Title: Official bitcoin logo
Post by: hopenotlate on September 01, 2016, 10:00:58 AM
Don't know if it's the right section to post but: am planning to have a Bitcoin logo ( beside a waves one) printed on a new surfboard am having shaped at the moment but am not sure if there is an "official" logo and which on is it.
Here are a couple of images I like but would like to hear community opinions on this.

Thanks in advance for your help

There isn't an official one. Pick the one you like best.

No.1 should be the official one, bitcointalk browser logo is using this one as well. I also prefer No.1 logo

As far as I know, there is no official bitcoin logo. So you are free to create yours or choose anything available in the market. There is no central authority to control the bitcoin hence there is no central server or central anything.

You are free to create any logo you want. However, would love to see your creation here.

I'm well aware about the bolded statement, my bad I badworded my post: when I wrote official I meant if there is one unuversally recognized as Bitcoin logo.

Thanks for taking the time to answer here   :)

I suggest you to pick the second one. I think it is more appropriate for a surfboard. The color is simple and solid unlike the first one, it has some blended color or gradient. Aside from being difficult to print out, it will look old in a short time because the colors used are pale.
The second one is also suited with the current trend: minimalism and metro.

 ???

I thought the second one was the most used/diffused : if I browse bitcoin.org ( guess it the site you were referring to when wrote "bitcoin official site") on top left of main page  this image is displayed

there is as others have said no official logo

all that matters is the BTC,. how its decorated does not matter.

most people treat the 2 images in OP as the 'main' ones because they are the ones used most.

this has nothing to do with being official, but more to do with people not being creative/inspired to make something themselves. feel free to design your own logo. try to make it surfing/sport/water related to atleast become a surfing brand for bitcoin

EG water is blue, so

I don't know either if there is a official logo for bitcoin. But if I'm going to pick in this two, I will choose the first one. Because when I started in bitcoin the first logo was the one I remembered if I'm not mistaken.

I prefer 1) but 2) is the one used on bitcoin.org. Use the logo which you think will be the best for your surfboard. As other people have posted, there is no official logo.

i think there's no copyright limitation,as i can see the images is freely being used by everyone even in blog, forum,or etc,so it will be fine
and by seeing that bitcoin giving us freedoom i guess so does with those logo
but if someone just make an unique logo about bitcoin and just have the right of owning,i think it's a different case

Maybe those two are the most known and used logo, but you can still make your own depending on your needs. As long as the BTC symbol is there, people who knows bitcoin will surely recognized it. I think there will be no problem. Good luck to you

I guess the two logos are correct as I often see them both. The first one is the logo of the actual coin I mean the actual image of the coin.  The second logo is use for the advertisement like that.  I am not good in explaining but it is like that.  These are the two logos of bitcoin.

Bitcoin has no official 'logo' just a various symbols which people associate with Bitcoin.

This symbol : http://bitcoinsymbol.org is one of the best I have seen but Bitcoin is a free open source project create a symbol for you see fit or use one of them out in the Bitcoin realm.

If I created a new symbol and blasted it across the Internet and locally people would associate that symbol with Bitcoin and discredit any other symbol but people just need to be educated to see what Bitcoin actually is and not just a symbol.

This doesn't seems even close to the bitcoin symbol which is in the forum BTC. Since there is no official bitcoin logo, I would go with the second one, it is more friendly and only few colors comparing with the first one which looks too old.

you should only choose the one that you like and more important is that you should choose the one that will look good when printed on a surfboard!

if you want my opinion, I'd say go with the second choice, the orange one and maybe edit it a little bit and add some 3d effect to the BTC to make it look better.

the main question by OP is which one is the official logo and neither is official,it's not about selecting which is best for a website or whatelse

the bitcoin could be unique depend on designer's creativity as long there's BTC sign in it,so it's fine

I pick number 2. It is much simpler and much older.

Number 1 does not look nice when you scale it smaller.

Thanks everybody for your inputs .
Your comments helped me to narrow down the field of possible choices.

I agree pick the one that looks the best but its a surf board and its big, so maybe you could do a mosaic blend of lots of small different bitcoin logos all mashed up like tiles

This is something that I had considered but after a quick whatsapp convo with shaper I had to fold.
Thanks

Here are some comments that really hit me more than others and are addressing me towards my target:

is anyone able to make an example of a 3D effect on the BTC symbol?

Taking in consideration board will be almost completely white except for the nose where I will put a wave logo (wave intended as cryptocurrency) either because I'm tinly invested in waves project and above all for the two-way meanings of waves in this case.
Orange or blue people?

Well, agree with you in some way but you 're pushing it to far for this pratical application: I want to spread bitcoin awareness amongst local surfer community and everybody else will see it on my board. They might ge curious and ask something like "what the f**k is that pic under your board" and the discussion may begin.

But what I think it's important for this purpose is that bitcoin logo I'm using  is widely recognizable...then people may "be educated to see what Bitcoin actually is" as you correctly stated.

Understood bud. I suppose the symbol which is used commonly now was the first 'logo' used by Satoshi so has more relation to the Bitcoin and is more wide spread.

Make sure you post a picture of your board when its finished!

Okay, judging the logos by itself alone, I honestly like the second one better. However, if you're going to be using that for your surfboard, well, I don't know. Depends on how it would blend in your board because they would both be eye-catchy enough. However, I would prefer you use the 2nd one since that logo is a lot more popular than the first one.

Title: Re: Official bitcoin logo
Post by: yayayo on September 01, 2016, 04:16:02 PM
An official Bitcoin logo does not exist. I think closest to being the "most official" logo are the ones used at bitcoin.org and for Bitcoin Core. As you might have noticed, there is majority support for the "B" with two double whiskers, however orientation and background of the logo varies considerably.

In the past there were also different suggestions for the "B" design, the most prominent one being a "B" with a horizontal stroke at the low left side. However none of these different designs became widely used.

I suggest you use the B with whiskers and choose the coin design that best fits your surfboard. Of course it could also be the orange one, riding on some blue waves... :D

ya.ya.yo!

Post by: pereira4 on September 01, 2016, 04:33:54 PM
If there is an official one, then it has to be the second one, the orange plain one. It's the one that Bitcoin Core uses in the system tray for an icon and for the desktop shortcut icon, so it doesn't get more official than that.

Also, it looks better than the first one. It looks slicker and less bloated with too many shades of colors.

I do a quick stroll and I think no one did this before, so... sorry if I said something that's turns out already stated before.

I do a google "bitcoin logo official" and it brings this page to me https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Promotional_graphics
According to them, the second image(the orange) is designed by bitboy (I think I read his name a few times on this forum) and widely recognized as btc logo while the first one (the gold coin) is designed by satoshi nakamoto. So if you ask which one is official, then I'll say it is the first one as it is designed by satoshi nakamoto himself

Hi there. I'm still sticking to my first pick, the orange one.
Sorry guys this is only my opinion. The blue one won't be noticeable in the beach because the water is already blue!
Orange is like the original color of bitcoin. Once I see an orange letter B, I already know it is bitcoin.  ;D

Shaper just suggested me not to go too detailed with particulars and colours also considering the deterioration that will suffer (either the picture and the overall white colour of board material) over time due to exposure to the sun.

Unfortunately same exact considerations are valid for this other really really cool idea

feel free to be creative and think of where/what the logo is going to be used.

also thanks for taking the time of sharing some 3D examples

Out of those 2 logos, I like the orange one better since I'm kind of tired of seeing that first one and the resolution doesn't seem that great.

Not going to repeat that the idea of an 'official' logo is kinda silly, it has been mentioned enough.
Just giving my opinion on the logos themselves.

It is a really good design, IMO, not only it has the bitcoin design, but also has a hidden message from the image of the moon and the shape of the board (that bitcoin will rocketing to the moon). I don't know about surfing stuff, but will it be compatible and applicable to perform just like the other board? I mean, I think the shape is a little bit different

i have no experience in surfing stuff either (sadly) but i did some research and found some cool pictures of surfing boards and the drawings on them.
so this is supposed to be the top surface of the board where you stand on.

p.s. i added the moon just for fun, but it looks a little out of place IMO :D

The second logo was used mostly on many wapsites and videos and i also love that one because it is simple and easly seen everywhere

to me the 1st one is the appropriate, as i have seen the 1st one for so many time in different place, therefore i will like to pick the 1st one, still i have no clear idea and i think still no one declear a specific one but people are using mostly these two.

Haha, there are  lots of different opinions on which logo is the best - maybe you should setup a poll and let us decide for you =) I also like the ETH logo - that would look awesome on a surfboard

I think the orange one is more recognisable than the 1st one.  it just stands out more.  ;)
