Title: Someone is dumping coins en masse
Post by: yuvadm on March 28, 2013, 09:23:26 PM
Very peculiar behavior right now on teh gox.
Coins are being dumped en masse, and always in sync with serious trade engine lag.

Probably the dumping that's causing the lag...

It's no mystery: when Gox lags, bulls are reluctant to buy because Gox could go kaput. Bears are prompted to sell because they might not be able to until the drop has bottomed out.

Basically Gox delay is a bearish development, because it means that the main exchange sucks just a little more than everyone thought.

meanwhile, I get fiat on other exchanges ready to buy out the dip. lets see how deep this one goes... 15% so far.

It sucks exactly as much as I thought, which is why I like to be prepared to buy elsewhere when it dips.

So let me get this straight...

Gox lag is created by sell orders being unsatisfiable? Or by malicious users exploiting gox's engine?

Feel sorry for them, they could own the world, but they are limited by their short sighted view. Good to have these kind of people shake out before we move along  ;)

No.  Gox lag is caused by large volume.  Their setup is not engineered properly to handle so much traffic.  Nothing broken, nothing malicious, just a system design that can't possibly handle the load.  There is supposedly a update to the trading engine that will help, but it is still in testing.  In the mean time, there are plenty of other places to buy and sell bitcoin.

This has happened several times before. It will probably happen again. No need to worry.

Agreed, just don't put in auto sell order on Gox. Back when it was dumping a month ago I put an auto sell order in at $46 and it didn't execute until $33.... the bottom :(

Same guy that called a crash 8 Hours ahead with some exchange beeing outlawed. Did not happen. Big Phat Phoney.

77 at coinbase. you can't buy at that price or any price now, though.

Personally I'd sell some and keep some if I had any. If they do fall to somthing like $50 I shall definitely be buying some.

mtgox does suck

There are lots of other options, I suggest you look around.  I've been mtgox free for over a year and couldn't be happier with my setup for buying and selling coins.

That's the first time I've ever pressed the ignore button.

And it's made this thread 100x better.

Bitcoin is getting very resistant to this pump and dump. I wonder at what price they will try it again?

Looks like the drop was planned, together with an attempted DDoS of Gox (and other exchanges).

The way BitcoinTip is behaving, wouldn't surprise me if he was in on it. I hope Gox track him down and press charges if so. Nothing more annoying than script kiddie trolls on a power trip.

Anyway, that said; I made a bit of cash of the bounce.... but really, everyone should just ignore this shit.

This kind of flash crash and recover will bring up a habbit of always hang a big buy order 15% below the current price so that it can catch the flash crash when people are away

It was a nice chance to buy at $80; probably last chance until autumn. Some idiots spent that chance running around crying WE ARE DOOMED, well that's why they are village idiots.
