Is there really a future for it?  Where would btc be used instead of your traditional cashless money via debit/credit cards etc?

Debit/Credit money is not exactly cashless. It is based on the same framework as paper money is. It is the same system called FIAT money.
Bitcoin is something else, it is transparent and finite monetary system.
Of course it will be only more expensive over time - unlike every standard FIAT system - which will be worth less and less mainly because of two factors: quantitative easing and inflation.

Thank you for your answer. But in order for btc to survive, or even thrive, wouldn't it have to be used a lot (at least much more than today)? And what is the probability of that?

I mean I have already bought small stuff with btc and it's neat because there are no fees etc for either side. But not many people have done it, I guess?

And why would it be only more expensive over time?

There is absolutely no reason for you to invest in bitcoin.

Bitcoin is still a new tech, it was introduced less than a decade ago. Financial tech seems to be very orthodox branch of economy.

Banks are using transfer methods and accounting invented couple dozens years ago. Meanwhile blockchain based platforms are still evolving.

It takes years, sometimes even decades to introduce&implement new revolutionary system like bitcoin.

Bitcoin is far away from become an industry standard, especially in banking because huge power shift won't happen overnight.

Bitcoin will be more expensive because:

1. As it becomes more popular and demand increases which is equal to increase in value.
2. Bitcoin is finite, there won't be ever more than 21 millions of bitcoin.
3. Every lost bitcoin is beneficial and will make other coins worth slightly more.
4. Bitcoin is still in its infancy state and yet it is accepted in hundred of services around the world. To name a few: Steam, Dell, Dish Network, Expedia, NewEgg, Microsoft, Overstock.
Imagine when every online shop will start accepting it in the future - huge demand - huge price increase.

But again, no one is forcing you to invest in bitcoin. It is not some Ponzi scheme, where owner 'guarantees' that you will be rich. There is no such guarantee with Bitcoin.

I'm thinking about this question, why should anyone invest in bitcoins now? I think some people asked same question 5 years ago, and look what happened.
Seeing that and now, I don't see big difference. People who invest now will have a chance to make good profit when they sell their bitcoins for higher price. I think that is good enough for everyone to think about it, how much safe it is I don't know, I think there isn't 100 % sure investment today. Risk and make profit, stay on a side and miss a train, decision is only yours.

The question is kinda confusing, anyway as for the future, i can say yes there is.  Imagine the billion dollar involve in this economy.  And the many people around the world that uses it.  I think it will be hard to make bitcoin be forgotten because users keep growing by day.  And merchants starting to adopt it and country accepting  it to implement tax lol.

It is a feeling of gut and maybe also even taking risk. I never new that the price eventually would go up to 600 dollar but yet i Invested in bitcoin. For me bitcoin holds the future. Buying bitcoins would mean i would either be able to use my bitcoins in a shop, or profit from speculation. So Win Win.

The same applies for new users, when you buy bitcons approach it the way I did, you may see that it's a Win-Win situation for you too.

There is no reason but the bitcoin is a whole new innovation and I think that its the future so its your own choice.

usage is tied to what people prefer over something, i see bitcoin as a different choice, it's like you are asking why we should choose mastercard when there is visa, for some bitcoin is better because it has some advantage over a debit card, like not be able to lose your fund while performing a buy order, they can not steal your credential because there is only an address

First of all, bitcoin is not meant to erase the use of debit and credit cards. It's just some sort of additional option.

Is bitcoin has future? Why don't check it for yourself since you already have some bitcoin on hand.

You've come to the worst possible place for an objective opinion. I myself don't think usage as a currency will be very widespread. For better or worse I think digital gold is a more likely outcome but anything could happen.

Not really but with bitcoin you can earn money, why we must invest in bitcoin. there is you heard before if there an investment that can easily give you a profit simply by holding it until prices rise.

Because we are on the track right now. If something major doesn't happen (like exchange hacks) Bitcoin won't go lower than 550$. Bitfinex tested this and as you see the support is very strong there. I don't say you should go all in, i say convert some of your wealth into bitcoin. You won't regret it.

People should invest in BTC right now because Bitcoin is designed to increase its value over time. If you invest right now, you're not going to profit in the next day. That's mostly the case but what if you invest right now and it pumped the next day, then you just earned profit in a day. no not really. even if the level of usage stays the same in the future. bitcoin will "survive" even with the current price. because there is enough investors and also there is enough usefulness for it still.

1. yes there is a bright future for btc. in 2010, the price of btc was very very low, less than 40$, while today the price has increased upto 600$. btc has a great potential and it can make you very rich even if you just hold it and sell at the right time unlike fiat.
2. btc can be used in many online shops to buy electronics and other goods. but we still have to wait for the day when btc can be used in most of the physical shops as well. and believe, we dont have to wait too long for that day to come.

there isn't something as "definitely" getting profits. even not with bitcoin. if it really was that easy, then everyone would put their money into bitcoin and sit back looking at the profits they are making. you are either trading to make profits, or buying coins at lower levels to sell them later on at higher levels. everything you do has a certain risk involved.

The problem that bitcoin is IT project history shows that IT ventures can fail miserably when the bubble pops. I certainly hope that it won't be the case with bitcoin, but the road ahead is bumpy.

you need to watch how hacker can easily stole credit card credential and clone it, pretty hilarious how easy that is, many games from g2a for example are there at low cost because they stole funds from card and resell those games at cheaper rate, card skimming is very easy to do

Its really said to be a secured place to invest and profit more without much investment. Compared to previous months, its price is bit low. This would be the correct time to invest. Buy more bitcoins as much as it can be. When the price will goes up, the value of what you have saved till now, would really go up and could see a good profit in your wallet.

It's not really fair to call the current price low in comparison to how it was before Bitfinex was hacked. If you take the Bitfinex hack into consideration, then the price right now is far from low. I actually expect the price to go below $600 again before the end of next week.

There's no point comparing platforms that people can skip between for nothing when one becomes more fashionable. They have nothing invested other than their filthy content which again can be swapped across.

When your money's on the line your current setup becomes rather more compelling.

People should invest in Bitcoin because they can make money with it so it is perfect as an secondary income if you ask me.

Same speculation. Before the week ends or the month ends . It will not stay at $600 above itt will drop sonner or later. Now it is startig to  drop  but not really too low now. But  next week it will. So that is the time to buy more bitcoin if you want to invest on it.

saying i expect price to go to xyz is worthless unless you say why you think this can hapen.

if you speculate this way then i can saythe same thing and say i expect price to go up to $800 by the end of the week or month or year or decade :D

there is always these smaller ups and downs and you can never predict these things beacuse that will always end up being wrong.

yes it is a fact that the price of bitcoin is not so much effected by the bitfinex, as it the price of bitcoin recovered very soon, but i think that the price of bitcoin is not going to down below 600$ it will just above 600$ for some time but after that the price has to move forward and hope to cross 800$ in next month.

In my opinion, bitcoin is really good for short term investment. Because the price can easily increase and decrease and when the times come, you can get much profit if you buy at the right time.

but short term investment is too much risky, for example when you buy bitcoin and the price start falling as you was expected that the price will go up so you become confused and start panic selling and lost your money, so if you invest in bitcoin for long term. then you do not take care about the little down fall and remain calm and after some time the price again start increase, we have a live example of the situation after the bitfinex news,

not anyone, but people which want to make bitcoin as investment. its depend on the people, they want to make investment in bitcoin or not, we can't push them to make invest on bitcoin.

and i think, many people get wrong perception about bitcoin so they don't know what is the real bitcoin and what is benefit for using bitcoin. and they get only small info about bitcoin, beside that, there are many program affiliate that offering bitcoin as their payment but in the end that programs will scam people so people is just make judgement that bitcoin is wrong investment.

Unless you already have enough money to invest and sell when the price increases slightly,
you are probably buying as a long term investment.

Yes you're right there mate, government start using and implementing bitcoin this time and there are so many country used it already and compare last year,and one of the reasons is of collecting some tax on it, they start destroying bitcoin this way. And yes bitcoin has a future many people use it for there daily lives already, and some had already physical stores instead of virtual one, so they've totally think that bitcoin will grow larger and many people around the world will use it as replacement for paypal, as it its good way of payment buying some digital stuffs.

i think long term investment is better in bitcoin, in next block halving, i think bitcoin can reach 4digit, i think $1000 is the minimum stable price. so we can double our money in 4years it's easy and highest interest than bank.

Destroying bitcoin if government accept it they have no plan to destroy instead they will put high taxes. governments are corrupted so we can expect that they will destroy bitcoins..  For now bitcoin is growing year by year more adoption will come this is a good thing or sign that bitcoin is adopted..

even if government does anything like putting taxes on bitcoin that don't do anything for bitcoin and it will still continue growing.

I agree, on this.  bitcoin price is really very high now especially  in third world country.  Though the opportunity that bitcoin gives to  make you earn alot of money still in effect.  And it is up to us on how to take advantage on it.  Besides  if we work hard and smart, even with not much of financial capacity to invest in bitcoin, we can still accumulate bitcoin thru offering our services.

That 100% depends on where it goes from here in terms of adoption. Despite all the noise and confirmation bias here, it's effectively nowhere still in the greater scheme of things. It's gotten as far as it can on pure speculation by a small number of enthusiasts.

It either remains an experiment and curio in which case there'll be modest pumps but not enough fresh blood to take it anywhere which is the story of the last three years, or some real utility is delivered and it's used as it's intended to be by an ever increasing number of people.

In that scenario then all the silly predictions might just become a possibility. There's such a lack of perspective that people compare 2013 to the dotcom bubble.

The dotcom bubble consumed trillions of dollars of premier league institutional money. Bitcoin's 2013 bubble was probably fuelled by a few thousand Chinese grannies. There were no finance professionals, no institutional money, there were no exchanges worth shit, no investment vehicles, no tax wrappers, no fundamentals, nothing.

Look up 'crossing the chasm' in terms of how tech is adopted. I dunno where we are, possibly sub early adopter still, but Bitcoin is definitely in some type of chasm. Either it climbs out and ignites or continues to roll around at the bottom.

There is no reason to think that bitcoin will fail any time soon. It is becoming more stable as time goes on. Plus the blockchain technology behind it is getting more positive publicity.

Looking at the price, I think it is still a good time to buy, considering the potential for a price increase in the future. If you have the patience to hold for at least two years, then I think you will be rewarded with a good amount of profits. Also, by watching out for when the price decreases by 5 or 10% in a day because those are the best buying opportunities, when a lot are selling or when there's bad news that results in panic selling.

If a person has spare cash to invest, I think the time is still right for him to buy some bitcoins. It is still relatively cheap, compared to a few months ago when it hit almost $800. And it would be better if he can keep it for the next 2 or 4 years, right up to the next halving event, where there will surely be some pumping going on.

and if this popularity will increase more for sure the impact will be positive for us as bitcoin users and investors

As an investor for the halving, its best to wait it out then locking away or investing your funds right now. A lot can happen over 4 years, so it would be rather best to put in your money in the 3rd year. I don't see prices going up between then and now anyways.

Yeah, investing bitcoin before the halving is really good and the best way to do. Luckly i invest my money into bitcoin before the halvin. For now, i don't think invest in bitcoin is a good way. Because we don't know what happen next.

You should invest in to Bitcoin now because it can allow you to make some extra money with it which everyone can use. The prices are now are not that high so you should take advantage if this.
Soon the value is going to go up and if you do not buy now it can be to late because the value maybe will never be this low again.

i think halving is too far and we are not going to look or predict the price in behalf of halving, but as it was expected before the bitfinex issue that he price will reach to a good high price but after bitfinex hacking issue the price fell down and trade below 600$ for a long time so now as the market is going to recover its position so its expected that the price of bitcoin will again raise to high level therefore i think it is good time to invest bitcoin right now.

It's a speculative currency that can introduce you to technology you never knew existed, teach you about cryptography/computer security,  and economics.  Personally I wouldn't invest a huge amount, but the enjoyment and learning opportunities that come from it are enough to make it well worth having a little bit.

You still do not know?  Bitcoin is really a good way to invest into.  It is like the fiat currency just do exactly the same but it is more safe, I guess, and it is faster with small fee.  It can be used to pay utility bills like electricity and water.  You can use them to pay online stores which accepts bitcoin as payment. 

I'll tell you what:  The price right now is dropping like a stone (sorta).  But right about now, also, I'm down to my last 3 Ramen noods until Thursday when I gets paid.  I'm hoping the price crashes before then so I can buy low, and that's exactly what I'm going to do.  I love it when things crash.  It's better than sex to me.  That flash crash we had back in 2010 in the stock market--I had to sit down for most of the day whilst watching Bloomberg.  Good times.  I even remember the Oct. 1987 crash, though it wasn't as much fun back then. 

Why should anyone invest?  Whodafuckknows?  There's no predicting this market, and there's nothing to analyze except sentiment, which amounts to trying to outguess the rest of the sucker pool.  Buy now or buy later.  Makes no difference.

Investing before halving would be  good since as we observe price increases drastically which could really  give us   decent profits. If you  do short trades and  love to see profits then its  still advisable to buy bitcoin as  of  the moment because    the price is going down. We wont definitely knows what the future but the  hope and assumed  things  would might happen.

If you are investing with the bitcoin you will make allot of money off course that is the first thing but what we do know is that allot of people like to get monety with the bitcoin.

Yes more and more adoption is coming every day and even many millionaires have found bitcoin a way to secure their funds anonymously in bitcoin so they don't have to pay tax to government. All this will surely gonna increase total marketcap of bitcoin increasing price simultaneously.

Well bitcoin is speculatory, so it's gonna depend on your prediction if it's worth it to buy btc as of the moment. IMO it's better to wait for a dip, like what happened when BitFinex got hacked. That's buy time.

There is definitely a lot room for potential growth, but whatever potential Bitcoin is having, it will take years before we get to see it (if it ever happens to show up).

In the meantime it's the volatility that people should use in their advantage to benefit from Bitcoin as a relative short term investment plan.

Simply because bitcoin has a lot of potential that many people could benefit from it.  It is almost exactly the same as our fiat currency.  The difference only is that every transactions like selling, buying, and paying were made online.  It gives people a hassle free transactions and with no less and sometimes no fee service.

Apart of the potential, which in fact is a good reason to invest into bitcoin, think about the freedom bitcoin gives you when you invest. Invest in any kind of kind of currency and you will see there are limits and boundaries. The amount you can deposit, or withdraw or even transfer to another account.

With bitcoin you don't have these boundaries.

Indeed it gives you a lot of freedom but I would not invest into the bitcoin right now because of the fact that the price is pretty high right now.

Honestly, bitcoin is not suitable for everybody as a form of investment, especially the more conservative kind of investors. With the volatility in price, it serves as a deterrent for those people who would rather keep their money elsewhere because they are only after capital preservation. These people don't want to risk too much and would only go for safer investments.

You cannot blame them because that is their risk limit. The lesser the risk, the lesser the profit though. Bitcoin can be very risky but if it becomes successful, even with today's prize, we can still be very profitable.

Would not invest right now but I would people recommend to stay with their eyes on the bitcoin market till the price gets lower.

the price has been so much more stable and changes like the last big drop because of bitfinex hack are so rare and as we already know they will only last a very short time as bitcoin tends to stay at a higher price and continue going up.

Because BTC have more uses than cash. You can't pay cash when your ordering online, I mean you can't pay it directly unlike bitcoin that can be transacted in just a seconds or minutes. Bitcoin have more advantages than cash. First, you don't need to go outside just to pay what you order or just to buy some things, because in bitcoin you can pay it directly online and you'll just gonna wait for their delivery of the product that you bought online compare to cash that you have to go to the mall or something where you can buy the stuff that you want. Second, Bitcoin's price or rate are more higher than cash, bitcoin's price is fluctuating and it's possible that it can hit more than $2000 per 0.00001 btc in the near future compare to cash that's it's value is just stable. That's why it's better to invest BTC than cash.

Great speculation but we can't predict what will happen to it in the future but i think fiat will remain stronger since many people still using it and also fiat are much more famous among bitcoin, but if bitcoin will surpass the fame and blockchain technology will dominate in future i think it is good news to us since we are using it and maybe we can get more benifits upon this great event and possibly bitcoin will soar high and demands is more going upwards.

Anyone who is smart enough to understand how bitcoin works should invest according to his/her own possibilities. This train has a bit more space but all slots are filling rather soon.

Bitcoin is still very new and still very long journey. There is a good future for bitcoin and there are now more and more people are starting to use bitcoin. Bitcoin is suitable for short-term investment because we can benefit from fluctuations.

Yes many people now invest in bitcoin becuase this is the way to get big profit. And bitcoin is easy to earn money. By doing nothing in bitcoin we can earn money easy if bitcoin get in the higher level the price. Thats why many people are being addicted in bitcoin.

It's not actually new, we've had 2 halving seasons already, although in a sense it's still young. The tech is still developing and improving, everything is in the works and we'd be seeing more innovations over the next few years. Short term? Probably not, as IMO it's better to invest in a blooming BTC startup than play short term. Long game is better IMO.

Ofcourse there is really a future for bitcoin. It's a very innovative concept with a nice foundation already. It should be able to be used anywhere you want to use it.
Bitcoin will grow more and more allowing us to use it in more places and the people who were here early will be wealthy.

it seems that with the newbie here in this forum you are new to the world of bitcoin . if you will study the bitcoin then you will find you can't only invest in bitcoin but also you can make trade and other everything with this currency .

thats right theres a lots of things that you can do aside from investing in btc because if you just look around this forum you will get more ideas on how and why you should and what would be the possible earnings in return, by the way bitcoin is already an investment a good asset to hold.

If you want profit then you should invest into bitcoin right now cause the profit that you are able to earn is insane after a few years.
Ofcourse it's not a quickfix for money it requires patience and investment but it will be rewarded with high value coins.

There is no right time for investing in bitcoins if you are planing for long term, because i believe bitcoin rate will skyrocket within few years, But if you need to make some quick results, this is not the right time wait for few more months the price would go down a bit or start growing up, so buy at the right time either up or down.

In future there will be more common credit and debit card which use bitcoins as primary funding options.

The reason most newcomers invest in bitcoin is for the same reason we invest in bitcoin. Because they/we believe in bitcoin as a worldwide currency. It will succeed and with that it will give bitcoin a good use for us. Because we are free from the tyranny of the banks.

I would not even really recommend you to now invest in the bitcoin because the price is pretty high and I would wait if the price will go to a lower amount if I was you.

It's easy to say something, but can you at least explain why you think the current price is high and thus not good for investing in Bitcoin? The way I look at the current price, it looks to me as a price that is just about right, because it's not over bought, and not over sold. Equal chances of seeing the price go in both up and down directions.

thats right its not high or low its trying to establish one position to another and it is acceptable if you are planning to invest for a long time.

If you are taking positions for the long term, I think the price is still at very reasonable levels. Sooner or later, we are going to see another significant movement. What direction it takes is anybody's guess. But at these levels, I would not hesitate buying some if I have the budget. We might the price rise and fall a little in the short term, but the long term pattern of continued increase is still there.

Here are a few reasons why you might buy or use Bitcoin:

1) You think a rise in bitcoin adoption is around the corner or will inevitably come.
2) You are a trader looking at a chart and you analyze that a move upwards is imminent, at which point you will sell for a profit.
3) You are a doomsday prepper who thinks fiat money will collapse but bitcoin will still hold value and be usable.
4) You aren't prepping for doomsday but still think fiat money will slowly inflate while bitcoin doesnt and you dont have particular confidence in any other investments.
5) You are a nerd and Bitcoin is the only investment you really know anything about the fundamentals of, and don't want to bother with anything else. Your pride doesn't let you hold less than X% of bitcoins and being part of the bitcoin elite.
6) You are afraid of the government freezing your money.
7) You are running a criminal enterprise, evading taxes, or using the black market.
8.) You hold bitcoins in order to trade altcoins or gamble. You get a double benefit of investing in bitcoin while also making profits of your trades. There are some services that even do forex or stocks instead of altcoins.
9) You made a lot of bitcoins trading in 2013, already cashed out a decent profit, and are committed to riding on a percentage of the profits permanently. (me)

TERA, you are absolutely right, actually i am speechless, i think you are giving us perfect answer.
But about OP, i suggest the bitcoin because it is a different crypto currency from fiat, and should do investment in a different way. And if we want to do any investment or trading in online than on one is best currency from bitcoin. When we come in bitcoin than it gives us most of the other ways to make profit. Personally i think that bitcoin is a new and future technology.

You should invest in btc right now< cause right now the price is quite low compared to what it will reach in the next 5 years.
So to invest later instead of now is a waste of money and it won't be worth it anymore if we are further down the line cause the price will be too high already to still make profit.

bitcoin currently has a good prospect. There are many advantages of bitcoin. one of them is the speed and reliability.

you should take a look at what bitcoin is offering and learn more about its features and if you are not convinced then and if you can't see the potential the don't invest but i assure you that if you really seek the potential of bitcoin and realize it then you will stop at nothing to buy more bitcoin before it is too late.

Most of the value for bitcoin comes from the blockchain technology. If the banks successfullly implement that technology in the financial system, then bitcoin would likely take a big hit. So not all is good.

Yes buying bitcoin as  of now  is quite does have  already a high price but still we should  put  up through our minds that bitcoin price would not go lower over 500 price for sure and  600 is still low to consider  because we could really assume that bitcoins price would increase further  more.

because the current price is relatively low, visible if compared with the predictions of the future of the bitcoin will always grow so the price will be higher in the future and in my opinion is good for investment now in bitcoin.

More importantly, if people does have an extra ammo to buy coins then just go with it and wait for the output later. $300, $400 and $500 is considered as high price in the past but now it's a cheap price to consider.

It can happen also to $600 and it's reasonable to believe. Besides I can't imagine now what will happen if the price will reached below $500 and now halving is occured. It's a dissapointment by some of the miners.

I believe that we will not see price of $500 now, it may start rising slowly and steadily, so I think current price is good invest in in btc as in future even $600 will be treated as a low price.

I agree, there is a slim possiblity that we are able  to see sub 400 USD Bitcoin now, and the price at this point is the price value of bitcoin after the correction stage, from here there is a big possibility that bitcoin will increase in price in the near future because of people getting into bitcoin everyday.

Bitcoin is one of those best, mind blowing  and  innovative inventions in our lifetime. It is getting a good  traction from people all over the world. Their are still possibilities for price to get down but for now it would not happen since bitcoins price and strength are on the peak of explosiveness, and for that i really see some great futurr for this coin, provably each day the price of this coin will be lifted out and it will raise for the price that we don't expect to be happen, so its better really to invest in bitcoin since oppurtunities are so many for this coin if we know how to use this.

i agree bitcoin is really growing fast even with lots of hiccups along the road.  I wonder when can bitcoin beat the peak way back 2 years ago, seems lots of people are still at a deficit (those who bought at 1k+ usd)  Still i think it is better to buy btc now coz people are hoarding bitcoin and waiting for the price to increase and dump when it hit more than thousand dollar.

i think the only reason is that it is expected that the price of bitcoin is going to increase so much in next few months therefore no one should miss the opportunity and must invest the full assets in bitcoin.

There isn't really anything to back that statement up though, unless you know something I don't. From what I've seen there isn't anything bound to happen for a while, and there are no big planned events on the way. The market doesn't look enthusiastic right now either. For all I know you're basing your statement on things happening irl, which would make sense.

alt coinsd are highly volatile  so its easy to make or lose a few 100%  in a day etc but bitcoin  is the gold standard of crypto

That's true. In fact the price is increasing fast nowadays and it's really predicted it will rise a lot more in the next few months and may be it will reach 1000$ or more by the end of this year.

People are investing into the bitcoin right now because they think that the price of the bitcoin is going to rise but i don't think that would happen right now.

Why should people invest into the bitcoin right now i think if they want to make seriuous money you should buy bitcoins right now because it is very important to make money.

The price feeling so high (no pun intended) is entirely subjective. Bitcoin is probably not really overpriced at all. It just looks expensive with respect to what had happened in the past, when its price had been sticking around $250 per coin. But in retrospect, it may turn out that you would not be in fact overpaying for it if you decided to buy bitcoins right now. It can go down a few dozen dollars, but the upside is virtually unlimited.
