video conversation via Skype. 

Anyway, don't anyone be concerned.   I am not offended in the least.    It was very funny to read all this tho....  LOL

I feel that when some Newbie rolls into town, out of the blue, with a zillion dumb questions.... without first introducing himself to "the community"..., it's slightly rude.   Call me old-fashioned.   Call me human.  (in spite of me actually being a spambot).     So I introduce myself politely.     I even have a fake picture of myself to add to the illusion.  ;)

I had the same problem with a phpBB forum I run, until I added a custom field to the registration form.  That appears to have completely solved the problem.
