Title: Prophetic or not [on bitcoin in Mr Robot show]?

Mr Robot...

Problem here is hard cash is fading rapidly.. this is is just the way of the world right now...and bitcoin is spreading...and if bitcoin takes over, we are all in the world of hell [unclear why?]...it is unregulated, it is already reached it's transactional volume maximum and it is controlled by chinese miners

fantasy from a parallel universe?
I am quite eager to see who will prevail (in this show) and in life.

My take is that as money becomes digital, it is becoming more and more a whole new ball game with an uncertain outcome.
Anyway, i became interested in bitcoin in 2013 when the price was rapidly advancing from $250.
It has been interesting so far, but larger fortunes could have been made in other investments from that point on.

It is unclear how much longer the flatline (or almost the flatline, especially in log scale) would continue.
Almost nobody from the "old" financial world seem to be eager to jump on public crypto platform and public en masse is just too unsophisticated to even comprehend where crypto advantages are. Maybe they do in highly inflationary developing world, but not here in US/Europe.

I didn't know Hollywood was inspired by god to make prophetic messages.

So no, i don't believe it's prophetic. In fact, he is only talking about how bitcoin is a problem to THEM, because they seem to be bankers, and bankers will be hurt by bitcoin (whcih is exactly the point).

Not. Even. Close. To. Being. Prophetic.

It's just garbage, putrid garbage. Nothing to see here, people, just move along.

WSJ feels that it is good enough to discuss.

Quote
What’s absolutely great about this is that it plays on not one, but two dystopian fears: the fears among corporatists and government officials that bitcoin is going to take over the world, and the fear among bitcoiners that their beloved cryptocurrency will be perverted into a tool of the very institutions they sought to disintermediate in the first place.

Price’s idea does nail the China thing. One of the biggest anxieties around bitcoin today, at least, in regulatory and financial circles, is the concentration of Chinese miners. No western bank is going to allow its every transaction to be run through a Chinese computer over which it has no control. What western powers have realized, though, is that they don’t have to do that. They can simply take bitcoin’s open-source protocol, and adapt it to their own needs and control. Which is exactly what Price offers “Jack.”

“With eCoin,” Price says, “we control the ledger, and the mining servers, we are the authority.”

Au contraire, I have no idea what you refer to, exactly.

I think that the conflict is outlined quite well in the actual show and in ^^^.
Not clear how it will play out, though.
We shall see.

Not at all I agree that they are only shouting out what is in their mind.  Though some are facts but they only use these facts to supplement their idea (somethng like bible cutting)  to make it look like prophetic but all in  all this is just  scheming to make people believe that bitcoin will bring problem.

Dictionary:
1. prophetic=accurately describing or predicting what will happen in the future.
2. of, relating to, or characteristic of a prophet or prophecy (like Old Testament).

I use the meaning of this word as #1 of course, why even consider #2. Are we living in biblical times?

Right, it's different this time.   Anytime you hear that said or even implied,  run for the fucking hills.

Why is there so much garbage on YouTube.   Bitcoin does pander to people's fears, big time, but this is mostly a load of mule shit.  Just like most prophecies.

It does bring up an interesting point.

Banks and the people who really control the money we use are definitely watching bitcoin and other currencies like it.
Just because they haven't made a move yet (that we can see) doesn't mean they aren't watching, and waiting.
Any large institution could totally take over any coin they wanted to. A few hundred million or a billion dollars is nothing to a large bank.
That would be more than enough to take any coin in a direction they wanted.

The best article concerning this show is when the actor (who I think is Egyptian descent) was portraying an Egyptian in a different movie and a random black person complained that "black Egyptians" were being replaced by "white actors".

You are wrong. In the show (last chapter 2x11?) Ecorp (which is the world biggest company in that world) launches Ecoin thanks to the two trillion dollars loan borrowed by the chinese gov.

That coin, replaces FIAT money and surpasses btw Bitcoin.

This is the most probably scenario in a future. Banks together launch a new cryptocoin.

1. It did not happen yet (in the show) as far as replacing FIAT. It is what their grandstanding CEO wants.
2. Don't you see a paradox-borrowed two trillion DOLLARS (which implies that they have value, as today) to launch something that would diminish (at least ) $ value. No government would agree to such concoction, especially if $$ are the law of the land as a legal tender.
4. You cannot have real crypto currency as a single country currency. It cannot work this way. In addition, $ is not an only currency in the world, although it is still dominant to a degree (petrodollar, etc.)

Not exactly, the 2 trillion dollar loan was only the keep the company from going bankrupt and failing all together. The sick thing is that he now wants ecoin to replace bitcoin, which would basically make the 2 trillion dollars that they loaned from the chinese useless and insanely easy to repay.

The reason he wants to rush the launch is that bitcoin is gaining firm ground in the series. If it reaches critical mass before ecoin is offically recognized as the countries currency, they may be too late to turn people away from bitcoin.
