Title: wallet.dat appears to be corrupt - MAC OS 10.8.3
Post by: Shawnna on April 02, 2013, 02:17:22 AM
I'm trying to get my wallet.dat data back and everytime the rescan is almost complete, I get this error message.

I deleted everything and downloaded the dmg file again and them replaced the wallet from a backup and I'm still getting this message.

At this point, I want to use Blockchain and just want to figure out how to get my BTC out of this wallet.

Can anyone help me please?

Do you have any backup copies of your wallet.dat?   Any copy made within the last 100 transactions would have all the private keys necessary to recover all your funds.

What version of Bitcoin-qt?

With v0.8.1(&.0?) myself and others have experienced corruption issues with the BLOCKCHAIN database and has been reported here:

https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/issues/2435

So far I have not experienced corruption of wallet.dat nor do I know if these issues may be related, but until we have some firm answers and/or fixes I WOULD ADVICE ALL MAC USERS TO STICK WITH v0.7.2 of Bitcoin-qt.

Yes - I did make a backup - and one that is encrypted too.  And damned if I know what to do with it.

Can you help please?  Here's what the backup looks like in my Finder.

And I'm using the latest version of Bitcoin-Qt for Mac.

First, close the Bitcoin-Qt client.

Then rename (rather than delete) your current wallet.dat just in case .. or move it elsewhere, but don't overwrite your backups.

Then copy the BTCBackupEncrypted.dat and save it as wallet.dat in your Bitcoin data directory.

Launch Bitcoin-Qt.

Your funds should be there (presuming you've made less than 100 transactions since March 24th).

(I'm not sure with v0.8.1, you may need to run Bitcoin-Qt with -rescan if the balances are not accurate.)

Ok - I did exactly as you told me and this is the message I'm getting now:

Hmm ... I doubt your backup is corrupted too.  I'm not sure BDB wouldn't open it.  Maybe it is seeing the database/log files and trying to recover anyway?

The "start from a clean slate" approach is to remove everything from the Bitcoin data directory and then restore just the wallet.dat from the backup.
