Title: what new computer/VC should i buy that will be efficient for mining/work?
Post by: identity42 on March 26, 2013, 09:47:55 PM
i am a newbie but i have potential to grow quickly. i manage a firm that houses a new server and about 27 computers. and we get new computers pretty often and i am in charge of ordering them and i can choose which type of computer and video card to get. i want some advice on what kind of computer and video card you think i should look into getting for my next computer/video card set up that will be not too expensive but will be able to mine at a high rate while being able to to be worked on and have 2 monitors hooked up at the same time too.

thank you for your help

From lurking, I believe we've reached the point where quite soon GPU won't be worthwhile at all. They have been surpassed by FPGA and now ASIC; the impact of those technologies' far greater hash rates will drive difficulty up. Of course GPU mining will still be possible, but due to the increased difficulty, it'll take a lot longer to mine coins with GPUs - and it's probably the case that the coins a GPU generates will be worth less in total than the electricity used. You would just lose money.

People keep saying ASIC this and that, but either you spend a ton of money and wait, or get a GPU and mine today.  I hear the 7970 is great for Litecoin.
