Title: Electrum.org down: what happened?
Post by: gamerfan on October 06, 2016, 04:40:30 PM
The official Electrum website (https://electrum.org/ (https://electrum.org/)) has been down for a while. I know there could be a maintenance or something like this... anyway, I just like to know if everything is ok or some attack is happening...

I checked the twitter page https://twitter.com/electrumwallet and It seems like there is nothing regarding this, I'm going to assume It has something with the host and not really an attack.
Electrum is open source and available on Github so I don't see why would someone take it down , If it comes back online just make sure to check the downloads signatures (you should do that even when It's not taken down just in case) before downloading or wait for an announcement from ThomasV.

Website seems to be up and running again. Also still doesn't appear to be an announcement on twitter regarding the downtime.

Before you run the wallet from the download page, follow OmegaStarScream advise and check the signature. Especially since they have released a new version of the wallet yesterday, this could potentially be the perfect time to distribute malware through the website by a potential attacker.

Yes, the web server crashed. From the logs, it looks like a disk issue. I moved it to another machine.
Sorry for the downtime. Note that the download server is separate and was not affected.
