Title: Carbon wallet ?
Post by: OmegaStarScream on September 25, 2016, 04:07:54 PM
Someone asked about it couple of days ago and I think he got scammed but I want to make sure and ask people who already tested this wallet before.
I googled a little bit about it and found some results (with pictures) but they are too old , Github repository didn't change since 2014 and the pictures of the website aren't the same .
I don't want to feed them SEO and clicks so I will post unclickable link carbonwallet.com just in case they are a real scam.

In addition to the above, this thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1625814.0 also offer bad review about their service, i think it should be avoided until proven otherwise.

Found this old article by guess..... Vitalik Buterin (founder of ETH foundation)
 https://bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/introducing-carbon-wallet-1367863785
It have published in around 2013 so showing this wallet is pretty old but haven't tried them so don't know how they works. Also i was unable to find any recent comment / review about this wallet, never heard of them before. Blockchain.info is enough for me as web wallet till now.

I found that article as well but If you look at the picture shown on the article and check how the website actually looks like now , you will see that they don't look the same , which makes me think that the actual carbon wallet went off and someone else bought the domain.

Or there is also chance that they may have upgraded their script as well as their frontend, but better to stay away and use blockchain.info or electrum like trusted wallets.

yeah they're updated the bootstrap to the newest one + major interface changes and also having better looks to be honest but if the site still in grey condition that's between trusted or untrusted better to stay away, because as you know wallet is the such a really important thing for bitcoin, not going to put my bitcoin and risking it

changing GUI still doesn't explain the fact the their Github repository didn't get updated since long time which sounds phishy for an open source wallet : https://github.com/carbonwallet

Dude,I can assure you the wallet is a scam just by opening the front page of the website.
Scroll down where they compared themselves to coinbase and blockchain.info.No service would ever degrade other reputed services on their front page to promote themselves or even mention their name if they're serious about the business.
