Title: Can bitcoin-qt run, on Windows8 64bit Laptop
Post by: zarl on March 31, 2013, 06:31:17 PM
Hi

I am about to install a clean client on my new laptop.
But the client from  bitcoin.org is called "bitcoin-0.8.1-win32"
Seems like there is nothing for win64 bit ?
Did anybody try the "bitcoin-0.8.1-win32" on windows8 64bit ?
Or what alternative is best to use on win8 64bit

Thanks in advance

Working fine for me since install on the 25th of March on Windows 8 Pro 64 bit.

Also have mined on a BTC, LTC and FRC pool and received some funds at different times over the next few days.

The block chain is around 7gb so be sure to have enough space for it.

I have a small primary hard drive so use the -datadir= cmd in a shortcut (e.g bitcoin-qt.exe" -datadir=E:\Bitcoin )

Can then be anywhere you want then  :)

This program give me always corrupt message, after maybe 180,000 or sometimes bit more blocks download. Everything removed, or datadir on other drive, even win7 64 and win7 32, always same. I make 1 new windows install, same again. Only on other laptop with winxp it goes. Now I have other laptop for mining software for mini rig and avalon (have not yet any), must this laptop also have this bitcoin-qt program? Or better not?

Update:
Bitcoin-qt crashed 1 time, at about 50% dl of full blockchain.
Then i tryed compatible setting for Vista.. And all been ok since i did that.
Recived coins, and send coins 3 times with no problem :)

I am running a Windows 8 64 Bit laptop and no issues not entirely due to my own stupidity have occurred.

This program give me always corrupt message, snip

You would know all about corruption.

Butterfly Labs manufacturers and sells Bitcoin mining hardware. Bitcoin is a peer-to-peer payment system and digital currency. Bitcoins are created by "mining", a process where miners receive transaction fees and newly minted bitcoins in return for verifying and recording payments into a public ledger. By design, mining is a computationally intensive process which today requires ASIC-based hardware to be cost effective.

Consumers who ordered and paid for Butterfly Labs equipment, yet failed to receive it by promised dates, are not just out the amount of money paid to Butterfly Labs. Because the computational difficulty of Bitcoin mining increases over time, by the time consumers receive the equipment, if at all, often the equipment has become worthless because mining with the equipment has become economically unviable.

If you have paid for Buttery Labs equipment, yet failed to receive your order or failed to receive it by the promised time, please contact our office using the form below.

You should be able to run it on windows. But, I would recommend to upgrade to the latest one 0.9.1 so you are protected from the heart bleed bug.

Its mentioned on top of the forum with the Open SSL.

Why not just use the 64-bit version of Bitcoin Core?
Since you're using a 64-bit OS anyway :P

The question I had, which led me to this thread, was this:

Can the 64-bit Windows version use the blockchain data downloaded for the 32-bit version?

The answer is YES!  I think it would be obvious to anyone who understood the bitcoin software as well as I want to understand it, but I don't yet understand it that well :-(

The blockchain data is the same for any version. The 32-bit or 64-bit only affects the software.

Too bad you didn't read the thread creation date, and too bad it seems OP has already left bitcointalk since last Jul. :P

Have you tried to run it with "compatibility" set for 32bit OS?

Do not know if it is, what you want to do, mby you want to run it in 64bit.

But if it does not want to run, just set the compatibility, to test that everything else is running.

Hope this helps out a bit.

usually 32 bits work fine with 64 bits, maybe with need to install some libraries and stuff(but you are not in Linux, so not that big problem).

You could email the bitcoin-qt staff to make 64-bits version, if there is not already one made

If you guys even bothered to read through the entire thread (I'm being hypocritical because I didn't do that), you would have discovered that OP left BitcoinTalk a while ago :)
And since his post, a 64-bit version of Bitcoin Core has been made.
You guys living under a rock or something?
