We have a market. We have brains.. Why don't we have a cryptocurrency yet ?

We don't need our own  desi crypto-currency. Bitcoin is perfect for us as it is. We just need to do what we can to ensure that it is widely adopted and integrated into our everyday lives.

Yes you are right as bitcoin is major and flexible currency .it is widely accepted thats the best part of it .so if bitcoin related service focus on opening different service across inda that will be best for bitcoin indian users.

No country specific CryptoCurrency has been successful so far. Those are pretty meaningless.

There is no project I know that is ongoing, but like someone said above, Mudra was the latest coin to be developed here. But I am not sure if they actually paid out Mudras to citizens here. I did send them a message.

There is a trestor coin made in India, but its currently not completely free of allegations - but I think it's the closest thing to what you are referring to.

There is this sub section in the India local board: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=125.0 which has altcoins listed. I believe it also lists the translated threads.

We have actually had many cryptos that got developed from India, a few examples are Trestor, Mudra etc. Most of them however haven't been much successful in the long run though.

There are more than 740 alt coins and some shelved their project altogether but still you can trade above 500 coins i believe in different exchanges and most of the exchanges remove the coins if there is not activity for a long time despite all these coins a few have a market capitalization over $10 million
