Title: Mining Mode tool? (cpu down, gpu mem clock down, gpu core clock up)
Post by: OggerMC on June 13, 2011, 04:33:45 PM
So i was wondering myself if this can be done.
I started mining a while ago and dont have a second rig yet for constant mining. My Goals are:

2 Modes:
Multimedia mode: Mining in the background and gaming / watching vids in the meantime.
Mining mode: gpu clocks at max (for me 1005) ,gpu mem clocks lowest (225) and CPU to forced idle mode (like this CCC option where you have 3 steps for cpu performance, 800, 2800 and 3200 for me there)

I want to have like a file on my desktop which i open to switch modes.

Any ideas how i can realize that?

I would love to see a tool like this for linux. A one-stop "mining mode" would be really handy.

I use MSI Afterburner profiles to do this, although it doesn't quite do what I want it's better than doing it manually.

This seems like it would be fairly easy to program, I'm just not sure how you program overclocking. Does anyone know how to do that, for example in C++?

i thought that maybe you can send those overclock orders to afterburner / trixx or any other oc tool.
I have no idea about programming.

You should use Sapphire Trixx or MSI Afterburner and create some profiles. For example, with my 5850 I set the clocks at 1000/300 for mining, the fan at 100% speed and I've C'n'Q activated. When I want to play I set the clocks at 765/1000 and the fan speed at Automatic. When mining the CPU frequency is set at 800MHz and when its required it grown to 3GHz

If you want to use the PC while it's mining you should set a lower % of GPU usage. On Phoenix miner, set AGGRESSION=8 or less. Don't know with other clients.

Do aggression settings make a client yield more or actually idle some of the time? Or is this dependent on the particular client? I'd like to mine at low heat/noise levels since I sleep in the same room.

Edit: also setting clock speeds under Linux is a nightmare, I haven't been able to configure power saving in combination with the open source driver and 4870 yet (/sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_method and */power_profile don't do squat, never mind exact clock/fan speeds).
