Title: Is there a list of currently operating Bitcoin mining firms?
Post by: pan1ns6r on October 05, 2016, 08:15:16 AM
I've been searching around but couldn't find a comprehensive list of all (or at least most) Bitcoin mining firms that are still operating.
Different categories would be the following:

  • Hardware Manufacturers
  • Hardware Retailers and/or Resellers
  • Remote Hosted Mining Services
  • Cloud Mining Services
  • Mining Pools
  • Solo mining companies
  • Hashing power marketplaces
  • ...

Yeah thanks I've seen that "article" too, good to get some names of pool operators but in the end a simple search about the current pool hashrate distribution would have yielded more up-to-date results  ;)

I was actually more hoping to find a list of (or a thread discussing) datacenters that offer cloud mining and/or remote hardware hosting. I've spent quite some time already looking around, but the vast majority of "companies" I could find have either already disappeared or are obvious scams.

I get it :) But as the bitcoin market coming up and down trough time it's no surprise that companies disappear:) Some are scam for sure but some are just broke :)

I would be very careful in choosing the right service provider, as far as I can tell from my personal research, the vast majority of cloud mining services are scams. It is very suspicious when you see promised payout ratios above a reasonable level (e.g. some providers list >1000% on the website you posted): keep in mind that mining is a very competitive industry and that if an offer sounds too good to be true, it most certainly is. If you still want to invest in a cloud mining company, please do your due diligence and research the providers you consider to join, this forum is a good place to start.

cloudminingmonitor is a good website for review many cloud mining, hashflare and genesis is a good choice if you want to try but my suggestion is better you buy big hashrate on that site if you want to make a good profit because if you only have small hashrate like under 500 ghs, you can not expect a good return in a day.

Ether is not a store of value. Buy bitcoin instead of mining them.

Why ether isn't a store of value? Bitcoin is the best criptocurrency and has the highest price?
I heard that the price of ether has fallen, can this happen again?

Bitcoin is intended to be used a currency.  Ether is intended to be used as a digital ledger for smart contracts.  Owning ether is owning part of the ledger network - similar effect but different basis.
