Title: Mix matched cards ok?
Post by: -droid- on August 20, 2016, 01:54:44 AM
I've got a rig with 4gb 470's and want to add an 8gb 470..

Would this be okay? I assume over clocking would be sort of a pain right?

Same thing with another rig of 8gb 480's.. Would adding an 8gb 470 be good to go?

It's fine, both me and my neighbor have mixed rigs of 470's and 480's.
You can adjust them individually in wattman.

rule of thumb is that the same series can play toether nice and usually share a driver (ie: mixing 270 with 290 cards, or 380 and 390 cards)

I have the HD 7970 and the R9 390 in the same rig. They are working fine together. But they are using the Claymore miners.

I know it works but I'm having issues getting the 470 I am adding to detect on a 4 card rig of reference 480's. Tried uninstalling drivers and reinstalling after connecting the new 470 but It shows up as "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter".

Maybe you can swap the cards and the slots.

You may also change the PCIE generation to generation 1 instead of auto detect.
