Title: Are there security issues with Bitcoin for Free / Faucet-Services?
Post by: Octavian on March 31, 2013, 11:15:51 AM

When I use Armory with fresh addresses for each donation,

is it a security risk to have such a Bitcoin-Address submitted to some free 'Bitcoin Faucet' websites?

Is there some security issue which might arise when I use each address only a single time?

Hi WikileaksDude,
I just asked a question - why getting personal?
There might be some 'Free Bitcoins'-sites which track BTC addresses when they are reused for the transactions history.
And the sites have the corresponding user's IP-address also...
Have a good day.

I would be more worried about the sheer number of tracking cookies you'd get in the process…

While WikileaksDude is right in his answer, his attitude in responding is awful. Don't pay him any attention.

What the hell wikileaksdude - why would you be such a jerk about it?

The only security risk with free bitcoin services is that they'll remember your IP address and associate it with the millibitcoins that they give you.

If you're the conspiracy theory type, then here's one for you: a very good way for a Three Letter Agency to create a database that correlates bitcoin wallets to real people would be for them to run a free bitcoin service (along with whatever they're currently doing to correlate IP addresses with real people).
