Title: Best Multicurrency Wallet???
Post by: digital_sucrose on September 21, 2016, 12:21:37 PM
I am very new to Bitcoin but, have jump right into it ever since I decided it was something worth my time and attention as it is truly a great technology.

One way that I would like to use Bitcoin is in trading; BTC/LTC, BTC/USD, etc......

My question is.... what is the best multi currency wallet for trading? Are there wallets that I should avoid?

I'm not aware of any multicurrency wallet for desktop which allows you to handle your own private keys so there's probably only services wallets for that, which means you should avoid using any of them as your primary wallet because your coins will be unavailable if their site go down (or worse).
Just use a dedicated desktop wallet for storing big amounts and only store them in an online service if you have to.

Many traders are using exchanges as multi-crypto currency wallet. But it has proven as a wrong approach after many exchange hacks. Yes, it is not advisable to keep your crypto currencies in the exchange itself. Recently I hear one multi crypto currency online wallet, still I'm not recommending to save your cryptos online.

A better and safer approach must be having multiple desktop wallets to save all crypto currencies separately.

I am using altcoin exchanges as wallets for all altcoins, I only have unique wallet for Bitcoin and ETH, because I don't like to store altcoins, I store only Bitcoin and Ethereum, but sometimes I need to transfer between my balances using Lite or Doge or recieve a rewards in altcoins, thus I create altcoin wallets

I think https://holytransaction.com/ is well known name for multicurrency wallet however many like me always use exchangers as our altcoin wallet specially poloniex and bittrex. It is not safe to keep alts in exchangers but it is more easier than downloading wallet for every alts available.

Yeah agree that Poleniex is good to have as the multi currency wallet but I suggest you try for Yobit as well because In yobit, You save your Digital coins, You can exchange the coins you have at there with the different traders and You gamble also with your coins in yobit. Its most best multi currency wallet.

There are lots of exchange wallets that has a wallet for multi currency and it may vary depends on numbers of currencies available. Just take note that you don't hold your private keys here.

Anyways it's not wrong to use some of the exchange wallets to make trades but for coins storage purposes, all online wallets and exchanges are prone to being a fraud one even it already builds a name in bitcoin industry.

I thin best isn't the right term since all online wallets are not safe.

Poloniex, Bitfinex, Coinbase, Yobit etc. are some of the exchanges that has a wallet for multi currencies (BTC, USD, LTC, ETC etc.)

Just use it with caution as there are alreay numbers of famous exchanges that became a fraud in the past.

Don't listen to whatever these guys tell you about exchanges, especially after bitfinex got hacked. If you really want to trade though, send your bitcoins to the exchange, trade to your desired altcoins(and vice versa), and get your coins out asap. If you really want a multicurrency wallet though, I'd suggest either holytransaction or Bit.ac(this is bias talking here since I have their signature and avatar). It looks like holytransaction is shutting down though, here's the link to the thread Link (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1615676.0/).

Why don't you stock your bitcoin or altcoins in exchange website you using? it is the best you can save fee's for withdrawal and withdraw them all once i don't know if you can use multi curency wallet on your desktop much better if you use different wallet for your own security .

Since OP wants to trade, there is no need for a multi-sig wallet. You can trade alts online, convert to bitcoin and withdraw to your bitcoin desktop wallet.

I think the best way to store your altcoins is to have a different wallet for each one.

However you can take a look at coinomi.com. They have a few altcoins included (including eth, doge, nvc, feather) + btc

Also jaxx.io is a pretty good one.

Multi currencies include markets, i think you can try markets altcoins for be come wallets are like poloniex, yobit and other altcoins markets. Although there are big risk on there and if you can try it, you must be ready for lost the coins.

I also think coinomi could be good option and i have heard recently they have also added ETC in their supported currency. I also gonna try them from today, will test them with small amount for few weeks.

poloniex not wallet multi curency
poloniex only exchanger site not open service wallet same coinbase
yobit and poloniex not service open wallet service, but only exchanger

but addres can use save coin, but not flexible if your high transaction is fast maybe play gambling dice or more is not good if use addres exchanger

If OP needs multi currency wallet for trading, I can recoomend to use exchanges Yobit or Poloniex as a wallet. But don't keep to big amounts of coins in exchanges, because in past many exchange sites was hacked and all users funds was stolen.

Try Exodus its the Best wallet to get out of BTC into other Coins !

What makes you say that? Exodus isn't open source (http://support.exodus.io/knowledge_base/topics/is-exodus-open-source), for example.

To actually answer this thread, here are the multi-crypto offline wallets I've found so far (online wallets are basically any exchange, so that isn't an interesting question):

  • Coinomi (https://coinomi.com/) - "source-available" (https://github.com/Coinomi/coinomi.github.io/issues/5) Android app with support for a ton of alt coins. You can also run it on Linux/Mac/Windows desktops in Chrome via ARC Welder (https://developer.chrome.com/apps/getstarted_arc) - they helpfully provide the APK (https://coinomi.com/downloads/). Not very actively maintained (https://github.com/Coinomi/coinomi-android/releases). They seem legit (https://www.linkedin.com/search/results/people/?facetCurrentCompany=%5B%229324746%22%5D). Listed (https://github.com/bitcoin-dot-org/bitcoin.org/issues/1569) at https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet.
  • Jaxx.io (https://jaxx.io/) - "visible code" - good luck downloading all those old JavaScript files (they use "var" and prototypes, instead of modern ES2015) and building the app yourself. Not listed at https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet. Supports BTC/ETH/DASH/ETC/REP/LTC/ZEC/RSK but notably, not Monero. Multi-platform, with good reviews for the Chrome extension (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/jaxx-blockchain-wallet/ancbofgphhmhcchnaognahmjfajaecmo). Shapeshift integration and other features (https://decentral.zendesk.com/hc/en-us).

Surprisingly, there's no clear-cut winner: an actively maintained, clearly open sourced project with prominent contributors on GitHub.

Hi OP are you a trader? If you have an account in Poloniex or from Bittrex, you can actually use their web wallets to store your altcoins at the same time you grow your coins by trading it to other crypto currency.

Exodus is the best wallet for multi coins
Always have back up of your wallet and if possible store  your coins in offline wallets. No exchange or online wallet is safe
Soem exchanges are notorious for scamming , holding funds or even disabling the accounts with out any reason

Dead thread? I don't understand why...

Well, about me

I began to use rahakott recently. Impressions are not bad in general. It accepts 5 currencies: BTC, BCH, LTC, ZEC, DASH. The speed of work is not annoying. The commission is not high. It varies slightly depending on the currency and network load, but it's insensible. But the speed does not suffer. For me personally, this is more important. It does its wallet functions well. What do we usually want from the wallet? It's reliability, speed, cheapness first of all. Rahakott has it all.

Thing with coinomi is that ther WERE opnesource, until one point when some wallets started to use their servers (without asking) and copying their wallet and trying to fish other users so they decided to "close source" it. However begining code is still available, but they have some updates that are not opensourced. They have support for vast altcoins, not all of them ofc.

But so far having in mind other wallets that currently exist, I still believe coinomi is nice as I trust the devs with small funds I hold there.

Holytransaction promotes the convenience of storage methods, and converts, various altcoins in one place.

I use some Wallets but almost of them are described here. I want to share my opinion about rahakott. It works steadily, the registration is simple. The commission is 0.00055BTC on average. It changes in small limits, and the system itself determines the commission to ensure the highest possible speed. It's convenient. Anonymity is important for me. HD Wallet system registration provides this. In addition, there are links to enter through the tor. Although there are only 6 currencies, but these are those in which there are no vulnerabilities. This is insurance for reliability. Nowadays experts found more than 200 questionable currencies and tokens in the market. Trust, but check you must! The final flourish is free transfers within the network. If you work in a team, you can create and use sub-accounts. This is very promising by the way. It makes sense to think about it.
