Well, if you notice...you don't have any connections on your Bitcoin.exe

I personally wouldn't solo, but that's up to you.

How do I make it get connections?  It's just doing nothing.

In your settings (bitcoin.exe) there should be a setting about UPnP; make sure that's checked.

If you want to mine as a pool look at https://deepbit.net/ or http://www.btcguild.com/

Cheers, UNP setting fixed it!  I'm aware a mining pit yields consistent gains, I'm a bit of a gambler and don't mind mining for 1-2 months for nothing for the chance of a 50 BC bounty :)

That's probably the best game with some slower computers.
At my rate it would probably take me anywhere from 20-31 days to get 1 BTC. Might be safer just to solo it and gamble.

Very helpful topic :)

I, however, prefer a steadier income of BTC's. Is deepbit the best mining pool?

I did some testing with the current PPS (0.00007931496901107 per share) and at the current difficulty at an average rate of 2min and 30 seconds per share; it would take on average 20 days to get 1 BTC.
I did the same math and I got about half per share without using any donations @ BTCGuild.
