Title: Donator Status
Post by: tenk on September 27, 2016, 04:55:53 AM
Is the donator status still priced at 1BTC? If so, should that be lowered to the current price range of a Bitcoin? Or probably changed it to a USD value instead, to properly reflect a better price for donating.

What do you guys think?

Donator status is not at 1 btc. But 10 btc.

The following topic has been discussed over and over.

i am not going to pay 22,125$ to get VIP status
Don't see it as $22,125 but rather as 50BTC, now and then.

i would like to donate
You can donate any amount you want to if you feel the urge to donate something to the forum.

they need to update the price
Already discussed each 2 sites of this thread, several reasons speaking against it,
the main ones are 1) it would be unfair to all current donator/vip users and 2) the forum doesn't depend on donations anymore.

Yeah, its kinda strange that this has not been adjusted with the rise in bitcoin price.  As it is, the donation is not for someone like me who got BTC recently, but rather for people who were with it from the beginning.  I would donate something, but no way would I donate 10 btc (or 50!!!) at these prices.

So 50 BTC is ~ 12k usd, there are not many who can afford this, and even if I could I would donate it to something like doctors without borders.

I would however be happy to donate $5 usd or similar, but thousands to an internet forum is silly.  I suggest that either rates are adjusted, or new categories are added.

You can donate any amount you wish: https://bitcointalk.org/donate.html

The prices of ranks may seem silly now but won't be changed because it's unfair to the others who will have paid much more for their rank. I think theymos has mentioned the possibility of adding newer ranks in the future but it's not a priority or really needed.

Hope that clears all your doubts.......might as well lock the thread..

No, it was never priced at 1 BTC:

If you donate 10 BTC, you can get a special "Donator" title and a green "who's online" color.

If so, should that be lowered to the current price range of a Bitcoin? Or probably changed it to a USD value instead, to properly reflect a better price for donating.
This was already discussed several times and is likely not going to happen. You should use the search engine to find the past discussions about it.

What do you guys think?
I don't think that it should be lowered. 1 BTC = 1 BTC.

Does the admin even consider changing these prices? Lol. I don't even remember having 10BTC lol.

Why? Are you wanting to donate?

This has been done over & over again. The site doesn't need donations any more, this was at a time when theymos was collecting for new forum software.

10 bitcoin = Donator
50 bitcoin = VIP

Some of us missed the boat. Most of the donator's & VIP's did so when the price was a lot lower. Don't be too bothered though, they don't really get that many privelidges. Certainly none that are worth 10 or 50 bitcoin's at todays price.

If I'd donated 50 bitcoin's back then I'd probably be pissed off looking at what 50 bitcoin's is worth today ;D

OP, why donator status is so important for you? As othees says, it doesn't gives many privileges. And if you want to donate, you can donate smaller amount of bitcoin.

People looking to get Donator or VIP status are likely scammers, IMHO. In fact, you should trade very warily with anyone who has "Donator" or "VIP" next to their name already as they had a very high rate of being scammers from 2011-2013.
