Ok but to clarify the division of Judaism into two fundamental groups as I did is not my idea it comes from strains of thought within Judaism itself. I first heard of this division from a Rabbi who referred to it as the fundamental distinction between Jewish groups. Obviously there are many branches of Judaism but the case can be made that the biggest division (not the only) centers around torah observance (see links below).
