Title: A month of bearish altcoin market? Why?
Post by: Emperor of Man on October 05, 2016, 02:30:42 PM
Hi.

This topic is created to discuss the reason of this bearish market we have had for a month or so...   ???

Why the hell is this happening? Most (if not all) of altcoins have been bloody red during last few weeks. Many valuable coins have crashed to price levels lower than their believed support or bottom levels (NAUT, XEM, BTS, STRAT, ...). The strange thing is that nobody has a good explanation for this. The only half-acceptable justification someone mentioned, is that people are afraid that maybe BTC will go up more, which hasn't happened yet...

So, what do you think is happening to alt market?

I am wondering the same thing...And it's not just those smaller Alts that nobody has heard of, they are basically all affected including ETH and XMR  :-\

Meanwhile, BTC price has been flat past few days...

i would say two main factors:
1. bitcoin has a bull flag, big investors are getting out of altcoins to go long on btc(since 580~590usd).
2. a few projects have stolen market from other alts, for example,  yesterday almost every altcoin were bleeding because of REP...

because alts tend to go up or not fall when bitcoin price is up and to go down when btc price is stable or falling

Just goes to show how warped the poloniex scene is when people are asking why alts are going down.  There is nothing on this earth that doesn't go down.  There doesn't have to be a reason.  It's a natural cycle,  not that there's anything natural about the alt markets.

Patterns & Predictability all over the Altcoin scene..

This all operates in a rather simple fashion.

Hi.

Why the hell is this happening?

Hi.

Because every few months people realize that no one has delivered anything.

(1) BTC has not delivered mainstream users.

(2) ETH has not delivered any useful apps with a meaningful user base.

(3) XMR has not delivered any significant Dark Market volume.

(4) FCT has not delivered any revenue and insiders are selling.

(5) STEEM is down a full 90% with an abusive model based on 12th century Feudal System meets Hunger Games.

(6) NAV has delivered precisely zero anon.

(7) Another "reputable" Top 3 exchange is "hacked"... and then proceeds to openly swindle their Customers.

Etc, etc, so traders take their speculative profits... and wait for the next train...
Except the long-term losers in this Zero Sum Game = bagholders with "strong hands".

these periods of all red on the market happen all the time. if you follow the market for long term you see this especially when you open coinmarketcap.com

and in my opinion most of these reds are because of the pumps. what we see right now is the phase after the pump. take XMR for example it was pumped to 0.018+ and now it is slowly coming back down as everybody is cashing out.

Great discovery. So, people did not realize these things a month ago and the market was bullish, but since they suddenly started realizing them, it became bearish?

Therefore, we must add the "people's realization level" to a crypto's analysis criteria. Like:

- Don't buy that coin, analysis shows that people will realize it's shit in 10 days, 2 hours and 28 seconds.

- Buy that alt, people are unlikely to realize it's failures for 6 months.

Brilliant.  :)

Just one of those things, they'll turn green at some point.  Not a bad time to pick up your favorite coins for a cheap price right now.

Everyone was expecting their favorite coin to skyrocket, and now that none of them did, everyone is pulling out.
This will lead to some good opportunities if you can predict which coin will go back up.
Or maybe everyone will just stay in Bitcoin and the price will go up to $8000 as some have predicted LOL.

I found out that not every coin goes down when bitcoin goes up. Only the coins with weak hands which are quite a lot. So even though i don't know wht tis happening, I am sure to hold both btc and altcoin on a fifty fifty rate.

investors have more trust to bitcoin to grow every year than those altcoins. i myself wouldn't want to buy from ICO but would rather save my btc.

Won't be possible, because there is almost no supply on day1. So totally different than REP where total supply was there already ;)

All these crash happen because the altcoin market was overvalued one month ago.
Now the whales/insiders are cashing out for Christmas and there will be no huge pump for the next few months at least. I don't think this is the bottom for the altcoins. Newbies will sell later at cheaper price and the volume will keep dropping. It is time to hold bitcoin and wait for early next year before putting your money into altcoins.

So you think there's a monthly or quarterly pattern for altcoins? Would you please clarify the pattern a little bit more (what happens at which month)? I created a topic for that, but nobody mentioned anything of that sort:

yes that is a fact  that in alt section most of the coins remain inactive for most of the time and a few coins are used for trading but some time the inactive coins also get boost and become sky rocket, therefore there is always a chance of raising bitcoin price in no time.

Because as Tone Vays and others have repeatedly pointed out, bitcoin is the only blockchain.

Many fundamentalists and traders have wakened up to this fact.

That is the reason for the big dump in alts, all alts this month.

Moreover, the trend is likely to continue.

Anyone holding alts, even the super alts like eth, etc, xmr, fct, xcp, and clam have been declining.

Anyone followiing good trading strategies has continue to do well.

First Rule, not more than 20% of all crypto capital in alts, 80% always in btc.

Personally I have heavily spec long btc since the August decline (under $600) and started selling this week at 740 level.

80% of my profit is converted to btc and 20% into alts, but no eth or etc mainly xcp and clam.

I will continue this strategy on the way up if the uptrend continues.

This means I am selling btc high and buying alts low.

But always no more than 20% in alts.

Good trading to all, Ugly Old Goat

1.But bitcoin is trending at the moment . did you mean ETC
2.it is just a gas project from the beginning
3.what difference does it make if it has a significant Dark Market Volume
4.Steem is just a Ponzi model

That could be right. Most altcoins are dropping in the price. That is good time to accumulate some coins.
