Title: 25 / 40 Thousand dollar mining rig parts Post by: Coyn on September 04, 2016, 06:20:27 PM Hi there,
I Recently build 3 mining rigs with these components: - Asrock Anniversary H97 (5 cards per rig) - 4GB ddr3 - 120GB kingston ssd - 1000watt RM1000x crosair PSU - Intel Celeron G1840 - Sapphire RX480 Nitro+ 8GB (5x) The rigs are running on 135Mhash avg hashrate. About 27 per card (Undervolt & overclock in wattmann) and about 700-725 Watt at the wall. Since there is no custom bios available for the Nitro's yet, i can not tweak them any further without them getting unstable. (does anyone has a custom bios?) I want to go big, would you change the setup? - I will use 6 cards instead of 5 - RX 470 4gb/8gb? or the RX 480 4gb? (can buy the Nitro's 8gb for €299 and 4gb for €236) - Different PSU? - Which brand is the best? - Controlling them on one device from a distance? - Windows 10/8.1 or Linux? Thanks for helping me out, I appreciate all your opinions and I'm just here to learn before the investment. ;) Title: Re: 25 / 40 Thousand dollar mining rig parts Post by: klondike_bar_recovery on September 04, 2016, 08:33:35 PM the evga1300 is a great PSU and would only be 60-70% loaded under ethereum or 80-90% loaded if dualmining

and the 1300 evga only has two of that, then you need to use two 2+6 pin cable, so 4 in total instead of 3, i like to have less cables as a possible for a clean build Title: Re: 25 / 40 Thousand dollar mining rig parts Post by: klondike_bar_recovery on September 04, 2016, 09:32:01 PM i like the pig tail pcie cable(those that come with 2x 2+6 pin), so with one you can connect two gpu and the 1300 evga only has two of that, then you need to use two 2+6 pin cable, so 4 in total instead of 3, i like to have less cables as a possible for a clean build agreed. but i sell some wesome 1x6pin to 2x(6+2)pin splitters that can still keep your build clean and powered https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=563461.0 https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=http%3A%2F%2Fi63.tinypic.com%2F51rkzr.jpg&t=568&c=44lAYYvtpp7M6w Title: Re: 25 / 40 Thousand dollar mining rig parts Post by: QuintLeo on September 04, 2016, 11:03:33 PM i like the pig tail pcie cable(those that come with 2x 2+6 pin), so with one you can connect two gpu and the 1300 evga only has two of that, then you need to use two 2+6 pin cable, so 4 in total instead of 3, i like to have less cables as a possible for a clean build EVGA 1300 G2 has enough 6-pin leads to handle a 6-card rig. In my limited experience with 2 of them, it's a good PS and kinda overkill for a 6-card RX4xx rig. see if you can get g1840t 18 watts less and when you use a celeron they do tend to use more of the cpu if you find some g1840t's try one or two to see if you save 10 to 20 watts a build this one is pricy https://www.amazon.com/Intel-CM8064601482617-Celeron-G1820T-threads/dp/B00HLXXGCI this is the g1840 plain much cheaper http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Celeron-G1840-Dual-core-2-Core-2-80-GHz-Processor-Socket-H3-LGA-1150-/291185785844? but i did find quite a few g1820t cpus 'http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR1.TRC0.A0.H0.Xceleron+g1820t.TRS0&_nkw=celeron+g1820t&_sacat=0 Title: Re: 25 / 40 Thousand dollar mining rig parts Post by: nerdralph on September 05, 2016, 01:28:12 AM why celeron g1840 see if you can get g1840t 18 watts less and when you use a celeron they do tend to use more of the cpu I highly doubt this. I have a couple rigs with G1840 CPUS, and load while mining eth is <5%. If I remember correctly, idle power use with no GPUs installed (running off the iGPU) was ~25W. In my limited experience with 2 of them, it's a good PS and kinda overkill for a 6-card RX4xx rig. it is a bit overkill, but there are not many PSUs at 1100W (which would be an ideal ~70% load). but if dual-mining, you'd be drawing around 130-140w/card, and about 100-150W to the overhead (cpu/fans/hdd/etc). thats ~800-900W, and its good to keep <80% psu load if you plan to run 24/7 for months on end. I don't have any g1840's anymore I do have: pentium g4500 pentium g4400 i3 6100t give me some time I will photo them but as I recall my pentiums are always higher cpu loads then the i3 6100t. I am running 8 pcs 24/7 with various cpu's the t's simply do lower watts on all of the ones I have. It may change ofcourse in a few months. Title: Re: 25 / 40 Thousand dollar mining rig parts Post by: Coyn on September 05, 2016, 10:28:49 AM Big question remains..
470/480? 4GB/8GB? (only advantage of the 480 is that it sells better in 1-2 years..) (only advantage of the 480 is that it sells better in 1-2 years..) go for a mix ½ 4gb ½ 8gb look for best prices Question how do you plan to keep area cooled off. The climate here in holland is beginning to cool rapidly now, in a month it will be around 10C. The rigs will be set up inside a old shed with good ventilation (and some extra fan's ofcourse) and we will just check it for a little while. Maybe some extra airco. Why a mix or 4/8gb? Why a mix or 4/8gb? 4gb are 200 usd vs 8gb 250 usd so while the 4gb may do a little less hash it is 50 usd cheaper 8gb will stick around long with eth since they can do a bigger dag due to 2x the memory. |
