What is altcoin can you explain in steps ?

altcoin is alternative coins or alternative crypto currencies.

they are supposed to be alternative to bitcoin, and they must have some new features that are useful. they should try other areas and bring on new technologies to crypto currency world. and many more features.

but all of these are only what they are supposed to do.

in reality, what happens is that altcoin means a copy pasted code, or even in some cases a poorly coded code with lots and lots of bugs which is only created to get pump and dumped and make a certain group of people richer.

Altcoin are just alternative cryptocurrency  besides  to bitcoin, as other said   they are trully copying  the concept of   bitcoin but there are some alts  have some  development  or  other features  that bitcoin  dont have  but  still they cant really surpass bitcoin in  any way but still its  good to make  money with alts.

An altcoin is a slap in the face of Bitcoin.

I don't think so,they are meant to support Bitcoin,there is a saying imitation is the biggest compliment,only 2 or three coins has a threat to unseat Bitcoin but they are only a threat

but what happens is that anybody who has some knowledge of programming (sometimes even minimal knowledge of a programming language) goes through the source code of others and choose one of them and then he will change a couple of lines and comes up with a new name that is sometimes not even worth calling "coin"

Anyway,  Altcoin is a crypto related coin which has been started after bitcoin get succeeded. Its like sons of bitcoin. They always consider as a alternative coin and they project themselves as if they are better than bitcoin.

Any crypto coin besides Bitcoin.
Ethereum, Monero, Litecoin etc are the popular alt-coins,
then you have the hundreds of shitcoins that are mined, pumped and dumped on exchanges in some Ponzi schemes to defraud newbies of their Bitcoin.

yes i think other coins beside Bitcoins are know as alt coins, as they are the copies of bitcoin, or we can say that the concept of all other coins arise after bitcoin and therefore they are know as alt coins.

The coins except bitcoins, usualy they be made for some aim are like, fixing weakness of bitcoins or offering new innovation in digital coins. But mostly altcoins be made just for taking profit by the developers, there are not clear aim about the coins and there are not fungtion of coins.

I'm really interested what will happen with the alternative coin in the future. I'm not sure that altcoin has future, bitcoin is more real, it already costs a lot. But it's too hard to get bitcoin and this is a great problem.

In a simple explanations the word altcoin came into existence after bitcoin, litecoin and other early crypto have been created and the quest for people to further made their own coin and it means alternative coins.

Altcoin for me is a clone digital currency who copy paste the original digital currency which is Bitcoin. They will do the same procedure system like bitcoin but the difference only was the price value , and majority of them which is altcoin mostly got a low price only.

Altcoins are otherwise known as SHITCOINS, and for a very good reason.  Altcoins are mostly what people buy when they're trying to relive 2012 in the world of bitcoin--and it ain't gonna happen.  Altcoins are what idiots pump out to the suckers on bitcointalk, who usually have their mouths as wide open as they can get, waiting to swallow whatever comes.  But it's all garbage except for litecoin and the early ones.  Those get used.  The rest are just pure crap, and it's hard to argue otherwise.

An altcoin is a coin to where you should be careful with. It is so fragile that when you even have a just of it, it can vanish in just a manner of time :D
Just be wary of the things that will happen to that coin. I am not saying dont use it or dont invest in it. Just be careful.

Everything you said is true, but I disagree with the usefulness of Litecoin and early altcoins.
Litecoin might be original altcoin but it is still an altcoin and couple upgrades over bitcoin won't make it superior to the original.
Litecoin's usefulness is degrading over time, new aggressive alts like ETH and Ripple are taking its spot.

In my own understanding, Altcoin is an alternative digital currency of bitcoin or simply called bitcoin clone. I think it's been created because bitcoin is too expensive to buy it directly so most of the people are don't have a capacity to avail bitcoin. But because of altcoin many of the community had a chance to buy on cheap price which can be multiply by more than we invest it can be triple or quadruplet the value of the coins. which once its being sold it will directly send it to the bitcoin balance.

it is short for alternative coin. eth litecoin xaur pesobit etc is an example of it. anything that can be your reserve or your substitution to bitcoin.but sometimes it can be dump and it is sometimes be the reason to bancrupt so you need to search for a good alt coin, be wise man. bitcoin is a big money to be wasted for a loser coin

Altcoin base on we at I learned in this forum thread it is an alternative crypto currency, please excuse me for repeating the answers of other's here, as we all know bitcoin is the Father and the mother of all altcoins the original one. Meaning they are just like a back up replacement if ever bitcoin  will disappear, though in real its not gonna happen. :D
