Title: Xapo Scam?
Post by: AceFlash on September 20, 2016, 01:17:30 PM
Hello,

i have problems with Xapo since over 2 weeks.
First they wanted verification after i had 420$ on the Wallet. I send them all and they closed my Account.
After that i send them my Bitcoins adress that they send my money to this wallet.

THIS IS OVER 2 WEEKS AGO... They said max. 7 Days.

When i ask for a payout they always send me the same message.

Hi XXXXXX,

Thanks for giving us an external bitcoin address! We can certainly close your account and give you a refund. We process refunds every 7 days and that is when we will send your balance of 0.68
 BTC to XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Please note that your account will be closed and your Xapo wallet addresses will be blocked from now on. If you were using Xapo addresses to receive bitcoin, you will no longer be able to use these so please make sure that you do not send any more funds to any Xapo addresses - thank you!

Did you also have Problems with Xapo?

Why exactly you created account there? Were you baited by their no-fee transactions policy? Xapo is known for suspending user's accounts, blocking users and freezing founds.
Their ToS is pretty restrictive, so you  probably done something to violate it. Like sending/receiving coins from known casino's address or you refused to undergo verification etc.

They are not a scam but their poor security decisions certainly are among worst I've seen since PayPal.

Thats true, but i didn't do anything which is not allowed, also i didn't used Faucets or Casinos. They banned me without ground after i Send my documents :(

Support is not helping me and that is the Point. They dont want to payout my 400 hard worked bucks. Over 2 weeks and always the same copy & paste message. Also direct E-Mails to Supporter are without a Replay.

They blocked you even for 0.68 btc transaction this is just insane, why they are dealing with you like you are trying to move millions over your wallet. I don't use xapo much but lately have thought of getting their bitcoin debit card. From now on after seeing few of this types of problem over xapo platform and their support, i will never use them nor their bitcoin card. Hope they will send those bitcoin to your external address.

That's impossible, you can try to tell the truth as to the problem of freezing the funds will only be valid when you play casino or faucets.

Does it mean, I should not use Xapo wallet for gambling sites ? I am sorry I am not familiar with Xapo's regulations.
Bitcoin is for freedom, then why people go for this kind of typically rules enforcing services that too for saving bitcoins ?
Online wallets kill decentralization somewhat.

Of course you are using their service then you must comply with their rules. XAPO is a company compose of the usual team you can see in a company.

If you don't want the way then don't use web wallets. Simple as it is.

With the on-going phishing hacks, you sure you're actually chatting with the zapo officials and not imposters ? Do verify the sources.I doubt Xapo will pull any scams unless you have faked documents or verification.

I agree that such wallets like Xapo kills bitcoin freedom. I don't sure if we can cal them as wallet, because we don't have control of our bitcoins, we can only trust or not in service. But many users using Xapo to save money, because Xapo hsve free transactions. And it's simple and easy to use, this is the reason why people choosing online wallets.

They don't kill the freedom, logically your transactions are still anonymous and you get you spend them however you want to.It's just that you are not sure if you actually own the wallet.Keeping the transactions free is just to keep users hooked on to their service which one shouldn't.They get control over everyone's private key anyway.

But they asking to give identity documents if people sending or receiving bigger amounts of btc. So, it's not anonymous. And if we can't control our private keys, it's not freedom.

Expecting anonymity and freedom with a third party is highly insane.
To enjoy all the features of bitcoin system, we should never compromise from 'trustless'. Start trusting one, loose rights.

I am also using XAPO and never had such problems. I also use XAPO for gambling and faucets but didn't know there is a big chance they will block your account for that. Thought that only Coinbase would block your account when you gamble with your bitcoins. Will they block all people who use there account for gambling and faucet claiming and since when are they blocking for that reason?

Well thats why its always not preferred to use the exchangers wallet services, like Xapo and Coinbase. They can close your account anytime, even without real reasons, and freeze your bitcoins. Its always better to use the desktop wallet ot Blockchain wallet

I used Xapo before, i don't think it's scam, but its having many restrictions and limits and it close the accounts indeed if they think the user isnt following their rules. Better to avoid using the Xapo wallet

Thats why its better to read their TOS when using online wallets cos some of them are following legalities.

I dont think its appropriate to call them scam when in fact they are going to refund the OP

Well after reading this thread, i have cashout all of my bitcoin to blockchain again even though it's not a lot of bitcoin but i think  it's better if we used wallet where we can controll the private key , and the most important no one can't froze your money or your account.
For op i wish you will get your money back and your problem is solved. However i don't think that they will turned to scam, just hoping the best for you and for them.

If you still looking for an online wallet then I guess blockchain.info is way more better - I never heard about any kind of blocked or suspended blockchain.info's account.
You can also copy your private keys (in many ways) and store it (encrypted or not) online (dropbox), made paper wallet or export it to Multibit or Bitcoin Core.

Why I am not surprised to see Xapo blocking any account they like without giving even a single sound explanation? Because that's what XAPO does. I am sorry for you OP but the only choice I can give you is to move to desktop wallets such as electrum and Multibit.

If you use XAPO for convenience to use it wherever you are (not the same can be said for all desktop wallets) I suggest you use only the Mycellium wallet in Android or iOS phone.

That's the best you can do.
