Title: [2016-08-23] State of Florida Appeals “Bitcoin is Not Money” Verdict
Post by: hendra147 on August 23, 2016, 12:57:29 PM
A local Florida Bitcoin seller recently saw all charges against him dismissed by a judge. That seemed rather strange, considering Michell Espinoza was under investigation for money laundering and unlicensed money transmission. However, the judge ruled. Bitcoin is not money. The state of Florida is now appealing that decision, and this case will drag on for quite some time.

Back in 2014, when Espinoza was arrested for money laundering and unlicensed money transmission using Bitcoin, the charges seemed pretty solid. Unfortunately for the government, the outcome was very different from what they had hoped. Judge Teresa Mary Pooler ruled Bitcoin is not money. Hence Espinoza did nothing illegal by definition of the law.

You can bet there are lots of folks watching this one.  I have friends that are talking about this case because Bitcoin seems really confusing to the general population.  There are several of us that are sort of afraid to sell face to face due to the confusion over whether you need a license or not.  Its not exactly scary, but more just confusing and uncertain.

the charges were vaguely written & She did not want to send a potentially innocent man to jail for a crime that is subject to more questions than answers.

well it is good for him but i think that they abuse when saying bitcoin isn't money...it is a money that you can feel it but you cannot touch it

But really, bitcoin is money. It can be used to pay for goods and services.
