Title: What to do if you're mining and have only a coinbase address?
Post by: paramind22 on October 12, 2016, 01:08:48 AM
What should you do if you're mining now and have only a coinbase address?  Is it a good idea to keep that as your only address?
Is it possible for someone to get an address the old way today?  How long would it take?

Is it a good idea to keep that as your only address? Absolutely not. Get a more secure bitcoin addy.

Is it possible for someone to get an address the old way today? What does that mean? Using bitcoin core? Yes. You can use pretty much any wallet you want.

How long would it take? 20 seconds.

Coinbase is pretty secure but not very private.

You need a pc to download bt core.

You can also get a wallet from block chain.info.

Both coinbase and blockchain.info are not fully controlled by you.

Btcore on your own pc is in your control but you need to understand how to back it up.

I think you should have multiple wallets and that if you choose to have btcore on a pc make sure you know how to back it up.

From what you've said, it seems like you don't understand how addresses are generated or used.
It's not a good idea to only use one address. It's also not a good idea to use Coinbase as a wallet.
Download a trusted wallet software. It's instant to generate new addresses.

Doesn't seem like all of them generate one instantly.   Trying to get one for Namecoin and it's syncing up without any apparent address in a menu, etc.
I have gotten various others from wallets, like LTC.

i think use vanity address (created offline mode via cmd ) is more safe than coinbase address, but if you have a good internet conection and free space, i recomended to instal BItcoin QT wallet, it's more secure.

If you are mining I suppose you have a certain amount of money. Having said that I assume you have a bit of other money staying with you too. Use this to buy a hardware wallet to keep your earnings from mining there. It is in my opinion the safest bet for you and the very best security for storing your bitcoins.

How long it would take ? Well depending on your country after you order it can take 5-15 days as a maximum (business days).

A few wallets are Trezor, Ledger, Keepkey. The cheapest is Ledger so you can google Ledger wallet to buy one for yourself.
