If you are really serious about this and you are not trolling, then I would suggest that you contact a Bitcoin mining company like Bitmain or someone who has been doing this as a profession for years.  $2m is no joke and so is building a $2m Bitcoin mining farm.  You need careful planning and careful study to help you become successful.

With the current mining reward, 12.5 BTC, is it still worth it to build a farm and mine?  Don't the present mining farms have the advantage over you in this competitive industry?

Is this for real? So if you want to invest your 2 million dollars in bitcoin then I guess you can have some partnership with big bitcoin companies. Why not have a partnership with coinbase or blockchain.info or even xapo for sure they are going to have a good improvement if you are going to invest that for real. And you are secured already with your investment because they are already well known companies.

It is not profitable when you buy miners from another company.  You will be wasting your friend's money.
Better to buy land in North America.

When you have $2,000,000 to invest, my question is:  Why the F*&$ are you coming to a chat forum for advice.  There are financial boutiques and a bunch of other places that cater to people with high net worth.

But methinks you is just trollin'.  Good job.

I don't think this is real either,no one asks on a public forum where to invest 2 million dollars.
In case you are not trolling here is my answer,I don't know about mining but you can just buy Bitcoins and sell it in a higher price later even a small price increase will give you nice profits and the risk is not so big.

I'm sure there's a couple of projects being developed here in the forum if you search in the right section.  Why not lease or buy a property instead of acquiring land to develop with?

What's your break down of costs?

25% Property and maintenance? (ie $ 500,000)
20% Staff costs? - Project managers and IT advisers (ie $ 400,000)
20% Rig acquisition and instillation
20% Power supply and insurance?
10% Legal? ( ie $ 200,000)
 05% Unplanned emergencies? (ie $ 100,000)

Is this $2M a one off capital investment / all that you have / a yearly budget for new ventures?

Good luck with your venture.

there are a lot of other initial costs that can make, making profit hard for your friend.
one of the reasons you see Chinese have many mining farms is that the mining equipment manufacturer is located there and they get their equipment cheap (so much cheaper)

also they have especial contracts for their electricity that makes their electricity again so much cheaper than regular rates.

would be a better plan than putting it up on mining infrastructures, its too much work to handle now adays. he'd rather buy bitcoins and wait for next year to cash out his profits. he'll be one of the whales later.

Your friend will have to buy mining hardware, and probably he will have to hire people to maintain and

keep that hardware so the costs will go up.I`m not sure if mining is still profitable, even with

cheap electricity.

If he wants to make everything legal,he will have to pay taxes,so the profit might be small.

Do you already have a warehouse with cooling infrastructure, or do you need to buy or rent that too with the funds? You will have to factor that in too, if you do not have the space at the moment. This project will be on a industrial scale, if you already have the infrastructure, and you only need to buy the Asic's to mine. < Well on a small scale >

It is also advisable to have a location in a cooler region of the world, to cut down on cooling cost. ^smile^

when you know nothing of the cost of mining and the profit of it then don't give any opinion! 12.5 current reward is even more profitable than before because of the current price. the reward was halved when the price went up 3 times compared to last year.

but it is still a lot of work regardless of the profit, and it is only profitable if you can keep the expenses to a minimum for electricity and can have proper and cheaper way of cooling depending on the climate of your city.

Have you calculate that in How many years you could get you invested money. Well I have no idea of mining but still I think mining bitcoin with paid electricity is not a good idea instead invest some amount in solar panel and forever electricity bill. It might sound obvious but honestly think again that your electricity bill will be 0 forever and just buy solar panel once.

If it is for real then i think first you have to get full knowledge about how to mine, and which miner hardware is currently running in the market and its performance. After getting all this information you can start the mining with bitcoin but you should not invest fully in one shot i think first you have to invest 50% with another 50% for reserve as if their is any other problems to sort it out. And you will also get idea of how the mining is working.

Best of luck for your mining project.

$2 million is a lot of money and Bitcoin is at best a very high risk investment. You most certainly have enough money to set up a decent-sized mining farm and it's almost guaranteed to be profitable but you would need to do a LOT of research and planning first. With the money you have at your disposal, real estate would be a far better investment if you ask me.

funny how everybody thinks he must have made good business decisions and have a solid knowledge of financials because he made that much money.
what if he won or inherited the money? if you are smart enough to run a mining farm then you ask different questions. first you read more about bitcoin, then you buy a small miner and play around with it to get familiar.

You can get money from bitmain if you referring your friend to buy mining hardware, i guess bitmain would give big discount for it and ask what's the best mining hard for now.

If you are for real then I suggest you partner with BITMAIN and start a mining field in China, I guess that is the only way you can expect to get some decent returns from the amount and even recover the amount if everything goes as planned. And reading the questions you have posted, I think your friend needs to do his homework if he is going to invest such a big amount. If I was he, I would buy bitcoins and invest some in upcoming altcoins and in good ICOs.

the OP doesnt have access to a friend with $2m..
he is just trying to up his rep so he can go on a money grab by asking for bitcoin off people.
(i presume he wants to use this topic to explan starting a server farm and later offer (vapour) cloud mining contracts to people)

many have noted his failed attempts in the past.

but the short answer to everyone speculating about mining,
unless you can buy a rig at 25% or less than the retail prices of a rig, it wont matter if you have free electric or not.
the difference between 20cnt/kwh and 5cent/kwh is only about $700 per rig over 6 months.
bitmain S9=$1600
electric in UK for 6 months= $900
electric in US for 6 months=$450
electric in asia for 6 months= $225

however if your paying retail price($1600) for a rig your already 5x worse off compared to the mining competitors who actually make their own rigs
bitmain/antpool make the rig for under $400.. in actual fact for every $1600 rig they sell to people, bitmain create atleast 4 rigs and hand out 1 to the customer and happily keep atleast 3 for themselves(for free essentially).

so even if you can get free electric. your still $1200-$1400 behind antpool before you even started.

trying to get your $1600(+free electric) back is not possible, based on difficulty and competitor hash power adjustments that slowing decline your rewards
trying to get your $1800(+asian electric) back is not possible, based on difficulty and competitor hash power adjustments that slowing decline your rewards
trying to get your $2000(+US electric) back is not possible, based on difficulty and competitor hash power adjustments that slowing decline your rewards
trying to get your $2500(+UK electric) back is not possible, based on difficulty and competitor hash power adjustments that slowing decline your rewards

non ASIC manufacturing people will not break even, the hope they have is just to mine bitcoin. not to pay off costs. but to hoard and hope one day the fiat price value doubles, triples and quadruples to then break even on the fiat price.

in short
if your spending bitcoin in hopes of mining more bitcoin, forget it.
if your spending fiat, to mine bitcoin in hopes waiting for bitcoin fiat value to give you more fiat, its possible. but you might aswell just buy bitcoin and hoard

I agree with this, its better to  buy directly into bitcoin rather than mining it since you would  surely cost on expenses on its maintainance for sure and also if you put all of those $2m in bitcoin then you also help the bitcoin ecosystem since it would increase its price when  you buy it one time.

If your friend really have that much, then I agree with you that mining is probably one of the best choice you can choose. Another option is to set up a secure and legit Bitcoin exchange platform.

Mining is a game of risk. If 'you' are lucky (total mining hashrate is not high), 'you' can earn a lot from it. If 'you' are unlucky, 'you' will lose a lot and waste your money in electricity and machines.

Setting up a Bitcoin exchange company, however, is a better alternative in term of risk. The only disadvantage as compared to what you asked is that the profit is not as big as mining due to that your friend need to attract new traders with low trading fees.

It is up to your friend. Do let us know what he have chosen to invest his 2 000 000 (USD?) in. :).

True or not, that is a serious amount of money to be put in mining. I do not think he should be consulting a member rank only about this serious stuff. what I know with rich people are, they do not need to know everything or do everything in their business. What they do is they hire experts to do things for them. That is how they get rich. And if what he is telling is true, then I think that person has already hired an expert in bitcoin to do a feasible study for him.

spend the 2 million on something fun. once it's gone you'll have some cool memories. if the 2 million goes on mining you'll end up with a pile of useless machines when you figure out you can't compete with guys who live in warehouses next to dams in china.

You get a sense that the OP might not be really asking because he wants to know because of the fact that he, or his friend, has access to 2 million and doesn't know straight away what to do... It's very easy, catch a flight to China, buy land somewhere where the electric rates are a cent, build a small warehouse, hire someone to do the electrical install, buy used miners and off you go :D

You have to take into consideration the electricity costs and the expected gains given your hashrate power... is that simple. Then, have good faith in Bitcoin continuing going up in price which it will, and you'll be making profits.

A friend of my i introduced BTCbitcoin to in 2014 now want to invest $2,000,000 into bitcoin mining and his is asking me is bitcoin mining is still profitable?

I have drafted out my own list but i want advice from you all

This are some question he still asked me..

How much can he make from mining?
and what are the list of equipment we need to buy with the $2,000,000 for us to start mining?

What will be the monthly revenue?
What will be the yearly revenue?
Cost of maintenance?

TOTAL COST OF ELECTRICITY MONTHLY FOR ANY COMPANY OR INDUSTRY IN MY COUNTRY IS $4000
(electricity is cheap here)

Land (Space) have been bought by him

I don’t know about the mining part.  You could easily invest $2,000,000 in hardware, run off solar power and stay nice and cool, even make a dollar or two and then find the equipment to become outdated six months later.
It not cost so much $200.000! :) Not more than $62.000 example ETH/XMR optimized hardware (Including solar system + cooling)

In fact, pushing that much power to the network might be part of the reason the difficulty rises and makes that equipment useless.

Buying $2,000,000 worth of Bitcoins would be another idea...

The value of Bitcoin has gone up every year since its release

Comes without the work as well  ::)

To be honest i would guess that starting from scratch would be a waste of money and you would soon see your 2 million dissapper,  if i was your friend and really wanted to invest in mining i would invest it in a mining company who have already done the leg work.  ;)

With 2.000.000 dollars I guess you can open and start up any business you want.

A good idea if you are real is to buy 1.000.000 dollars worth of bitcoins, secure them in cold storage in a very safe place and with another 1.000.000 you can start easily a casino which in the long run will be much more profitable than any bitcoin mining you do.

You can sell the bitcoins after a few years when price for surely would have gonne up.

That is good for you to invest that much money in to Bitcoin, I am sure that you are going to be able to double that money if the future if you buy now.
The only thing is that you are going to have to wait for a long time.

Yeah I feel like unless you have connections to some of the already established big name Chinese mining companies,
you could make more money in other areas with 2 million.
Buying a large amount of Bitcoin and operating a casino type site is a good idea, just be prepared to pay a ton to have your code reviewed and make sure its secure.
You don't want to lose your coins because of some vulnerability like one of the exchanges supposedly did.
I would also invest a bit in some alt-coins like Etherium and Monero. If one of those coins takes off, you could stand to make a ton of money.

2M seems to be a large amount to invest in bitcoins. I think even too high since bitcoin is also risk. Sure there is hope, potential and reward but suppose something don't work out for the good you can lose a lot of money. So think twice before doing this.

As a small time investment researcher, I would have to say do not do it!  I am not saying this because it is not profitable, for it is, I say this because once you dump $2 Mil into the project, you will need to dump more in to keep up with the times.  The advancement of Bitcoin and coding is so rapid that $2 Mil will not put a dent into it.  If you are really serious and all, please PM me and I have a few designers who are looking for funding to support their projects.  The projects have not been made public yet for fear of someone stepping in and taking the idea and fast tracking it.  I am only a researcher in this field, but you may make a buck or two on this.

That's a lot of money, too much to invest in 1 single asset if you ask me. Try to diversify and choose 50% of your online investment for bitcoin, while the rest goes in the promising alts.
That the current strategy I am following and i like it.

I have to say that that is a good idea right now.  If you think about it, Bitcoin is about the age of a 6 week old baby.  By time 6 weeks is hitting more and more people know there is a new baby around, whether or not they see you walk in with a car seat or you tell people.  Bitcoin is so small right now that only 10% of the population know anything about it.  Walk down the street and ask 100 people what bitcoin is and I bet, you get well than 10 of them who know anything about it.  If you have your money into 10 to 20 different promising bitcoin investments, you will be able to ride that wave to retirement once it pops!!

You could always just give it away to the small people!!!  Seriously, I do not think it would be worth the investment.  i think you will need about 10 Million in order to make a difference when it comes to mining, unless you are in a country in which you pay next to nothing in electric fees.

2,000,00$ is huge investment and that kind of amount is not provably advisable to invest in any program like hyips, gambling,ICO's and any other scammy platform right there but if you are really a altcoin enthusiast well you could build up some exchanger business with that money and the only thing to do is to promote it frequently so it could join to the line up of trading spot of big whales, and that business is what for i've seen will go successfull for that huge amount and also make sure your exchanger business will be more updated for new alts coming in existince.

Thanks dear am very happy for the advice

Is this for real? So if you want to invest your 2 million dollars in bitcoin then I guess you can have some partnership with big bitcoin companies. Why not have a partnership with coinbase or blockchain.info or even xapo for sure they are going to have a good improvement if you are going to invest that for real. And you are secured already with your investment because they are already well known companies.
I do think that that is a bit much for you to invest in Bitcoin I think that you should start with less money to just try it out and get the feel and hang of it.
It would be not be a good idea to just spend 2 million on Bitcoin.

Let's all take a moment to imagine that OP's friend invested that $2,000,000 into Bitcoin when he introduced Bitcoin to him in 2014. He could've earned another million dollars or maybe more by now.

I guess Bitcoin mining is still profitable with that large amount of money if you're able to get the mining rigs for a cheap amount. I would suggest that you put your mining rigs in a country wherein it's always cold so keeping the temperature of the rigs wouldn't be another thing to spend your money with.

Nevertheless, how did your friend got his $2M? Why don't he just keep doing what he's already doing. You and your friend seems to have no idea about Bitcoin mining, after all.

But I think OP can distinguish monopoly money from real money. He is either trying to make up his post count, or speculating on how he would spend the money if he actually had it.

There are other alternatives.  There are many staking coins, very quick math shows a small $17,000 per year interest gain using simple monthly compound interest, which is not the same, but the coin should gain at least that much is the value holds.

Two millions is serious amount, instead of asking for free advice here, better pay someone for that. 1000 $ for good advice is nothing here, you risking much more then that, and your profit can be very big. So don`t be cheap ass, pay for advice, and look at that like on investment. Its better to find more people and pay them, and then decide what is good for you to do next. Investing in security is always a good idea, also why mining with 2 millions? There is also good money in online casinos, or other services, maybe you can think about buying a lot of coins, something put away in cold storage, and with other part invest in creating some profitable site.

A big nope for bitcoin mining setup. I am afraid you are too late to setup a mining farm from scratch. Not profitable with that less amount.
Just invest in something more real. just fund some good business startup which would have a better rate of return and faster break even.

It's not a big nope by default... if you can find profit then it's never too late. Im sure in china, a 2 million mining cave would be profitable, of course, in US or Europe, have fun trying to pay the electricity bills.

I don't know if it is a smart thing to invest that kind of sum of USD in mining in particular, Mining is decreasing in profitability overtime and with the increasing overall difficulty some hardware can lose plenty of value in short duration of time, including electricity costs etc.. most of those still making profit are big companies or getting free electricity or similar conditions IMO.

I do encourage investing sums into BTC, but not into mining 1)at this current time 2)by someone that is unskilled to BTC, I am surprised someone is making such investment at something they just known about, IMO it would be better to spend a fraction of that sum in buying BTC's and holding them.

Bitcoin is believed to get more and more widely accepted and this will cause a rise in demand. As for the supply, it is extremely hard to increase the supply that it is not practical for normal computer to do the mining. So that is why a lot of people believe that i n times to come, the bitcoin will rise and you can profit from it.

BTC Loading, what did you decide? Did you get into the mining situation?

It's an easy business to run but a difficult one to turn a profit on. The key is building enough scale to earn a profit and having the time to wait to realize that profit. All of that takes significant investment - cash, equipment, time. Try to minimize any investment element you can. Minimize electricity costs by setting up your operation in a cold climate, etc.

There are several calculators to help you estimate your ROI and time to reach that return.

I want to know what you decided, update us!

You havent listed cost of electricity per kw and is those cost are fixed cost for whatever you use than it may be profitable if you can run several new s9 miner with proper cooling facility. And also you should have good security for your mining device as well as backup generator and good high speed internet connection. I think with current difficulty and price of bitcoin buying and storing bitcoin for more than year could be profitable rather than risking in mining.

That's a really huge amount of money to invest on a single type of investment. If I had that amount, I would just buy in tranches rather than go all in one time big time. The price has not been really going up the past weeks and this might be a good time to buy some below the $600 levels.

It is just like they are going to make a mining farm that as facility of google like with a good cooling system. But the electricity is going to be his opponent even though he has a big capital for it. Still he needs to think about the cost and profit that he is going to get because if he is not going to do that possible of losing that money is going to be fast.

$2,000,000 is a big money, you should careful before investing big amount. my suggestion is you can investing for only $500,000-$1,000,000 because we are not know what will happen in future.

with that $500,000-$1,000,000 you can buy hardware s9 like about 5 hardware-10 hardware, and you can build farm mining with using new PC like about 3-5 PC with each motherboard with support 4-6 vga cards to mining eth, and then if there is still money left over, you can buy bitcoin and hold it for half, and for the other half, you can use for trading.

i hope you can get success with your investment.

What will be the monthly revenue?
for 1 s9 a day = 0.285 BTC
monthly = 0.285 BTC x 30 = 8.55 btc
if you have 10 of s9 = 8.55 btc x 10 = 85.5 btc

What will be the yearly revenue?
for yearly = 85.5 btc x 12 = 1026 btc

1026 btc x $650 = $666,900 in one year

Cost of maintenance?
$4000 x 12 month = $48,000

that is just for s9, i am not understand how to calculate for mining etch, maybe its like the same as calculating for bitcoin. you can search in search engine and read more to know the calculate.

i only try to calculate with todays condition, i don't know what will happen in next one year, but with my calculate, you can make your ownself calculating and you can make your decision.

i am sorry if my calculating its wrong because i don't mining with any hardware, its too expensive for me, i only try to make sample for you and i hope you can do the calculation with yourself.

I am not an expert in mining but I seriously think that bitcoin mining is a business now and we should leave it for them who consider it so. Casual mining days are over.
Now, I think there is good scope for bitcoin business because there is a slow awareness of bitcoin in various corners of the world so any business which can facilitate bitcoin with our day to day transaction has a tremendous scope and early adoption is cherry on the top. I would advise you to think on various aspects of investment in bitcoin and not just mining.

Of course, you will be hard pressed to find too many coins that you can get that much invested in without screwing the market. It will take some thought, but mining is not the way to go I think.

Find other businesses, there are a lot of possibilities but calculate your risk and be careful

I have to ask, why are you choosing mining.  There is so much more to get into out there which could make you more money.  All you need to happen when you are mining is for the next big miner to come out and you just dumped $2,000,000 into old technology!  Just saying.

BTW, how does the BitCoin economy improve if no one is mining to keep the block chain transactions ticking over?

If no one else  is mining I'll keep it going on a RasPi with a 300MH/s USB device.  ;D

Difficulty drops so a few people solo mining on old hardware would keep it going. BTC does not adjust quickly however. So if 75% of network goes offline in a day blocks will be slow for a couple of weeks.

What will be the monthly revenue?
for 1 s9 a day = 0.285 BTC
monthly = 0.285 BTC x 30 = 8.55 btc
if you have 10 of s9 = 8.55 btc x 10 = 85.5 btc

What will be the yearly revenue?
for yearly = 85.5 btc x 12 = 1026 btc

1026 btc x $650 = $666,900 in one year

i am sorry if my calculating its wrong because i don't mining with any hardware, its too expensive for me, i only try to make sample for you and i hope you can do the calculation with yourself.

yep ur math is wrong.

you need to do a 2 week estimate. and then decrease it by 5%-10% to get the following 2 week estimate and repeat that 24 more times.. then add up the 26 fortnight estimates

You could kill the electricity costs with solar, but you will need a hefty facility and costs will likely be higher than gain.

Perhaps get behind an ICO or two.  You can drop the funds in btcpop and process loans all day long, there are things that can be done.

I have trouble believing that someone who's gained that much money would be asking random people who generally haven't for advice. That said, on the off chance this is the result of some windfall or something, my best advice would be to invest in your own bitcoin business/project, or in someone else's bitcoin business/project that you believe in.  I didn't bother reading other people's posts, but I'm sure any legitimate advice above would likely boil down to at least one of those two categories.

If you own $100M, investing $2M in bitcoin is a good investment.
If it is all you own, it is a dumb choice.

Well 2,000,000 million dollars is not a joke amount actually, if you are asking for what you are going to do with it, I think the best thing you can to it is , you need to invest it in the bitcoin mining company. Or you may ask in the bitcoin expert about your investment.

Deposit it now in your wallet and you will have way more by the next year. I have no idea what to suggest you except finding an expert. We may be good at ideas or advices but we're not experts and our idea may or may not be profitable for you. If you really have two million bucks, you should make a business out of it. With only $5k, you can create your own Bitcoin casino. Or what about a physical Bitcoin casino? Where we can go and authenticate with our wallets, deposit on some machines and play there. It would be the first one.

From 2014 bitcoin tripled it's price and in some good moments in 2016 it even costed five times more than in 2014. I think we can expect something similar in 2018. Cause bitcoin is showing good dynamic to rise.

IMO it's still too early for you to invest something like this or close to it in BTC specially since your friend is still new to bitcoin, mining is not as profitable as it used to be and is relatively tricky to get any interest out of it in the current time, maybe spending 10k or so in buying BTC but nothing more than that IMO.

If i had a capital like that i would have been planning to do some business in practical world than bringing it to internet world, it is not because i don't believe bitcoin but because i feel it can be better for me to start a real life business if i have an amount that can make it possible for me to start any kind of a business around.

The investment is not recommended. At least not this much amount. However, if you have a lot more money and it is just a fraction of your welth, then you can certainly do that but if it is all you have, then please refrain yourself from buying bitcoin with the total amount.

Because bitcoin price is very dynamic and it can go to any direction any time. Also to get a good return, you have to wait for another 5-7 years. If you are thinking of quick income, then invest in some regulated mutual fund or equity market with professional guidance.

Indeed the real world investing is something safer and more promising than have to make investments in a world full of uncertainty. However it is very likely succeeded at bitcoin, because I see the future of the bitcoin is very special. You could try business online store, or do the mining

2 Million of Dollars is huge amount... I like mining. but if I had 2 million $$. I would build my own crypto currency. this is my old dream to make my old crypto currency and get a good value for that.
I don't know you like this or not but I would suggest you to consider this thing also.
altcoin crypto currencies are doing huge business nowadays.

You got 2.000.000$ and you want to take advice from the bitcointalk forum members? You better go visit goldman sachs or M. Linch instead. They will make you richer than ever, forever.

that is infact a good advice,if you are planning to invest in the companies dealing with crypto currency it is a high risk factor ,you never know what will happen to the companies you invested, two million is a very huge amount to invest so it is better to take some financial advisors help before investing, that is my advice to you.

I suggest you look into investing in BTC ATMs. You make profit on Fees to use ATM. Users now have a place to Buy BTC or cash out some BTC to shop at nearby locations that don't yet take BTC.

If placed near international travel locations used can use it to convert to local currency with out having to carry cash across boarders.

I agree that it is better if you want to invest in bitcoin to, start a company, hired people and offer  services, accept bitcoin and use bitcoin as mode ofpayment for your employee, that way you invest in bitcoin  by converting  your money to bitcoin and get profit from those working employees that is paid in bitcoin.

Exactly that!
Or even if you wanna get deep in to crypto, turn them all to bitcoin and start trading! mining these days isnt that much profitable and at the end you will end up with a banch of old asic miners with no use or cost to resell them..
You gonna love trading trust me!

First of all, I really do not think that op has a friend with 2Million to invest.
This amount I would only invest into a mining farm if I am already a pro regardingof bitcoin.
Clearly op is not, otherwise he would not have to ask such basic questions with so few informations about the project.
If there really were 2 millions in the game I would strongly advise to invest it elsewhere, stock market maybe.

Mining is not a thing for beginners anymore IMO, the only ones making profit from it right now are huge businesses mining with a massive force and mining "farms", I don't think it's something for beginners anymore, Also investing this sum in something not well researched about is not a good investing strategy at all.

I do not think that what you are saying is true.  I do not know how did your friend acquire that $2M and he do not know how to invest it?  People who are rich do know how to make more money than all of us.  They are good in financial analysis and strategies.  If he have those huge amount of money he will not ask someone how to gain more through bitcoin.  I mean he will be using bitcoin to earn more but I think he will read more and search things connected to bitcoin by himself.  He knows exactly what to do and will not accept someone else's opinions since he had make or have that $2M.  He may go directly to companies who were into mining or investing.  And if he have $2M maybe he is more and far richer than those mining/investing sites around the net.

You are right, but have you also considered that maybe this person is yeah sure an established entrepreneur  but does not have an idea on a crypto currency industry. Well yeah who knows let them build this farming platform first then let them to be judged then

If we are talking about bitcoin in casinos that would be nice idea but if in real world it is not really worth to try. Also in Online selling or online shop that is also nice right now which is you have a both payment method on bitcoin and your own fiat. Just make it cool so that it will click
