Title: Totally confused
Post by: bimbo1 on September 06, 2016, 07:37:09 AM
Hello,

I need to make a bitcoin account/wallet for some website and I found this one for linux.

But there is hardly any documentation explaining how to set this thing up. Receiving bitcoins, what are those adresses on that tab. Are they mine? What are they? How do I even generate new one? There is hardly any explanation on the electrum website.

We live in 2016... there are some standards to be met. It is like you are being punished for not being a pro-uber-wallet-trader.

Sorry if it is a little rant, but it is just dissapointing.

It might help if you gave us a little information. What site? What wallet? What OS?

you should first read about bitcoin and learn what bitcoin is and i am sure almost all your questions will be answered. Electrum is a wallet for using "bitcoin" (https://bitcoin.org/en/). so there is no need to include some things like what a bitcoin address is or how to receive bitcoin.

what are those adresses on that tab. Are they mine? What are they? How do I even generate new one? There is hardly any explanation on the electrum website.

all the addresses you see on the tab called "Addresses" are yours. you can give the addresses starting with 1 or 3 to other people so they can send you bitcoin.

Imo the layout of the electrum wallet is quite clear.

The first tab shows your transaction history and your balance. This is where you keep track of what went in and what went out of your wallet.

The next tab allows you to send bitcoin to someone else. You put and addres, what you want to send and a fee (let it auto calculate) and press send.

Then you have receive, this shows your latest unused address. Use this to send coins to if you want to get them into your wallet. It also allows you to request a payment, which makes a qr code someone else can scan to send you your coins.

The addresses tab shows a list of current used and unused addresses. You can ignore it for now, just as the final two tabs.

We live in 2016 and before talking about standards I think you should read the full documentation of Electrum wallet which explains everything in detail and leaves no room for such questions.
Next time don't rush.

Here is all you need to know about your electrum wallet
docs.electrum.org

Edit; I see you have read it, but for the moment use only the 3 first tabs , history, send , receive and you should be good to go.
