Title: Shady stalking going on
Post by: awesome31312 on September 05, 2016, 12:29:28 AM
I recently got contacted by someone who somehow had a very dead, inactive Armory wallet address that I had, asking me if it was my account. He was inaccurate about the funds that are currently in that wallet, which leads me to believe that he checked the balance through blockchain.info, but where did he get the wallet address from? Did he save it from when it was listed on my profile? That's the one that's linked to various "markets" (you guys know what I mean)

Well we people can access your profile number and try to input them at bctalkpricer of some site. Or the site where people can see their accounts on how many more weeks or the appraisal of an account. Also in there you can see the previous wallets but im not sure if my statement answers your question. Just my theory.

What did this person want, by linking your profile to this BTC address?
If indeed he is stalking you, there must be some objective.

Stalking as in law enforcement stalking, maybe?

This is a valid question. there must be something that motivate him to do it. would he earn by stalking you?

if you have posted that wallet address somewhere chances is that you can be tracked. its really not that hard for anyone to check and trace transaction that leads to a user.

People on bitcointalk are usually small fry for law enforcement agencies. :)
They aren't going to be worried about people selling cracked software.
So unless you have run a large scale ponzi or sold drugs, you should be safe.

Very probably. Public information is public.

That's the one that's linked to various "markets" (you guys know what I mean)
If you have an address that's linked to various "markets" (if I know what you mean), why on Earth would you ever put it in your public profile? Bitcoin isn't anonymous, you know. Don't be surprised if you have LEOs knocking on your door soon.

It is possible that you had posted an address in that wallet in the past, and the specific address was either one that you actually posted, is spend linked to one you posted, or is spend linked to a clear change address related to an address you posted (or one that is spend linked to an address that you posted).

You probably want to stop reusing addresses, and stop trading with people who reuse addresses.

You don't want that. it would be scary but possible if addresses you listed on the internet leads to you and then to a profile that identifies you with your name and address. I wonder what OP did in the past. IF he isn't into something illegal and can dispute any allegations then I guess he's just fine.

OP, can you pm me your address. I'll check what you can do.

I can assure you that you can do absolutely nothing. The OP already confirmed that the address in question belongs to him and whoever asked him was able to make the connection.

I am fairly sure you are simply trying to increase your post count ::)

See how stalking is pretty customary here in the forum?
being called a pedophile started when i call ADZcoin a scam which is true as well https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1590725.40
but yeah if you are like me which they call a pedophile, you would have to hide yourself and not posts anything that will be traced back to you.
if a trace route existed, you still can delete them if possible and you will need to find these routes.

electronicash, I don't care what you call a scam here. The thing is, you are telling the OP to give you his address.

I wouldn't trust most people here including yourself.

And people I have talked to with in PM have called you a pedophile/stalker. I don't know if they are right or wrong, but as I said, I wouldn't trust you anyway and just advising OP to do the sensible thing and not give out his address to you.

My advice to the OP however:

Don't give anybody your address   :)

i don't force him to give me his btc address.  but if that hurts your feelings, I'd say sorry to you. what else do you want me to say so you feel safe?

My advice to OP is that never use that btc address again and the rest of the address related to your account.
facebook not publicly available and so on.

From now on OP stop using awesome31312 as your username to all forums you are into. People will track it just by using google. All the things posted publicly online are indexed by google including the posts you made on cheatengine. All these can lead back to you and stalkers can find out what you did on some forums as well.

if it just involve this post here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=314863.0
maybe he found some sort of solution to it? wallets been forgotten for years and its suddenly used recently.

Now that's better advice.

Thank you for all your posts guys. Jesushadaegis, you mentioned the account pricer, is there any way to remove the address in question from that website?
Did he save it from when it was listed on my profile?

Well because at the time (2-3 years ago) I was only using it for various signature campaign ads and smalltime Bitcointalk stuff.

Also, it's very likely that it is an undercover LEO of some sort, because he/she wanted me to admit that the wallet address was mine.
