Title: 2x 7970's, want to start mining, help?
Post by: jctusmc03 on March 29, 2013, 04:34:00 AM
Like the title says I have two 7970's and I want to start mining bitcoins. Whats the best mining software out there, and the best pool to work with? Help?

Best software - while not everybody will agree CGminer is probably the most commonly used software.  Guiminer is good if you don't have a clue how to get to DOS Prompt or work linux.

Best pool - again very subjective or everybody would be on only 1 of 3 pools.  Look at the Mining Pools subforum, the stick at the top lists the pools.  BTCGuild is the biggest and is pretty easy to use.  Other guilds have less fees and other nice features but may not be as reliable.

I'm using guiminer and I keep getting some error when starting a worker, it does the same on both 7970's.

On the bottom of the program interface where it gives you current information it's giving me an error: "pit.deepbit.net:8332 29/03/2013 14:51:56, "No JSON object could be decoded" / IO errors -1, tolerance 2.

What does this mean, and how can I fix it?

Edit: I get the same error when trying to mine with my 3770k, so I'm guessing it's a setting that's messed up somewhere...just not sure what.

go to bitminter.com, it's a pool and a JAVA miner, easiest to use. ;D

I don't use deepbit but I would double check the connection parameters they require you to use, could be a wrong port number or something
