Title: Bitcoin Crowdfunding Platform
Post by: bitcoinstarter on April 01, 2013, 03:44:19 PM
Hello Bitcoin project creators,

BitcoinStarter.com (http://www.bitcoinstarter.com) is now open and we are now open to accepting Bitcoin funding seeking projects.

BitcoinStarter features include:

  • Projects can range in interest from creative art and music to technology-related
  • Our platform has a sizeable group of Bitcoin pledgers who have signed up to help fund project owners
  • Any amount can be pledged starting from micro pledges (.00000001) to larger pledges
  • Projects are thoroughly vetted by BitcoinStarter before they are listed on the site
  • We also promote your project through our own advertising to help it reach its goal - we are as passionate as you are about your project
  • We utilize an “All or Nothing” format, if you do not reach your goal the Bitcoins will be returned to your pledger(s) account(s) automatically
  • The all in important Security function – Bitcoins are safely stored in an offline wallet
  • In the near future, we will have an opt-in feature for pledgers that will allow them to decide if they want the project owner to keep the pledged funds despite the project not reaching its goal

You can reach us by posting below or PM us here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;u=35711).

Please read over our FAQ (https://bitcoinstarter.com/faq) for any questions or go start your own project (https://bitcoinstarter.com/users/sign_up).

Our main BitcoinStarter support thread on Bitcointalk.org thread here  (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=163789.0) for any other questions you may have.

Looking forward to seeing what projects you can come with!  ;D

We are busy working on some new features stay tune!

We are self-funded and not sure about needing funding just yet. There are a few little projects we would like to work on but don't have the resources.

2 People at the moment.

I have just registered and I have a range of projects I would like to post up, I will do some videos once my cold has gone lol. I just wanted to point out that the site has no header tags (<h1>Important Keywords</h1>,<h2>Less Important Keywords</h2>, <h3>etc....), if you have not already you might want to look into SEO as that will help the site get indexed quicker.

Having a cold sucks get better. Oh we are perfectly aware and patching these sort of things up as we've just been looking into some SEO. Great suggestion!  Let me know if you have any question or need help getting your projects set up.

We have fixed the price swing problem with Bitcoins.

When you create a project, it saves the btc rate and then uses it to adjust the amount if the checkbox is set and btc rate changes.
e.g. if you project's target amount is 100 btc and project's btc_rate is 260 and checkbox is set... then according to the current rate the adjusted target should be around 236 btc.

Is there any way to list or avoid scammers from getting advantage of it?

If not, a black list might be useful, right?

Thank you!

We try our hardest to weed out anyone who seems of the unsavory type as we all know Bitcoin tends to lean toward these type of people. As project go along and they get funded we notice people interacting with the project creator because the people pledging our usually the project creators friends. This usually suggest they are above board. We do reach out and find out about each and every project as much as we can. I'm not sure how a black list would help! but sure. Great questions!

I would like a way to get the funds even if the project isn't entirely funded. Maybe after it reaches a 50% level or a given number of backers. If a project gets more than 10 backers, or half the money it hopes for, it should be able to go ahead.

Yes, what you are thinking of is flexible funding like Indiegogo.  I was thinking of adding a check box when the project creator is putting their project up allowing them the option.  The only downside would be nobody would have any incentive to see the project to full funding and take whatever they get. I suppose that is fine. Good suggestion.

One of the first thing I've noticed is the last of tutorial or step-by-step guides on the site for crowdfunding itself. When I ran my campaign with Indiegogo (http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/faerie-dark-the-city-with-no-animals-installation) I felt really excited because they have excellent tutorials that make you feel like you can succeed.

I think this might have an affect on how many projects get funded. Looking at the list of not-completed projects, many of them have not great descriptions or no perks or don't look like they've been expressed to the best of the ability of the campaigner.

Of course, people have to take initiative to educate themselves on crowdfunding and what will work, but the most projects we have funded the better so I would say that maybe a little hand-holding in this case wouldn't be a bad thing and request some crowdfunding tutorials or formatting tutorials be posted on the site so that folks have a step-by-step process they can follow to create great campaigns. Even if you just did some interviews with the successfully funded campaigns asking them for tips or what they did to make such an attractive crowdfunding campaign would add more content to the site, build more community around Bitcoinstarter itself and help others launch better campaigns.

Oh! & perk ideas! I was kind of stumped on this last night. On my IndieGoGo campaign, getting ideas for perks was pretty easy. I just browsed other campaigns. But I've been having some trouble thinking of what kind of perks would be intriguing to the Bitcoin community so some solid suggestions of things to offer other than a public "Thank You" which I've been seeing on the site would also help get people talking too. We all like goodies.

Edited to Add!: Donation Reward titles! On IndieGoGo you can name your different reward packages fancy titles that show up in bold below the donation amount (You can see it here: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/faerie-dark-the-city-with-no-animals-installation). Letting users input their own titles for the reward levels is a bit more layout-friendly and elegant than just listing the BTC amount. :)

Edited to Add #2!
: Reward limits! Is there a place to limit how many of a certain reward can be redeemed? For example, if I'm making a keychain a reward perk and I only have 10 of them, can I limit how many users can claim that reward?

Excellent idea!  a step-by-step guide is a great idea. Will put that on the list of things to-do for sure.

Yes, quality vs. quantity right now.  It would be nice to tighten up the quality of projects. The last batch of projects seem to be getting better. I do agree it takes the person really getting out there ( as if they were on Indiegogo or KS ) and showing passion for their project!

You are correct.  Some of things in motion to help this:

  • Newsletter: This is a e-mails sent to potential pledgers introducing them to projects
  • Q & A with Project Creators: This will be featured in the above newsletter but also on our Tumblr Blog and posted on
    reddit.

With your suggestions above I would propose each project creator gets a "packet" via e-mail with a step-by-step process of how things work and tips like you mentioned from successful project before them.  Like you said, this builds more of a community around the platform as a whole.

Couldn't agree more. I think since Bitcoin is such a niche some perks could involve like a reward of Bitcoin Stickers or trinkets of that sort.

Ah, I see what your saying like one of your tiers "Love & Ebooks!" . Good idea it's really eye catching and does provide a friendly and elegant listing.

This one's more of a question. ;) Once the campaign is over, how do I redeem awards? How do I ensure that the right folks are getting the promised prizes? One of them emailed me, but I have no idea who the other donor is.  :P Maybe there should be a list, with the option of the donor putting in an email or address if they're getting a physical prize as an award?

After its successful you'll receive a .csv file with pledge amounts and pledger emails. This way if you have a physical prize you can contact them to see if they want to collect it via a address.

I love this idea.

Have you talked to kickstarter or Indiegogo about doing a partnership and releasing projects on their sites and yours at the same time?  Maybe you could work together with them so that they could accept bitcoins by proxy through your site?  Partnerships could be pretty big to drive traffic.

At the moment I haven't talked to either KickStarter or Indiegogo about any type of partnership but you bring up a good point about bringing Bitcoin into-the-fold so to speak for either one of those. I'll reach out to each one and see what they say and report back. Good suggestion!

Totally just wrote up a positive remark. I hope this help bring more attention!

Would help Bitcoin and do a lot of good in the process.

Quote from: blog.tripyl.pro
Alright so you know I'm a proponent of Bitcoin. I love the potential it has to help us change the world and most of all bring us closer than any "social networking site" could ever bring us. This isn't crazy talk, this isn't a pipe dream sparked from a blunt of kush. No, this is something that makes trying to crowdfund with any other currency completely uninteresting.

Everyone should eventually know about Bitcoin because it's in its very nature is to stick around. It's taxless and it represents complete freedom from political agendas. The history of Bitcoin is a mystery and for good reason because other currencies with rich lively currencies are sometimes more dangerous to use than others because they have so many political leaps and bounds to maintain making a living.

Calling all bitcoiners in the UK .

Who thinks it would be a good idea to be able to top up pay as you go mobile phones with bitcoin.?

I have submitted this project to Bitcoinstarter for approoval and your feedback may help with their decision.
this is just a demo site to show how to obtain top up vouchers below face value for any network without having to be licenced by the monoplised distributors.

 https://www.cryptocredit.co.uk

funding would be used to build a new website/trading platform for mobile phone top up vouchers.
you will be able to obtain bitcoin for a top up voucher bought in any store for any uk network creating a virtual ATM.
you will be able to purchase top up voucher codes for any uk network using bitcoin an everyday product in demand by the unbanked.
All backers to recieve shares in the company and welcome to participate in its devlopment with ideas and sugestions for impoovement.

looking forward to any feedback  jason T  cryptocreditphones.com

I want to post here :)

I have a project on bitcoinstarter that I need to get funded to make it a success: https://bitcoinstarter.com/projects/439. As of now I received 0.0, but aside from that I'm very positive about Bitcoinstarter. The guy(s?) behind it is really friendly and helpful, we had a lot of contact on Twitter. It's also nice that there aren't any stupid requirements like living in the US (kickstarter) or having a Paypal business account (IndieGogo).

Now just lets hope bitcoinstarter can attract some more investors, the site badly needs it.

Thanks!  I know we are working hard to make the platform work. We do believe there shouldn't be requirements to be able to crowdfund any projects from anywhere in the world.  Hopefully we can round up some investments soon! ;)

Or we were thinking of doing a wikipedia type pledge/donation system since we are in crowdfunding!  to pay for the years worth of programming/costs with a detailed list of what we would do.  What are you thoughts on that idea?

Are there altcoin projects for funding new coins here?  There is not much innovation in this area and believe the volume has reached the highest it should be.

Duke, thanks for your question, I appreciate your perspective.

1) CCU like all coins are cooperatively owned so it is your coin too,
2) Yes, CCU is both a coin and a school; and yes a key component of the school is having the coin as resource to get the school started, and one of the benefits of the coin is having the built-in usage market
3) Although, we only receive CCU for tuition, you may initiate your payment with whatever publicly traded currency you wish, an immediate trade would be done to complete the transaction.  If a philanthropist wants to create a grant to pay for the education of 1000 students the initiating currency will be doge but it will finalize in CCU -- win, win, win.
4) CCU will educate its students about the major differences between CCs, a part of the 2000 level investment course is real life trading students will be exposed to the gamut of CCs, also diversification is vital to a sound investment portfolio.
5) free lifetime job placement assistance for graduates will give them opportunities to work for and with many different CCs.  Keep in mind some grads will create their own coin, some will take on leadership positions at existing coins, some will own exchanges, some will write legislation that covers all CCs in their county, some will organize CC convention,  etc ...
and
6) regardless of the reference coin, if it's relevant to the CC industry I assure you it will be incorporated somewhere in our teaching material.

Great, thanks for that, I will add it to my sig, then make sure to mention it at least 2x a day in various ways.

btw, if BCS is not already taken you should consider it to create a coin.   The coin will reach far more of your target audience than all of your current resources can combined.   With a reasonable premine you could have the finances to market in a way that places Bitcoinstarter in the top 10 of non-equity crowdfunding platforms.   In case you do it. let me know I want in at the very beginning.

[Edit] because I'm still in "newbie" state the forum only permits about 40 characters in the sig, but as you can see it is incorporated in the personal message as well as the sig.

We are a worker owned cooperative looking to crowd-fund our first 3D printer and bring the ability to decentralize the manufacturing industry up in Northern Ontario, Canada.

3D Printers that we are looking to acquire is completely open source and can even print itself. It is called the RepRap Pursa i3, we are hoping you can help get us the funding we need. In return we will be paying all our employees with BTC and accepting BTC as the primary form of payment for our work. All backers will receive several 3D printed objects as well as be part of our grand opening discount.

Why is 3D printing important in remote areas such as Northern Ontario?

It saves costs by not having to transport and import supplies from other countries and everything we make can be exactly as you want it to be.

We are also looking to work with non profits to help lower income and those in need get materials and everyday tools at a much lower cost then local hardware stores can ever offer, this can all be accomplished with the power of 3D printing.

If anyone wants to check out us out. https://bitcoinstarter.com/projects/795

Thank you again. We are looking for feedback and any support. Including possibly hiring new partners in our worker owned cooperative.

good post, I highlighted a word I think should be edited

Question: how much would it cost in materials only, if someone has the machine and wants to produce only chess pieces of standard size?

I will abandon the corrupt banking system and leave all fiat currency behind on the 1st of January in 2015, trying to survive only on bitcoins talking about it in every corner of the globe. I am planning to visit at least 75% of the states/nations that there are in the world (UNO counts 196 and Wiki says 209). Therefore it will be forbidden for me to exchange bitcoin into fiatcurrency by myself or a third party. I hope you understand that i will not travel to countries at war or the north or south pole. You might lose all your investments and i can't even promise that there will be any refund for what you fund. I will take videos and pictures on my journey for sure and would be willing to team up with a documentary team if you wish so, and constantly update my web page. I will enable a person to act as a killswitch if something happens to me so your Bitcoins will partially be refunded in case i die on my trip.

Thanks for pledging

See more at: https://bitcoinstarter.com/projects/947

p.s I will create a web page and i will buy a smartphone with bitcoins so you can track my activity and inform you about my trip

I have just created a new project and added to bitcoinstarter.

I think it is project number 1.000: https://bitcoinstarter.com/projects/1000 :)

The project now awaits moderation, hopefully it will happen soon, and then we can start fundraising. I have a question to the OP of this website: are you marketing this site somewhere, do you have traffic, are people coming to it and funds getting collected or no?

Thanks.

Looks like its up ?  ;D

They seem to get hit and misses I know traffic has been down lately , in other words they can't do all the marketing for you ...you have to put in some of the effort also!  ;)

Hmmm... yes, now the project is up and live: https://bitcoinstarter.com/projects/1000

I think that this is one of the best projects available on the site, and it can easily turn to be a great investment. So let's make this happen! :)

This is a really great site. I can't believe I've only found it now... needs more brand awareness since it encapsulates everything crypto stands for in my opinion.

Thanks. Obviously I agree. When I set out to create it made perfect sense to allow people to pledge any amount ( anon. or not ) to the projects that matter to them.  Ironically, our funding for the platform is strictly from successful projects , so need to figure out a way to do raise our own funds for the platform to bring more brand awareness to the Bitcoin community.  Thanks again!

Well, one way to get more exposure for your website would be to ask people who create projects on your website to add the link to that project in their signature (just like I have did now). This way, people would see all around this forum bitcoinstarter and the site would have more chance to get a lift off.

Another suggestion I might have (and of course I realize that this is subjective as it is my interest too, but I truly believe that it is a project that would catch more peoples eyes) would be to highlight my project on the index page. It is a project which would be of an interest to a lot more people on this forum, and in the bitcoin community as the survival gear and learning stuff (no offense, but really if you make the social profile of bitcoiners you'll see that most of them - as in almost the entire community - are interested of gambling, betting, and a lot less would invest in survival gears).

Great suggestions. So you are suggesting a way for people to be able to push their project up further on the main page ( say pay a small btc fee) to get highlighted more?  I see what you are saying.

Not exactly. I don't think that you can charge anything at this point if projects don't get exposure. You need to drive people to your website somehow, to raise awareness of the existence of it (I didn't knew until yesterday either about a bitcoin crowdfunding possibility either, and I am on this forum for quite a while already). So the signature will help.

Then, selecting a project which would be interesting for a larger part of the community on your index page would be good to catch the attention for your website and not just close it once somebody opened it. Survival gear and learning are LESS of an interest for bitcoin community as anything related to betting, so you should manually pick a SOLID case for the index for now.

After your site kicks off, of course you can charge extra to feature projects (they have to appear however a little bit differently).

Things have started rolling on bitcoinstarter.com.

My project, https://bitcoinstarter.com/projects/1000, collected already 5 BTC out of 50. 45 BTC more to go, for anyone who want to invest in this project and of course get the benefits of it.

Maybe now you start to really really consider replacing the project on the index page with mine, and start marketing the best you can this project. I am doing my part too, spreading word on the forum, I even opened a new thread for this one.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=768544.0

However, I am sure that you have already more channels established, FB, or other viral marketing solutions, etc. After all it's the interest of both of us! :)

I sent you a PM on this forum . Can you explain what you mean by replacing the project on the index page with mine ? I appreciate it!  And yes, usually if there is any interest in the project via pledges we ramp up our own marketing around the project greatly. So expect more shortly!

I have to admit I'm amused by the person doing the fund-my-porn-site bitcoinstarter.  I'll be curious to see if that one gets funded.

Also, that tunnel wars Bitcoinstarter is a really cool and rather clever idea.  I hope it gets funded.

Hello,

Agreed. The Tunnel wars one is a pretty slick idea. There has been one other person who got their fund my porn site basically funded. If you look in the "funded" tab you'll see it. SO they seem to be popular .

Yeah...I think this new poster may have shot herself in the foot by not offering rewards for something like this.  Porn's pretty popular, so throw in the awards like the other person did and I can imagine it'd be pretty easy to get funded.

I took a course on Coursera last year, about startup and the main project was to build a self crowd-funding site that accepts Bitcoin.
I think it's open-source and you can find it on git somewhere...

Yes, that is the student project and everyone was given an assignment to do a Bitcoin crowdfunding platform.
