Don't know how many Africans involved in bitcoin revolution, getting close would help create solutions using blockchain and cryptocurrency

Some colleagues and I actually had a discussion about something similar.

In Africa there is a Bitcoin Moroccan community and in south africa they have a annual summit "Blockchain Africa Conference" including bitcoin panel

There is a huge number of people in Africa using Bitcoin.

Yes, since is from a uniques solutons to buy online. Including perfectmoney, and other offshore banks.

I always did wonder if Africa had a large enough BTC market to sustain something like this, it's something I'd definitley be interested i.

From the flow of traffic here you now know that Africa doesn't have that bitcoin community yet that can sustain the growth of bitcoin interest. Not just yet.

The most notable bitcoin communities in Africa are in Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Kenya and Zimbabwe. There you can find startups and a relatively active bitcoin market. Having said that, they are still small scale compared to more established bitcoin economies.

The low internet penetration is the biggest hindrance for large scale bitcoin adoption in Africa in my view.

Indeed, my friend! The bitcoin is everywhere in the world. People are using bitcoins to buy stuff from every corner of the world :D

There is a growing awareness of bitcoin in Nigeria. Being the most populous African nation, this growth will impact significantly on the usage of bitcoin in Africa.

Bitcoin is a virtual currency, all information about the user appears to be completely secure, so we can not investigate any information about the number of bitcoin users. Security is an advantage, but it is also a barrier to bitcoin, many fraudsters have exploited bitcoin to cheat people. I think Africa is a little under development, where it is too poor, I think the number of bitcoin users will be very small.

The rave for Bitcoin is virtually not present in the Africa continent, at least not yet. The awareness is really poor in our continent, Africa. Most people are yet to key into what Bitcoin is and how it works unlike what happens in Europe where many people have this knowledge. Well, I guess that lack of knowledge in Africa has to do with the low access rate to the Internet. May be, just maybe, one day Africa will catch up with the rest if the world.

Bitcoin awareness in Africa is nothing to write about Except some few individuals that has tap in and keyed into how to tap into the benefits attached to bitcoin, The most noticeable disadvantage of africa getting information about bitcoin is due to epileptic power supply, high cost of internet access and low purchasing power in some countries therefore bitcoin awareness had been very low unlike other foreign countries.

Africa is not there yet but will be there someday. Though still battling with poverty, epileptic power supply, low Internet penetration and the likes, I still believe that proper and speedy awareness on the opportunities that Bitcoin and Blockchain technology hold for humanity will accelerate the adoption and usage of Bitcoin across African continent. This therefore, presents opportunities for early users of Bitcoin from Africa to spread the good news and come up with life-changing Blockchain based projects to serve African market.

Africa is  lacking behind a lot,let hope that in the near future they will catch up, thanks to the internet that ,made  the world a global village hope when the whales (in fiat) in Africa start investing in cryptocurrency the acceptance will be increase. The world has decide cryptocurrency is the  way to go, Africa must follow suit,

Yes, Africa cannot afford to continue lagging behind in the digital economy driven twenty first century. Blockchain is changing virtually every industry and the time to embrace this revolution is now. Africa, arise!

I think the satellite network from Blockstream will help a lot the people from Africa to transac Bitcoins.

Bitcoins is being used in Africa among youths most especially students in higher institutions of learning. Many people out have not really keyed into Bitcoin world, but i think it is gradually gaining popularity day by day. A case study is Nigeria.

i don't understand what you mean by Africa is lacking behind for i don't believe you can substantiate your submission here that Africa is lacking behind. There are substantial numbers of African who have invested a huge amount of money in crypto currency. 

I always wondered how many African's were really involved with crypto currency in general. I will keep an eye on this thread.

With the introduction of Blockchain Technology and the enlightenment  about Bitcoin, many people in Africa especially in Nigeria have come to embrace Bitcoin. Not only getting the awareness, but also getting other to come to the knowledge of digital currency, where a lots of investment and trading can enhance  and add value to their pursuit and life goals. Seminars are held in most  and various part of the states so as to create a wider knowledge  of Bitcoin. Great turnout of members  to this seminars points to the facts that many people are becoming aware of bitcoin, accepting it, and also inviting a lot of others in Africa to be part of  this digital currency called Bitcoin as well.

Africa is a great place with a growing crypto community

There is a growing interest in bitcoin in Africa. Im my country Uganda, i have many "bitcoin buddies".

So, we should organise a continental meet up, why not?

I travel to Rwanda semi-frequently, and would definitely be interested in meeting people in the area.  I don't specifically look for cryptocurrency events/people normally when traveling, but would definitely be interested in meeting some central African crypto enthusiasts!

It will be great if Africa embrace Bitcoin and blockchain technology, but I'm a bit worried about the internet infrastructure of the africa states.

Some governments are implementing private blockchains for various purposes... Regarding cryptocurrencies for public - i dont know any.  Why not just stick to BTC, ETH etc?
I dont see much use in 100s of various altcoins... its comfortable to work with a few major ones.

There's kobocoin, prosperipro both not very good projects.. Then there is humaniq(not originally from Africa but Africa is their focus. Humaniq is probably the only project worth looking at.

There are many Africans that are involved in Bitcoin, I am an African from Nigeria and I have been doing some met up lately with other Bitcoin Enthusiasts in the country.

Infact, there is a large community of Nigerians and Africans on Steemit.com. Many Africans are waking up to the possibilities and opportunities that are attached to Bitcoin

It is true Bitcoin uptake in Africa is very poor but slowly grounds are shifting. For instance, this end month 30/11/2017 me and my partners at Coinweez we organizing a Bitcoin Meet Up in Nairobi-Kenya to try and create crypto awareness especially Bitcoin. The interest is amazing and blowing cant wait.

Kenya is an amazing area for bitcoin adoption.
Great balance between developed infrastructure and massive unbanked population

Sure I agree lots of opportunities available in Africa for cryptocurrency adoption in Kenya for instance, sorting out house problems for low income earners, access of credit among SMEs, data insights for SMEs too this is a problem even in Africa at large among so many other issues need solution via tokenization

It's also a very interesting market because of the disproportionate mobile usage.
High rates of mobile devices even amongst the poorest.
The right solution could really take advantage of that.

Even by the fact that mobile money transfer is very expensive a disruption of the industry via crypto would be beneficial to the poor. Some company using blockchain technology tried to rival leading mobile money firm but they ended up being 'shipped' by the same 'monopoly' company over infrastructure issues. But the idea of money transfer would really to be simple because of low penetration of internet and mobile phone devices not to mention literacy rates in the country I guess across africa!

There are so many Africans here in this forum and crypto currency is a global currency without boundary, just that the awareness has not gone so much wide on the importance of bitcoin or crypto currency that many shopping store will start accepting it as a mode of payment.
There are mining company here in Africa though not a large scale. 

Sure Africa is rising there is SmartCash already and another one underway by the group known as Bits by Bitsoko (which is Kenyan)

there are too many using bitcoin in Africa

Recently the crisis in Zimbabwe have increased the focus of the country towards cryptos. In Zimbabwe, Bitcoin is being traded at premium and about double the international price due to recent military takeover. Africa lacks bank accounts and has many countries with falling economy, in such a situation Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies are like savior. Use of cryptocurrencies have increased a lot in Africa and it is safe heaven to people who don't believe in their governments either because of corruption or inefficiency.

I believe most Africans are getting involve in bitcoin revolution, and some countries in africa are hosting conferences creating awareness among Africans.

sure if the crypto currency is able to grow properly there ,,
maybe poverty in Africa will decrease little by little,
but the technological backwardness factor is one of the obstacles there for them to learn the digital world

I can tell you with virtue of no doubt that bitcoin revolution are increasing day by day, am from one of this African countries and I don't know if you will believe it when I tell you that campaigns for trading bitcoin are made on medias that are even government owned. So revolution is happening in a big way in African countries.

Where are you from my friend? Worried similar to my country some of these media campaigns are scams taking people hard earned money like asking for registration fee to join or have bitcoin  ;D which they dont even show you or even a case of being guaranteed some amount of return after a certain period all these are scam alerts. I just saw one project that also has an eye for African - Asia market. Especially in the commodity (ie palm oil, cotton, rice, cocoa... ) trading field.

Bitcoin is widely accepted in Africa because of high ROI. In fact, in South Africa, people are swapping their cars and other high value items in exchange for Bitcoin as per Gumtree, an online classifieds sites.

The introduction of the blockchain system and bitcoin in different spheres of African life will finally overcome that barrier to civilized life that has long stood before the inhabitants of the continent. People will finally be able to feel all the charms of the new technology from the convenience of making payments to removing administrative barriers when interacting with state and municipal authorities. So I believe, Africa will become a strong and prosperous continent with a digital economy and a promising future.

1. South Africa - Yes we hold rank 1  8)

It is getting quite huge in these 3 countries, growing really fast. Speaking for South Africa, I can go to any 15-35 year old that I know and ask them about bitcoin and they will either be invested in it or at least know of it.  Remember cryptocurrency will penetrate fastest in places where people do not have the best and most honest government.

I think we should start more meetups, growing our community in Africa will help this become more adopted and grow faster.  I actually just saw this sub-topic or whatever you can call it. We should figure out how to

some folks outside of Africa might think the crypto world is new and novel entirely to Africans. But this is far from the truth. More often than not, the exposure to information and proper education catalyses the growth of the bitcoin in Africa. And while the report says that the bitcoin is widely used in south Africa, the recent poll by independent sources actually find Nigeria and Kenya leading the park and then south Africa, volume for volume.
It is a good thing to see what the crypto world can bring to Africa and how this can influence lives positively
