Title: Laptop Mining Post by: NothinG on June 13, 2011, 02:01:52 PM So I've noticed that my laptop's power maxes out at 120w while mining.
Toshiba Qosmio 2x 4core i7 1.6Ghz (2.5Ghz OC) 4048MB RAM nVidia GeForce GTS 360M I get roughly 22-28Mhash/s (yea, I know it's not a lot...). Running some numbers[]: 28(mhash/s)/120(w) = 0.2333333333333333(mhash/s/w) 60($) for 900(w) = 0.0666666666666667(/$/w) 8($) for 120(w) [if my math's right] If you were to (lets say use deepbit) for mining with the PPS method: [deepbit.net] ( Difficulty: 567358 ) 12607.96054602647 shares to get 1 BTC @ 0.00007931496901107/share 1 share @ 22Mhash/s takes 2min:12sec [Test #1] [Test #1] 12607.96054602647 * 132 sec (2min:12sec) __________________ 1664250.792075494 sec (for 1 BTC) 27737.51320125823 min (for 1 BTC) 462.2918866876372 hrs (for 1 BTC) 19.26216194531822 days (for 1 BTC) After I did testing with my first share, I forgot that shares aren't stable. So, that's one of the test I ran. Okay so excuse my crappy math, but is running my laptop even worth the trouble? Title: Re: Laptop Mining Post by: NothinG on June 13, 2011, 02:15:22 PM Well, other than worrying about it overheating...I've made plans to drop by my local Chinese Computer Shop.
Thinking of either buying Mining Hardware; or build Liquid Cooling for my laptop. Hard choice, little money. I've only got enough for 1 small GFX card or the entire Liquid Cooling system I want to build. Title: Re: Laptop Mining Post by: danw635 on June 13, 2011, 02:34:55 PM Liquid cooling seems a bit extreme on a lappy to boost such a low hashrate. Youd be better off building a cheap mining rig that can handle the heat. Youd also get a much higher hashrate/$ with a desktop station.
Title: Re: Laptop Mining Post by: NothinG on June 13, 2011, 02:39:47 PM The liquid cooling would mainly be for show (~200$) and would keep my computer bellow 150*F-190*F(yeah, I do a lot of stuff ;P).
I don't think I've ever seen my laptop bellow 110*F. Title: Re: Laptop Mining Post by: phungus on June 13, 2011, 02:52:55 PM Within 3 days of having setup my Sapphire 5830, I'm getting just under 300Mh/s with a simple overclock using the Trixx utility, 990/300/1.163V. 5830's are the way to go if you can find one. But something is definitely better than nothing. :-) Just think, if you mine 1BTC and you actually hold on to it for awhile, maybe it will be worth quite a bit in the future. Just one. :-) lw Title: Re: Laptop Mining Post by: NothinG on June 13, 2011, 02:55:20 PM If bitcoin didn't have a cap (or maybe the cap could be like population control), then I would possibly look into investing in some stocks. ;D
