I've been out of touch for a while. Anyway, I have a new computer with a fancy 4 core CPU and I would like to get into the mining business again. So my question is, what's the best CPU miner? Assuming that it's going to be used in Slush's pool. I should mention, I'm using Ubuntu 12.04. (I'm just going to be experimenting at this stage, to see if the economics are worth it. I'll see what I can generate over a month, and compare against electricity usage. If it doesn't work out, obviously I'll quit it.) Thanks. Thanks. pointless mining with cpu any more think you need to go read on what the latest is and hardware changes only mine cpu if you have lots of them ie free computers and can produce a lot of hash power or no point in it any more. Title: Re: Best CPU miner (for mining pools) Post by: ssateneth on March 27, 2013, 10:28:42 AM The best desktop cpu out there is probably 40 mhash, about 0.09 BTC generated over the course of 30 days if you mine 24/7. 130 watts over those 30 days at 15 cents/KhW is $11.28.

What is the best software? I wish to confirm for myself whether or not it is viable for myself. I don't need lectures about how it is uneconomic etc. I understand what you are saying, people where saying the same thing two years ago. Regardless, I am still interested in just seeing what my current computer can do. So, any advice on the best CPU miner? Must run on Ubuntu 12.04, and be able to connect to a pool (probably slush's). Link him something for BTC Actually the modified cpuminer can still mine BTC, just add -a sha256d to the command switches: Code: Usage: minerd [OPTIONS] Mining BTC with CPU can still be useful in specific cases, I guess. Mining rewards may be collected by someone not bearing the power costs, but I can't see how it could outweigh these costs globally. Under a budget with an older PC (low end PSU) Radeon 6570, 5570, those cards can be found for less than 60$ They hash between 50Mhash to 100Mhash Higher end PC Radeon 5850, 6950's are great cards. You might find them for 100 to 150$ They hash around 350Mhash Your CPU might hash at 1 to 10Mhash. With the Asics coming out, it's getting slower and slower even on mining at 1Ghash. (Probably 1.1 coin per 2 weeks) |
